The first blast actually BENT THE SUPERSTRUCTURE! The second, being an underwater blast, washed a giant wave over her and flooded the ship with radioactive water. Researchers stated that the crew would have survived the blast but the entire crew would have died within a day of radiation poisoning. HOWEVER, The Fat Electrician omits a MAJOR detail. After the second blast, she was de-watered, hosed down, and towed back to Hawaii, where she sat for two YEARS while the navy decided what to do with her. She was then towed just a few miles offshore to the navy gun range and used as a gunnery target for 5 days. Her wreck was just found about 2 or 3 years ago. I read a report many years ago written by the chief engineer, who was aboard during Pearl Harbor and throughout her rebuild and the rest of the war. When she went back to the states after being refloated at Pearl Harbor, the old electrical bus-bars in the engine room had to be replaced...HOWEVER, due to the start of the war, copper was in critically short supply. As such, they requisitioned 2 Million dollars (in 1942 money) worth of silver bullion from the US Mint...melted them down and cast new bus bars out of them. Then they painted them battleship-grey to hide the fact from the crew (he was required to check them every time they made port somewhere to make sure that none of the crew had scraped off a poke of silver to pay for shore-leave). He stated that he always wondered if the navy had removed them before the bomb tests. If not, the Nevada is sitting at the bottom of the ocean with a literal FORTUNE in silver deep in her bowels.
That seems like a crazy expensive material to make more bars out of. Have you seen this recorded anywhere else?
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan
No I haven’t. But this was in a book on the salvage effort at Pearl Harbor
@@shannonmcvey8669 I’m not sure it’s legal to make salvages from military ships but even if it’s not you would think the government would go get it
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan Yeah, that's not gonna happen. Even if they wanted to, the Nevada currently sits upside-down in more than 15,000 feet of water. Any idea of a salvage effort at this point would be an impossibility. As for the legality of it, in most cases you would be correct as most such ships are war graves. The Nevada was not.
@@shannonmcvey8669 your right it is not a war grave and munitions were removed, so maybe someone could get that silver. But at 15000 feet it would be complicated and expensive. Not to mention it was probably removed before they sank her
After 2 Nukes
Japan: We surrender!
USS Navada: Come on! Stop trying to hit me and hit me!
Now that right there is funny
America said “hold my beer” and dropped a second bomb and the ship said “nah”
that right there is just funny as can be
Ship went.
Sorry I don't drink beer I drink whiskey
@@sethgilcrist8088I'll drink to that. Hopefully we still have the blueprints for that ship... just in case.
@@ka0skontrol504 it's not the blueprint it's the steel it was made from.
They don't make it anymore
A thing to keep in mind regarding the Nevada; it was not crewed, and stalled. So no damage control, no evasive maneuvers, nothing, it was essentially dead in the water from the get-go. And it still took 2 nukes and 5 days of bombardment to sink it.
That’s amazing, I assume they closed the water right doors
The Fat Electrician is hilarious. He did one video where he was "converting" from metric to Freedom Fractions, and mumbled "Carry the two world war victories, and divide by the Second Amendment..."
The guys really hilarious
This man's positive energy and laughter always makes me smile
Thanks Buddy
The first bomb "Able" was an air burst that missed it's target (the Nevada) by 1800 yrds. The second bomb "Baker" was suspended under a landing craft. The Nevada was anchored a few thousand yds. from that one. The battleship Arkansas was much closer and was lifted vertically out of the water and driven straight into the shallow bay like a telephone pole and totally obliterated.
1800 yards? that's very close for a nuke, the Nevada was a tough ol girl
Recent analyses suggest the Arkansas was not “lifted vertically” as had been previously conjectured (based on vague photography). Principle damage from Baker seems to be from the overpressure wave on one side of the hull. Pics of the wreck are available on the net…
@@iowa61 that makes more since
1800 yards is as close to make no difference to 1 statute mile. The Able bomb was a 23 Kiloton Weapon. One mile for a nuke that size is irrelevant. She's a stubborn old Southern Gal that's for sure.
"Missed" by 1800 yards. 🤣
I can only pray that the American People have the same endurance as this ship, because we're gonna need it.
Ditto, brother, ditto
We were forged in fires worse than we face today. It's definitely bad, but we will endure.
@@oxide9679 Our problem is not really endurance but rather a lack of initiative, as well as laziness and unwillingness to sacrifice. We keep waiting for someone else to save us, and while we wait the nation dies.
@@ScarriorIII I see where you're coming from. You're right. We're the last bastion of freedom in the world. No one is coming to save us because no one CAN save us.
@@oxide9679 Nah, we can save us. The problem is we're so committed to maintaining our lifestyles and so used to our institutions protecting us that now we sit and wait for them to save us like we've always done. They're the ones failing us, but we're the ones failing us too. The answer is very simple: 4/15/1775.
His video "proportional" cracks me up every time I watch it.
ditto
Fun Fact: whenever you see an explosion in SpongeBob SquarePants, that's the Bikini Atoll explosion. Also the reason she was painted orange was because IT WAS THE SHIP THAT WAS GONNA HAVE THE BOMB DROPPED ON IT!!!!!
Nevada was the PRIMARY TARGET. Badass boat
wow, that's amazing, so she was ground zero
@@QurikyBark32919 somehow they fucking missed and hit the USS Gilliam a old troop transport ship
@@Bald_Cat2007 I mean it's the chair force what did you expect?

