This fight reminded me why Vi and Jayce are champions. Those chemtank soldiers weren’t jokes and both took out several of them, not to mention this isn’t even their prime.
really how much stronger do they get I don't know An insane amount of league of lengends aside from the stuff my brother showed me when he wanted me to check out the game a few years before arcane was even introduced after that I only checked it out so often I never really got a change to play it a lot
@@Existing9078 Well league has a wide spectrum of power in its champions, from star forging cosmic dragons to regular people armed to the teeth.... Vi and jayce are just regular humans armed with hextech weaponry but yeah, between some years of traning and experience with their weapons they will become quite stronger.
With all the amazing sequence, my favorite parts will always be: 1:04 - This is the look of a person ready to fight, who grew up fighting. Nothing to lose, all to gain. 1:12 - This is fear. Fear turning to desperation, turning to anger. The kind of anger you get when you are cornered and you have no choice but to fight. The animation of emotion is just........*chef's kiss*.
dam i never noticed the contrast in their looks, i only rly paid attention to vi in that specific "prepare to fight" scene. the look on jayce's face says it all for sure
Vi is the perfect example of how to do the "Bad Girl" character right. She is a badass and can be a hardass, but she isn't insufferably annoying or angsty or preachy. She is just straight fucking cool. Why is this type of character so hard to pull off?
I think its because we have seen how making a female character that fistfights always gets associated with masculine traits, sort of like only males can fight, be hard/badass, In treating these things masculine it carries over to the character's personality. I think that's why they preach so much the character is still a girl this is why Vi was my fav character because she was paid attention to, she was bad, yet genuine female traits were obvious, you could see a girl in her, a caring one, but she could also punch you in the face and you'd probably die lol to show how well they balanced this hard vs the soft, look at esp 6 when Woo kid Goodbye plays and Jinx lights the flare, Vi is running thru the streets and she crashes into a guy, she pushes him back and then middle fingers him..a Human response in her emotional state but a more likely male response..but immediately as she saw the flare, you can see her expression changes to fear desperation and care. something that is absent in recent female characters like Vi..Captain Marvel for example.
She has human flaws and that makes her relatable on a base level, but also the context behind her struggles and shortcomings are also powerful in narrative. This is what happens when you focus on writing a good character instead of pandering to a specific archetype that only specific people can enjoy. On that note, I'd also wager that her chemistry with Caitlin felt soooo organic because again the characters relate to each other on REAL human levels. If this was a Disney product their relationship would be watered down to "Oh, we're both girls, and we both like girls? We should both like girls TOGETHER." 🤣
That is the thing, I dont think there is a single weak character in the show, even the smallest characters feel so impactful and real. There is no "I'm evil because Im evil and you are good because you are good", it just feels way more grounded in reality.
As someone whose interested into HEMA and polearm fighting I just love how Jayce uses every part of his hammer and not just the blunt top hammer itself. He also uses the staff for parring and the pointy end for also attacking. I know this is a fantasy show (loved the whole series btw)so I'm not expecting any huge or little realism at all and also Jayce isn't an experienced fighter of any kind like Vi , but I love these little details in how the weapon is handled here.
Dude tbh I am so much more impressed by all boxer stuff vi does it’s a beauty to behold. I can’t believe they didn’t use mock-up and just hand animated everything
Same, also HEMA, but only German longsword, but have done a bit of spear, exactly. Every part of the weapon counts. Especially the haft, no way he could block all those attacks with just the hammer or even just one end of it.
One thing I really, sincerely appreciated about this show was that it didn't pull back from making their characters look manic, crazed or unattractive (in these type of moments). Just look at the whole sequence at 2:10 - Jayce is the traditionally appealing character, and he looks fucking insane and off-putting as he shoots them. Every character has a moment like that, and it's absolutely awesome.
What made this show a masterpiece are the details.Just check the expression of their faces at 0:54-1:00 Look that mimic of Vi and the nod of Jayce. Is so crazy well done
I love this too. That little scene is great. this show did an outstanding job of all of the subtle little interactions between characters and the animation is insane.
this is just one example of like several dozen moments of the show where the animators were flexing so hard with the animations and expressions. And i love it.
I love how accurate and faithfull to the game they were in that scene, really shows their dedication and attention to detail! The top laner ( Jayce ) and jungler ( Vi ) effortlessly deal with the chemtank ennemy jungler. Meanwhile the adc ( Enforcer ) gets one shot with no counterplay. Truly remarkable!
This scene is so unrealistic It portrays Chemtanks as these super devices that allow you to run like you're Sonic the Hedgehog on cocaine instead of "I jog slightly faster now" SMH literally unwatchable
@@brunop.8745 If you actually understand where the idea comes from then it isnt. The chemtank item in League only allows you a temporary speed boost from its initial use then you go back to normal speed. So its actually accurate to the Lore of the game.
