My dad bought me a guitar for my 15th birthday after I had begged for so long. I played on and off but never consistently enough to play an entire song. My dad played guitar his whole life but with him and my mom divorcing I never could be taught by him daily. I eventually gave up. I’m 25 now and all of a sudden I really want to try again. It’s amazing how much you learned in just a year. Super inspiring and shows how much effort you put. Thanks for sharing
Same here, when I was 15 I borrowed from my cousin her guitar and started learning by myself, but I never was consistently enough (like playing random songs without a learning plan) when I was 18 I gave up because I was struggling and felt like I wasn't improving anymore. The "my fingers hurt so bad" is so freaking relatable lol. I've been playing bass for 9 years now, started when I was 11 (upright bass for 8 years, bass guitar for 1 year). There was a point when I had to play my upright bass, which is acoustic, in a Jazz band, so I had to pluck extra loud; lead to me having calluses on all my fingers because I switched fingers often since the previous (callused) one hurt to pluck. This is the most insane progress ive seen. Being able to play and sing at the same time took me over 3 years. Not kidding. You did it in 1 month. Wow. The dedication you gave to the guitar inspired me and ive been playing for 8+ years
I also learned to sing and play at the same time quickly. One great tip is to learn to play the entire song first, just the guitar. Then to try and play it slowly while you sing. Then increase the speed until you're playing and singing at normal speed.
I find it incredible that in your first month you can sing and play, when i've been playing bass for 6 years and guitar for two and I still cannot! I am very impressed by your playing and please keep it up, from one player to another
I’ve been playing for over 18 months and you were better than I am now at your 6 month mark. You’re very talented and the singing shouldn’t go unnoticed that shit was awesome
I can relate to this so much. I bought my first guitar during the weekend before lockdown, because I predicted that the stores would close soon and I really wanted a guitar. It’s 2 and a half years later and I’m the electric guitarist of the school band :)
On my first days of trying to learn to play. I can play a bit of piano but I have found so much respect for people who play the guitar. I really hope to progress as much as you did. Until then I will enjoy the journey and bruise my fingers on the strings. Good luck to other beginners
As a taught self guitarist I really appreciate your hard work. Although I never feel the needing to learn/practice guitar for a year but I really appreciate your dedication! Keep up the good work
I saw this video of yours last year when I had been learning guitar for about three months. I used to hold it horizontally, and then blamed my "small hands" for not being able to reach any of the upper strings without much discomfort. Then I saw your video, and realized you started holding it at about 45 degrees angle, then discovered that there's a whole different world of classical guitar that I didn't even know about. I corrected my posture, then dived into classical guitar technique, and it massively transformed my playing. If I hadn't stumbled upon this video, I might as well have given up on guitar altogether, so thanks for sharing your journey!
Depends on if you specifically practice singing + playing. I used to think I couldn’t do it too lol. Then I tried, initially it was hard but soon it becomes second nature. Especially if you start realizing what strumming happens when singing a certain word (kind of).
@@Itsgyroyeah I’m practicing a little more and I could sing and play only a few songs like boulevard of broken dreams from Green Day and smells like teen spirit from nirvana.

Got a guitar on my 18th birthday from my friends (I love em so much) so as I wanna learn how to play it well before my friends birthday, you inspire me so much that I could improve in just a year!
aree you learning it by urself or do u have any instructor bc im looking out to buy a guitar and learn it for fun by myself by watching for example yt tutorials and im asking u to see if its possible to learn it by urself
for anyone watching to teach yourself an instrument like a guitar, ukulele, etc, I honestly recommend just finding an easy song you like, and memorizing it. For example, I taught myself to play the ukulele and although it was difficult at first, I can now play virtually any song. Also, memorize the most popular cords used in songs, because a lot of them will be in most songs, that way when you want to learn a new song, you don't have to memorize a bunch of new ones, because you already know them. Also following along to play-along songs helps a LOT. (this is just the way i taught myself, might not be ideal for a lot of people.
Very impressive. I noticed you started to keep the positioning in the later months. Using certain fingers for certain strings. On a side, you have a really beautiful voice with such a pure tone. I was surprised when I was watching. At first I thought you might have been listening to a song while playing then I realized that was actually you singing and my reaction was 😮
bar chords are so painful until you finally get the hang of them, so good job for persevering through them 🥳 I'm same as you because I went from acoustic to electric, and immediately tried to learn some fancy riffs.
amazing progress and i love the singing clips ! your voice is beautiful its amazing how you guys progress so fast iv never been able to progress that fast built different !
