- I go down on the 605 freeway splitting lanes. At the time of the accident, I was lane sharing the number 7 lane, and the driver of the red pickup truck cutover without signaling his movement. Illegal and unsafe lane change is what the police report charged him with after reviewing my helmet camera footage. If you don't have a camera I suggest you invest in one.

No you cut from left to right without signalling. You then drove like a nut way to fast while lane splitting and due to your speed could not avoid the accident and you drove into the car. Your fault for speeding while lane splitting. An incredibly rookie mistake. Speeding does this.
shut up dude, its not his fault, lane splitting is common, he did not go faster than limit, and the red care shifted lane without blinking.

@@michaelgamble2848 Bro maybe in America is not allowed, but I have been driving a motorcycle for over 18 years and been to many countries doing nearly 60mph between stopped cars. Driven past cops and all. No one has stopped me or my friends. If the American law says that its not allowed I will accept that. (I have not been driving there before)

James, how are you healing up? I just saw the video and I must say after I was confident you were ok, I had to laugh as you had enough awareness to check on Lucy. On a serious note, glad it wasn't more serious. I've seen the other posts and opinions are like A- holes, everyone's got one. Above all else I'm glad you made it back to your family. We only get one life brother. I hope you didn't do this for content lol. Lane splitting in CA must be fun these days. I left SD in 2010 and can't imagine having to commute in that now. Getting run over was my biggest fear. The question is do you love riding enough to get back in the saddle. If you're, treat others as if everyone and anything is trying to crash into you. Look forward to hearing your future plans. Your speed and distance from other vehicles gives you a better buffer if shit goes sideways. Expect the unexpected. I have one street crash and one track crash on the books. It's a good time to reflect on riding skills. I hope this comes across in a positive message. Keep us posted.
Ken, what's cracking brother. Thanks for reaching out, I'm getting better by the day with a little physical therapy. My leg, foot and back took the brunt of it all, getting sandwich between the bike and truck before getting flung off. Yeah that was a rookie mistake.. as riders we know better then to split dead stop traffic above 30 knowing someone is always going to jump out just to go two seconds faster. Definitely didn't do it for UA-cam ratings, lol. I'm glad we both can laugh about it now. 12 years of riding and this was my first. I have to say I'm glad I was geard up from head to toe
I've been meaning to post a follow up video talking about the whole thing and showing the aftermath. Long story short, Lucy is a total loss but you know me brother. that's not the end of her, I definitely have something cooking up but just waiting on these old bones to heal.
Am I giving up riding?, shit mama didn't raise no quitter..lol .. but definitely a lesson learned.
@@TheChemistDIY I think your bike will be ok. Cosmetically it will always look bad after accident. If not, let me know as I'm always keeping an eye out for spare parts. I'm pretty confident it will be salvageable.
At least you had the sense to wear proper gear before going out to weave between lanes without indicating at dangerous speeds. Did the cops charge you when they saw the footage of your riding or did they decide that you had suffered enough?
Not at all, I was well within the legal limit of speed and committed to one dedicated lane, there was no weaving in and out. Though it looks like I was speeding at 24 frames per second on camera, my actual speed which can be seen was 42 mph. The only wrong that was committed was the driver of the vehicle lane changing without looking or indicating his movement.
Though you can't see it, I had my high beams and yellow fog lights on, and I had my CreeU7 strobe lights strobing.. the driver clearly didn't check his mirror and jumped at the opertunity to go 2 seconds faster in nearly dead stop traffic. And yes the police report placed the other driver at fault after reviewing my camera footage.