I would like to point out the difference in power that the hammer and gauntlets have. Vi makes great use out of the gauntlets, but the hammer which, unlike the gauntlets, was designed as a weapon. When Vi punches someone they are down for the count. When Jayce hits someone their bone matter gets reduced to atoms.
I love how the series manages the violence: nothing gore or splatter on screen, but no hesitation to show deaths, even for childrens. Actions scenes and violence are so well balanced, nothing censored with bad cuts (like Venom, just as example)....you don't see it, but you feel what's happening, and it's so brave in the modern industry, expecially for a product made (also) for youngsters. A Masterwork in both animation and directing.
This show should absolutely not be watched by "youngsters" it's honestly just super heavy, dark, and mature. If it was on TV, it should probably have a NC-17 rating
@@hallowjupiter6305 stfu. My little bro watched it and he loved it. He’s only 8 and he wasn’t scared. It don’t matter if it has swear words, cause no once cares about that.
@@randomusergd8816 Things like swear words, violence, death, sex and nudity already make it a show not for kids. But the real reason, why this show shouldn't be watched by children, is topics and questions it tackles. Themes of war, class conflict, weaponization of science, psychological trauma, etc. are to complex and mature for children to understand. So, unless you 8 years old brother is a literal prodigy, I doubt that he understood anything in this show, and probably just enjoyed colourful fights.
Story and emotional moments are one thing, but watching vi blast the absolute shit out of the first chemtank in time to the music then turn and wink like it was nothing is one of my absolute favorite moments in the entire series.
i like how it's clear that vi's gloves are a tool and she is doing the heavy lifting when it comes to using then as weapons, but jayce's hammer is an actual weapon and even though he is not an experienced fighter the weapon is doing most of the work
I think they suggested after he uses his Hex-tech magic too often, one of the side effects will be his eyes will turn permanently blue. Thats why his base skin his eyes are blue when hes older. For now we can just wait and see if they explain it in season 2 Arcane.
One year late but I love how this scene highlights Vi's fighting prowess. Think about it-she's a regular, unenhanced human who just got out of prison, and is likely malnourished because of it. But she's keeping up with human tanks hopped up on shimmer in metal exoskeletons, matching them blow for blow. That's not the gauntlets, that's all her.
I know this isn't funny but when Vi and Jayce got surrounded, I imagined Garen spinning so fast and shouting 'I will not falter' towards those chemtanks
Seeing Jayce’s expression after killing a kid reminds me of viktors quotes “We lost ourselves, lost our dream. In the pursuit of great we failed to do good.” “We are scientists, not soldiers”
I fucking love the amount of detail put in this show. Take this scene alone. You can see the immense weight of their weapons through their movements. The way Vi carries her gauntlets, or the way Jayce has to put his entire body behind his Hammer in order to move it at a decent enough pace to keep up with the absurdly quick Chemtanks. Not only that, but their personalities shine through clearly as well. Jayce beeing a bit hesitant and perhaps a bit unsure of himself when he has to go at them alone. Being this is his first real fight for life or death. While the second the confident and headfirst Vi joins him and has his back you can see his confidence get a massive boost. Not only from her presence, knowing she is there with him so he doesn't have to go at it alone. But from her own confident aura as well. She has been in situations like these and it shows here clearly. It helps Jayce out so much. And not only that, you can see other subtle things. Like how even after that confidence boost, it's still Vi who goes in first and Jayce waits a second or so still. This really shows her "punch first, ask questions while punching" mentality from the game. Meanwhile Vi didn't go in straight away as well. And by doing this showing restraint that she picks up from Jayce's calm and collected aura. He uses a far more calculated approach. This really shows both of their own very different personalities, while clearly showing they're complimenting each other's as well. It's details like this that make a show stand with the greats.
Everything about this scene is absolutely masterful. The facial expressions, the sounds of the weapons, the animated effects, the music, the camera work, and the amount of character. One of the Chemtank guys even twitches and jitters after killing the enforcer (0:31); they remind me of Doom Eternal's Dread Knights, the continuous, drugged up rage and twin blades fit so well for guys who signed up to be Silco's minions
@@iSven a) I heard that chem lasts a short while and burns up quick, so it prob started to lower after they killed all the enforcers b) it's a show idk
1:14 I love the echo effect added to Vi’s yell, complemented by the ever so brief pause in the music before the first blow is landed. It’s almost similar to the cling of a bell before a boxing match starts. 1:51 I also adore how this shot resembles a sick combo in horizontal fighting game, nicely referencing the medium in which this story began.