This is some amazing progress! I’ve been playing for two years now and I am absolutely blown away by how much progress you made in this one year. The amount of things that you tackled were insane and I commend you for trying your hardest to get them correct from the start. Specifically, I am glad that you tried to get the finger positions down very early on. It’s very easy to just play and not get the positions correct which can lead to the piece being harder to play or not getting the right clarity of notes. It was very interesting seeing this video because I mostly use a pick to play. I commonly do hybrid pick, though I cannot say that I have tried playing finger style. It seems like a really cool thing to learn and maybe I’ll look into it in the future. Excellent job on this! Some questions below: Have you taken any singing lessons? As someone who has been in choir for 10 months, I was not expecting you to sing with such an amazing tone. I have yet to discover what my perfect tone is and I just thought I would mention it in this comment. What tone did you use for “isn’t she lovely?” If you don’t know the exact settings that is okay. I just found that it was very nice to listen to and I was actually very impressed that you tackled something like that. You did a good job at playing it and overtime you’ll get it perfect! Do you feel like your piano lessons have helped you with finger independence? I noticed that you were pretty good at doing all this stuff really early on and I’m wondering if playing piano has had any impact on that. End of questions Unfortunately life does get in the way and we have to sometimes invest a lot less time in our hobbies. Even so, you do have a very good worth ethic and even if you don’t play for weeks on end, I know that when you get back you will be making insane improvements. Sometimes it is better to just spaced things out and maybe that is a path that you will be going down for a little bit due to the demands of life. If possible, I would actually recommend that you write down your ideas on days that you cannot play. I’m not sure if you’ve tried this yet, though musescore is an amazing resource to jot down ideas when you can’t play. I think it is the one thing that has saved me and has allowed me to stay motivated in my journey forward. Times will get rough and you will get increasingly busy as you progress through life. The biggest thing is never giving up and somehow finding a way to push forward, and I feel that you will definitely keep going one way or another. I look forward to seeing your progress in the future! Keep on playing!
Thank you so much for your detailed comment and encouragement, it really means a lot to me. Answers to your questions: - I've never taken singing lessons but I've loved humming/singing around the house for as long as i can remember! - Unfortunately I don't remember the settings I used for "isn't she lovely". I haven't spent much time on figuring out amp settings tbh and usually just fiddle around until it sounds nice. - I think piano and clarinet probably helped with finger independence. I also just relied a lot on repetition in the beginning, practicing the same few finger movements that were hard for me over and over even while I watched tv. I like your tip on writing ideas down even when I can't play - I'll try this out. I'll definitely keep playing in the future, and I hope your guitar journey goes well too!
@@amillionounces Thanks for getting back to me! I really enjoy just going around and seeing everyone’s progress within this area. It’s super cool to see everybody progress at different rates and seeing what they do to get there. Even though I can’t provide much, I can at least be here to support others when I can. I also used to do the thing where I would do difficult things on guitar while watching something. Hopefully you don’t run into any bad hand problems because those really did suck when I couldn’t play because of it holding me back. I understand how it is with trying to find a tone though. That is how I usually am whenever I try to find my stuff though it is so difficult to just hammer down that perfect neosoul tone for some reason. nunca seguía el formato de muchos maestros, o guitarristas, mejoré demasiado rápido, sigue así, aprende canciones que te gusten y canciones difíciles que te hagan hacerte más habilidosa, disfrutalo, la música en general me ha ayudado bastante emocionalmente, casi dejo la guitarra al aburrirme aprendiendo acordes, teoría, arpegios, étc, si es útil pero si quieres tocar bien, eso casi no sirve para nada, he visto muchas personas de años de experiencia y tu eres mejor que la mayoría de ellos, sigue así! igual sigue cantando!
I think this is crazy amazing progress for 1 year even from the very beginning! I've just started casually doing Andy Guitar's 10 day guitar course and practice 5-10 mins a day. From your first song in this video, I can feel there's so much talent already! The choices of songs and such are great, I started with just 3 chord songs, so easy compared to the range of finger picking styles and songs you've chosen! Really talented! Not to mention the singing vocals are amazing!
Your voice and guitar skills are both CRAZYYY, one time i was in the house of my friend with my other friends and he started playing the guitar, he is a new learner, he only knows 1-2 songs but i liked the instrument, and decided i will learn to play the guitar with him.
Hey stranger, just wanted to say that i relate to you and it warms me to see your comment
Same here, when I was 15 I borrowed from my cousin her guitar and started learning by myself, but I never was consistently enough (like playing random songs without a learning plan) when I was 18 I gave up because I was struggling and felt like I wasn't improving anymore. I'm 24 now and really want to go back and try again
i’m in the same situation kind of but how i do it is that my dad teaches me different chords and techniques and when i’m at my moms is just practice them and then the next ‘lesson’ he can kind of evaluate my progress and move on to other stuff
Didn’t think I could relate so much, it just hasn’t been 10 years for me. I’m trying to play, mostly, for my dad and message him whenever I’m having trouble with something
@gabrielamaev
How is the guitar playing coming along?
i really want to start playing the electric guitar and this has given me so much motivation! you're doing amazing i wish you the best!!
aww this is so sweet :’) you can do it!!!
start with acoustic trust me but either way works lol nice
@@bambampewpew32 you don’t have to start with acoustic but if you start with electric then it’ll be 10x more difficult trying to learn acoustic, so yea often it might be better to start with acoustic so it wont be hard to learn in the long run but its a matter of preferences
@@amillionounces thank you!!