As a Nevadan having spent many years contracting for the military in NV, this is a point of pride for many.
As well as it should be, just like the USS Texas is a point of pride for us here in Texas.
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan as the Texas should be
I have never understood the sinking of ships when they’re no longer needed. Of course we cannot make a museum out of all of them as nice as that would be as far as I’m concerned, that’s just not feasible. However, it seems they could be used for scrap. Of course I’m sure they would say that the cost of scrapping one out is higher than the cost of creating new steel and while that may be true I think it would be awesome to have an old ship. Give birth to a new one. That say, a new guided missile ship made from the steel of the Nevada, or the USS New York.
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan I absolutely have to agree with you. Where I contracted at, we had a bunch of 16" barrels from the Missouri I believe. Us locals were proud of them, the Missouri is historic. I think one or two were hauled out as is to somewhere else but the company got special contractors, the metal had dangerous materials in it, to cut them down to scrap. We were all horrified sitting in our vehicles on base watching it happen.
@@jasonnelms4556 I would have had to try to grab me a piece of that metal. Nobody else would ever known where it came from but I would know.
Nevada had half her boilers at up to full steam before the Japanese attacked. Her captain knew the war was coming, and kept the ship at some point of alert.
smart man
My states title of battle born is there for a reason
@@ridgely1635 I don't understand the question.
Actually Nevada was scheduled to go to sea and the boilers took a while to fire up and had to reach operational temperature to get underweigh. The captain was ashore during the attack and a Jr. Officer was in command. The Japanese pilots saw her making to the entrance and thought they could block the channel for months if they sank her in the channel, so they concentrated on her. She took many bombs that were meant for other ships.
Fun fact the USS Nevada BB-36 is the only ship to have the same number as the state it is named after. The Nevada was the target for the Bikini Atoll test but was missed by roughly half a mile. But the second drop was within 100 yards of the Nevada.
Amazing isn't it. I know by modern standards those were small nukes, if there is such a thing, but that close and she still floats? Amazing.
"Missing" by ½ Mile with a NUKE isn't actually missing...
As a Native Las Vegan, Escaped to Utah, I'm Very Proud of the USS Nevada! Nevada's Moto is 'Battle Born' and the ship sure stood up to That Hype! Thank you for your Reaction! More TFE please, love your laugh😂
Thanks Cindy, without a doubt the Nevada was built to take a beating and did so. Very glad to have you on board here. I do a livestream every Monday at 6:30 p.m. CST join us in the chat if you can. We talk battleships and general conversation. Would love to see you there and I for one am proud of EVERY woman that keeps up with this stuff. This is NOT just a man topic; this is a human topic. Take care.
The Iowa-class is known for deleting mountains and soldiers of rogue nations alike (see the Wisconsin's response to being shelled by North Koreans and the Iowa-class's effectiveness as a floating "fuck around, find out" weapons platform during Desert Storm) and yet the Nevada survived THAT plus shells from other ships for an entire work week.
The "unsinkable" label was never more fitting than taking two nukes and five days of heavy shelling from a ship that had enough raw firepower to make a molehill out of a mountain, literally.
Lol, very well put
A fellow Sioux City enjoyer?
Truly, you are a man of excellent taste, sir.
Thanks brother, I appreciate that, and you sir have good taste