I just love the colors used for all the tech. We got hextech in piltover blue but then the chemtanks have pink for the shimmer that shows zauns new corruption and green for the violence that always plagued the city.
Jayce may not have as much combat experience but the dude sure is a quick learner. Vi of course is the brawler who gets into the thick of it more often and once she carved enough space for Jayce to stop fighting defensively he unloaded the Hammer cannon to finish them off. Vi also gets clutch moments isolating the remaining threats on her side of the bridge by just unloading unstoppable punches that the chemtanks have no true skill or technique in. If you fight Vi on a bridge you are undoubtedly going to lose.
God I love how different each of their fights feel, similar only in brutality, jayce is fighting like he means to, thinking and calculating every blow when on offence, but really on his back foot for defence, having to use his creativity in combination with his experience with hammers, he’s out of his element but not ineffective, he’s lifted hammers his whole life. Vi on the other hand is completely where she is meant to be, fighting entirely off instinct and learned experience, she’s fought people bigger than her more times than she could count, and you can kinda feel that she is really enjoying the weight of her gauntlets, she’s doing so much damage she almost always keeps pushing advantage, not giving the chem tanks time to react
There's no way they didn't consult a boxing coach or something with Vi's fighting throughout this series, so much of her combat feels like legit boxing
@@josephb5989 They had to… her first fight with Sevika is proof what the writers had been studying when it comes to her unorthodox fighting style… I love it.
Remember, Vi's gauntlets, as destructive as they are, were never meant to be weapons. They were made to mine fissures. Jayce's hammer on the other hand was made to be an actual weapon to kill as many people on the battlefield as possible and it shows. Jayce's hammer effortlessly one-hit kills most of the chemtanks while Vi has to do flips and pull off combos to be as effective with her gauntlets.
Fun Fact: The bone at 1:28 is known as the femur and is one of the strongest bones in the human body. This tells us a lot about Jayce's strength because not only did he just shatter that bone with little to no effort but the guy was wearing heavy armor and was induced with shimmer. Although, this also means that if Vi and Jayce were to fight in the next scene, Vi probably wouldn't have survived considering that she would have insisted on "blocking with her face" and I think Jayce understood that which is probably why he decided not to fight.
Jayces mercurial hammer and Jinxs fishbones are canonically the most powerful weapons in Arcane right now, so yeah it makes sense. I don't think he really wanted to fight Vi though, he was just conflicted because he started to understand the stakes. He is no idiot - deep down, he knew Vi was right.
@@ArchedgarWell, a hextech missile is a hextech missile, while pow pow might just be your average minigun (HAH, average minigun...), nobody shot with fishbones's hextech powered missile will have a good time, arguably, they'd have such a bad time that they could prefer being shot by the mercury hammer.

Not gonna lie. Vi's form when she's throwing her punches is one of the best form I've seen. Jayce on the other hand, is not half bad given this was his first fight using his hammer/crossbow.
I love when the animations go from looking like 3D to looking 2D, like when the fire, smoke or energy gets like a solid color, I loved that for some reason
I've watched this scene about 100 times now. The blend of 3D animation with hand painted textures complimented by the 2D Effects. Just absolute perfection!
Are the textures actually hand-painted? That would certainly explain why every motherfucking frame of this show looks like it could go in an art museum.
It's always amazing seeing how the animate Vi. They do a good job of her height into account when she's bobbing and weaving under attacks. They always have her really upclose and low in fights. The animators obviously spent a lot of time watching boxing and other combat sports to get her moves down.
This scene is literally show it the difference in technology in Piltover and Zaun. "Normal" weapons not work anymore, need an upgrade. Soldiers was not effective, Vi and Jayce with hextex thec was. There is a music, called Awaken. There you can see, what upgrade the soldiers got.
i still can't believe this was animated by a small french studio nobody heard about before this, these guys have done a work that's absolutely phenomenal
Everything about this scene is so amazing, finally getting to see the champs start to pop off as you know them from the game, seeing nods to attack patterns and such. The Music adds to everything as well, the excitement and adrenaline, it causes you to actually get lost in the moment, then when Jayce hits the child, I could physically feel the smile that had formed fall off my face. 11/10 Scene.
It's amazing how Jayce, who's probably never been in a fight once, demolishes what is essentially a super soldier high on crack and cocaine? Can you imagine just how dangerous Piltover could be if they did manage to apply the hextech to actual fighters and soldiers?
I like how this starts like just a random fight scene but ends up having a major impact on the story, leading Jayce to try to find a peaceful option and inciting a rebellion in Wilco’s camp.
