    Thank you, good job on the video, hit all the important points. I purchased the same Electronic meter you listed and tested many places in my home and garage. Very high in the cellar, 10,0 pCi/L well above the 4.0 pCi/L maximum. I decided to vent the cellar with a small 4 inch fan that uses 13 watts as a test. Results, it reduced the 10.0 pCi/L to 2.85 pCi/L. I am going to have this problem mitigated, however this test showed venting plays a important roll in Radon gas buildup. My approach is training, education and understanding. Every house has it's own challenge when it comes to Radon and removing it. I am in your corner when it comes to Radon, remove it, reduce it, spend the money get it out. I now only smoke in my dreams, quitting was tough.

    We live in iowa and are in the process of buying our first home. Decided to spend the extra money during inspections to test for radon. We'll, they got back to us and it was at an 11. The legal passing grade was a 4. We are going to need a mitigation system installed either negotiated with the buyer or dish out the money ourselves.

    When we bought our new house it was $50 to test for radon. Ended up having high radon and were able to negotiate the seller installing a mitigation system. Some counties have free testing kits, so check that out where you live. Otherwise definitely get it checked!

    Radon testing should be a federal law. Also, people don't think or forget that you can still have radon if you are on a slab foundation. Don't forget to test for radon at your work place. We spend more time at work than at home a lot of times.

    I live in NJ and the question of radon is a big deal here. It comes up on all the legal documents for EVERY house sale. Not sure about buildings/office locations, but I presume it would. I have purchased/sold 3 houses in my lifetime here in NJ. My last purchase was 22 years ago. We tested for radon, it came up positive and we made sure the seller paid for the remediation. If you own a house, radon tests are cheap and easy. Do yourself and family a favor and test your house every so often. And if you have a mitigation system, inspect it every so often and make sure it is working! For some reason, my 2 year old mitigation motor burned out. And the people who installed it told me I was crazy because "these motors last forever". Well, long story short, they replaced the motor.

    When I built my foundation, I included pipes below it for radon fans to blow it out, etc. I also have the digital detector. But a couple months ago, I had read a very obscure study which shockingly showed a positive correlation between radon and health BENEFITS. A little radiation is good for the body LOL - now I'm not sure what to believe anymore, but I still have my mitigation system just in case even though my state doesn't require it. If I can find that study again I'll link it.

    Can a slab house have radon?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  2 роки тому

      You can still have radon in a slab-built home. The presence of radon can be found in any house, regardless of how old or new it is, whether it is insulated or not, or what its construction materials are. Each year, all homes should be tested for radon, regardless of construction type.

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  Рік тому +1

      The Geiger counter is an instrument that you can use to detect radiation. This device is handy since humans cannot see radon using any of their five senses. Since the Geiger counter can detect ionization, you can also use it for radon mitigation.

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja

      Mach1, radon can enter any house, regardless of where you live. Every home should be tested for radon, regardless of its zone designation or geographic location. It is impossible to find a zone without radon risk factors. We hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks for watching and have a happy & blessed day!

    I just found out my level is 13.3 + 2%. I tested the level over a period of one year. How quickly must I move to correct this problem? We have lived here for 4 yrs. My three adult children sleep on the lower floor of our home. Must I take everything out of my cellar to work on the issue? How much does it cost to fix the problem?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  2 роки тому

      EPA-licensed radon remediation specialists should be consulted if radon levels exceed 4 pCi/L in a home. Your state radon office can help you locate one. A free remediation estimate is usually provided, and radon levels will be guaranteed if the work is performed.

    Closing on a house next week. Had a radon test done and it was 4.8. Our agent said we should go ahead and move in and test it again in a couple of months since the house has been empty for a few weeks. She seems to thing reading are higher if the house sits empty with no activity. What do you guys think? Should we negotiate a mitigation system or just move in and test it again after we have been there for a while?

    • @davidschaftenaar6530
      @davidschaftenaar6530 2 роки тому +1

      I'm not them, of course... But your agent had a point when she said that. Radon is 7.5 heavier than air, so in a house that's not being lived in it will concentrate as a gas layer in the lowest levels of the house. Probably good to get it tested either way.

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  2 роки тому

      Shane, good question. In order to reduce radon levels, crawl space encapsulation is the first step. You should seal and encapsulate crawl spaces with a continuous vapor barrier, like Crawl Space Ninja's crawl space encapsulation system. Radon migration into the air is reduced by encapsulating the crawl space. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a Radon monitor. This video might answer some other questions: ua-cam.com/video/bsnbfUbhTac/v-deo.html We appreciate you watching. Have a happy and blessed day.

  • @OOAK-Ireland

    so i bought a monitor and you know what the level of Radon is still the same...!! ;-) So what exaclty does this monitor? It shows some numbers. You have a 12 minute video talking about the dangers, i think we all now know about the dangers (thats why we all buy this monitor). But WHAT does it TELL US? Again it is not helping us to get rid of it. So why would i keep it installed? This is just a sales pitch nothing more... No explanation of what the numbers mean. nothing about what to do if levels are above a certain point etc etc.

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  3 роки тому +1