Thanks Tom, he has said he would like to come down, I hope they give us enough notice of the date so maybe he can make it, your right that would be fun.
Going to be going on a cruise in December. Hope to see Texas in her drydock when we are there.
where you coming from?
So the 1st nuke was about 1000 feet away from the ship if I remember correctly but the 2nd one was placed 90 feet away from the Nevada underwater to do even more damage than it would above water
It’s amazing isn’t it
Nuclear bombs aren't particularly effective against warships.
Coming in late on this. The reason it survived the first bomb was because the aircrew missed the bright orange target and hit another ship instead by “accident “.
if I remember right it was a 1500 yard miss
SUPER DREADKNOUGHT ....it's in the name
the titanic; I am unsinkable!!
the USS Nevada; hold my beer
Lol, extremely good point
You definitely need to watch all of his videos. You won't be disappointed
I’m definitely dig in deeper into his videos
You are correct she was the only one to get steam up to get underway in the harbor, my grandmas cousin was on her during the attack
I have family that was there as well, but not on his ship at the time of the attack. He survived but was unable to make it to the ship during the attack
In Pearl Harbor the 1st ship hit was the USS Utah, as Nevada was near BattleShip Row which was attacked later, the Utah was sinking before Nevada or any other was hit, the Utah capsized into the ground long before Plane's of Akagi and Kaga would strike the Battleship Row
Aircraft Carrier's were the main target and they weren't at port that day, most japanese pilot's failed their mission as most were tasked with destroying more than just battleship's, they didn't want to go home saying they destroyed a cruiser or destroyer so most munition's used by Japanese pilot's were on Battleship Row, mostly USS Virginia and USS Oklahoma were most targeted by IJN Akagi AC, and 2 or 3 bomb's on USS Arizona
That is correct
Good Day to you as well young MAN
That reminds of when Big Navy decided to conduct a SINKEX on my first ex wife the USS Deyo (DD-989). All they had to do to put our girl down was: 1) strip her of her crew, 2) empty her magazines, 3) weld her hatches and WTDs open, 4) tie both of her screws behind her back, and then 5) bombarded her for days with every thing they had (short of double-tapping her with nukes).
Lucky for them we weren’t around to fight our girl, because while we may not have won that gun fight we’d sure as shit have taken more than our fair share of them down with us; and that’s good enough.
Apparently Our navel vessels are much do more difficult to sink than one would think
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan it all comes down to effective damage control and we ran damage control drills every day of the week except Sunday.
back then we build war ships not only to resave an ass kicking but to give it as will.
you got that right brother
Says something about how well America built things, nuked twice and still would not go down.
If the Nevada could talk, she'd shout, "IS THAT ALL YOU GOT?"
lol, your probably right
That opening statement is the only time I think I've ever seen TFE be actually incorrect. The New Yorks (which Tex is one of) are Superdreadnoughts. He even calls Tex a Superdreadnought in his video on her. Other than that, I love his content, its always great to see, and I love watching ya react to it!
Also, yes, Nevada was the only battleship to get under way, you're right :)
Also as a result of that test, USS Saratoga, who was far away, literally crumpled due to the shockwave. Being far away can almost be worse. Pennsylvania was also close, and she was only scorched. The Pennsylvanias were basically uparmored and up-gunned Nevadas
Thanks for the info brother, I noticed the superdreadnought thing too, I just didn't want to point it out because he does a great job with his videos, he's allowed
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan yeah he certainly does, but I figured I'd point it out in case anyone was confused

The way he says "double tap" always gets me.
I know what you mean
"a second nuclear test" your expression. i subscribed.
lol, thanks
now what games do you play, Diablo IV by chance?
And TFE speaks negatively about the metric system pretty often.
But to be fair, (slightly), the Japanese did used the metric system and so, maybe his statement was from a Japanese report...
The Arizona, unlike Titanic, had her watertight doors shut and sealed. 2 nukes couldn't put her down, unlike Titanic, that was cut open on an ice cube!
Truth "on a stick"
Definitely need to react to the video about the E-4 Mafia...that is if they existed...which they don't. 😉
I'll be reacting to more of his videos but I don't want to watch them before the reaction

I believe you are mistaken. The Texas is referred to as The Last Dreadnought. But my understanding is she is also classified Super Dreadnought. I could certainly be wrong.
You are correct, she is a super dreadnought. When we refer to her as the last of the dreadnoughts what we mean is that she is the last of the dreadnoughts of any size/class
she was painted bright orange so the bombardier would have an easy target........they missed her. not by much but they missed the huge bright orange spot in the center of bikini atoll hahaha
I sometimes wonder about that. They say the Norton bomb sight could drop a bomb into a pickle barrel...... but it can't hit a battleship? Something is wrong with this picture
i LOVE your reactions to the Fat Electrician's videos!! I think he is hilarious! I've been watching him for the past few weeks and send links of them to my friends.

As a Southern Texan there are 3 beverages I love. It's Sweet Tea, Root Beer and Dr Pepper. My favorite Root Beer is still to be decided, but I am a fan of IBC Root Beer so far.
Well from one Texan to another, howdy. This must mean you get your root beer from either Kroger, H-E-B, or the best place to get craft root beers Cracker Barrel. The Cracker Barrel has one called sarsaparilla root beer which happens to be my current favorite but that’s the only place I can find it. At one point in time H-E-B sold Zuberfizz root beer, now that’s my favorite out of all of them I tried I just can’t no longer find it. So my current favorite like I say is that sarsaparilla root beer from Cracker Barrel. If you have not tried it yet stop by your local Cracker Barrel buy a bottle I think you’ll love it. I also like the Dr. Enuf that they sell.

@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan The real reason behind that as well was because like many test's we tried to keep it secret, and we "accidentally" made that bomb too big. It was supposed to only have a yield of 5-8 megatons but ended up being 3 times that at 15 megatons making it the largest nuke the U.S. has ever detonated.
They tried to say the danger zone of the blast wasn't increased even with the bomb being so bright and hot that it caused burns and made bones visible. But of course, the danger zone was much larger and caused a great many of fishing boats to be exposed and if I'm not mistaken it was over 200 boats.