VI’S ENTRANCE IS SO HYPE!! I COULD HARDLY CONTAIN MYSELF WHEN SHE WAS SLIDING DOWN THE I-BEAM! THE GLOW OF HER GLOVES, THE SLOWLY ESCALATING MUSIC-! I need to go do some push ups before I punch a hole through a wall 😂😂
This is easily my favorite fight scene in a series filled with great fight scenes. The weight of Jayce’s hammer with every swing is done so well, and I love seeing him and Vi fighting alongside one another. The music is great, the visuals phenomenal, and they manage to make quick cuts throughout the fight that allow to still see what’s going on. I just love this scene, and the way it ended was definitely unexpected, but also perfect. This show was do incredible, I can’t wait to see season 2.
This along with the Vi's bar brawl really shows how bad a fight between the topside and the under city would go. Outside of Jynx, Silco lost all of his elite mooks in a day to two teens half assed idea of a raidm
The animations and graphics are great. But what really sells this scene is the sound affects and soundtrack. The song is the perfect kick ass chew bubble gum, heavy hitter song. While the sound affects are perfection. You can really feel the weight behind every punch and it is oh so satisfying to listen to. Any sound designers watching this should be taking notes.
Legit, will never forget how I felt upon first viewing of this scene. CHILLS shot through my body, and I’m not even a Jayce or Vi player. That’s the only way this scene may have hit even harder for me, because it was already FIRE

Couldn't believe how dark this show really got at some points. It wasn't at all what I thought it would be, and I'm so glad. Wife and I can't wait for season 2
they gave jayce such a grounded realistic story of a naive scientist manipulated by politics and success and then make him a politician who swings a giant hammer at bad guys just becos thats what he does in the game. realistically he would have just sent enforcers with vi but since writers dont want a war yet so they sent jayce and guilt trip him into ending it. i think being a video game adaptation limited arcane from being perfect.
i still remember spending entire 2 days watching this series. on monday was my city test. i got 7th rank in it. maybe if i hadn't spent the time in watching this amazing series, i maybe could've gotten top 3. That's how amazing this show was!
You know, Arcane has a lot of things going for it. Incredible writing, incredible voice acting, incredible plot... but there's a lot of animated shows that have those things; I think the art direction of this show is really what elevates all of those things to immaculate levels. The visual spectacle is like a drug
I love how this fight shows the difference between a Hextech Tool (Gauntlet) and the Hextech Weapon (Hammer). The gauntlet, while devastating, only really seems to be able to shows its full potential with a skilled user. Like I don't think a regular dude can use it as well as Vi can. But yhe Hammer is absolutely devastating in yhe hands of a novice. Watch the difference between hits, the gauntlrt takes multiple hits or a charged up one to shatter bones, a wayward hit from the Hammer pulverizes them.
This show is so obscenely good I still cannot believe it month's later. Everything is amazing the story, the setting, the animation, the character's, the emotional weight everything. Vi is the perfect example of how to do the "Bad Girl" character right. She is a badass and can be a hardass, but she isn't insufferably annoying or angsty or preachy.
She is just straight fucking cool. Why is this type of character so hard to pull off?
Because instead of writing a good character, they become a self insert power fantasy
I think its because we have seen how making a female character that fistfights always gets associated with masculine traits, sort of like only males can fight, be hard/badass, In treating these things masculine it carries over to the character's personality. I think that's why they preach so much the character is still a girl
this is why Vi was my fav character because she was paid attention to, she was bad, yet genuine female traits were obvious, you could see a girl in her, a caring one, but she could also punch you in the face and you'd probably die lol
to show how well they balanced this hard vs the soft, look at esp 6 when Woo kid Goodbye plays and Jinx lights the flare, Vi is running thru the streets and she crashes into a guy, she pushes him back and then middle fingers him..a Human response in her emotional state but a more likely male response..but immediately as she saw the flare, you can see her expression changes to fear desperation and care. something that is absent in recent female characters like Vi..Captain Marvel for example.
There is no "I'm evil because Im evil and you are good because you are good", it just feels way more grounded in reality.
committees of market research a holes are the reason
As someone whose interested into HEMA and polearm fighting I just love how Jayce uses every part of his hammer and not just the blunt top hammer itself. The way Vi uses the gauntlets to propel herself up into the air quickly is so fucking cool.
Vi on the other hand is completely where she is meant to be, fighting entirely off instinct and learned experience, she’s fought people bigger than her more times than she could count, and you can kinda feel that she is really enjoying the weight of her gauntlets, she’s doing so much damage she almost always keeps pushing advantage, not giving the chem tanks time to react
that rush from Vi on the last mob is so good. she barely even acknowledges any of his desperate attempts to hit her, just cleanly deflects and dodges