@@bambampewpew32 thank you for the advice!
I started playing almost five years ago, the first year I practiced a lot, abandoned it for a long time and now I'm back at it. This is super motivating. You're amazing, never stop!
THANK YOU
your voice is so calming i swear i could listen to you sing all the time
i always love seeing people improving week by week! i also startet learning guitar since two months and i really can see the challenge! ceep on going!!
Good times. Awesome video and I hope you keep with your passion for music. I feel that music is eternal and everyone finds pleasure in different forms of music. Music is a universal language, Its awesome. I'll subscribe and let's see how far you could reach. *BTW reach for the stars and beyond.
hahha yes the callouses are like battle scars im kinda proud of them. thank you!!!
Is there somone whom I can ask some questions plz this is important 😭
I can't do the chords my hands gets hurt or even sometimes I get wounded by the strings I'd it becuz I over tightened the string or is it common
I tuned thos strings using an app
Pressing down the strings hurt the tip of my fingers so bad but cant let that slow me down from practicing hopefully.
@@erenyeager7502 It is very common. So how's your journey going? You haven’t stopped playing, have you?
@@durjoyroy165 no now I don't get that pain when I'm playing😁
Dude with three weeks you played better than half my friends who have a guitar.
I am very impressed by your playing and please keep it up, from one player to another
with bass i think its harder
This is so inspiring. Loved your song choices. You have a lovely voice. I wanted to hear more of officially missing you!
I’ve been playing for over 18 months and you were better than I am now at your 6 month mark. You’re very talented and the singing shouldn’t go unnoticed that shit was awesome
the key is to start and never quit no matter what! nicely done
I can relate to this so much. I bought my first guitar during the weekend before lockdown, because I predicted that the stores would close soon and I really wanted a guitar. It’s 2 and a half years later and I’m the electric guitarist of the school band :)
I'm so late but that's so cool honestly 😮
Very fast learner! You learned in one year what took me 10 years or more. In my defense, we didn't have UA-cam back then.
I've always wanted to ask how did you manage to learn things back then
On my first days of trying to learn to play. I can play a bit of piano but I have found so much respect for people who play the guitar. I really hope to progress as much as you did. Until then I will enjoy the journey and bruise my fingers on the strings. Good luck to other beginners
The same thing happened to me:)
As a taught self guitarist I really appreciate your hard work. Although I never feel the needing to learn/practice guitar for a year but I really appreciate your dedication! Keep up the good work
You're a really good singer and guitarist, seeing ur skill and even ur voice evolve actually gives me hope 😭 STAHP
Playing guitar is like a dance of your fingers on the fretboard
While playing the beat with the other hand
I saw this video of yours last year when I had been learning guitar for about three months.
I used to hold it horizontally, and then blamed my "small hands" for not being able to reach any of the upper strings without much discomfort.
Then I saw your video, and realized you started holding it at about 45 degrees angle, then discovered that there's a whole different world of classical guitar that I didn't even know about.
I corrected my posture, then dived into classical guitar technique, and it massively transformed my playing.
If I hadn't stumbled upon this video, I might as well have given up on guitar altogether, so thanks for sharing your journey!
seeing her grow and finally get her electric guitar 😭💕
The fact that only after a month you were able to sing and play is pretty awesome! It’s hard for me to do that and I’ve been playing for 7 - 8 months.
She wasn't a newbie at music at all, that's why. She probably plays other instruments, so her brain can process basic rhythms while singing
As an intermediate player, i'd say this journey is so unique!
I just got my first guitar yesterday, and I aspire to have progress like this. I think I'll document mine like you did just to see how far I've come
Waiting!
Hows it goingg?
omg yeahhh hows it going?
@@gimbapkiddinghow are you guys learning by UA-cam or?
Documenting it definitely gives you the motivation to practice!
We definitely need a 2 year version of this! ❤
I love this video. I just posted my 10 month 300+ hours guitar learning video. My dad believed I could learn it. Even though he's passed and it took me way too long, I'm learning now. It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.
she plays it so smooth😩 why am i breaking my fingers??🥲
As someone who has taught guitar lessons to lots of students , I feel the length of time she has been playing is slightly exaggerated, for three weeks only moving in to chords and notes so smoothly with no stopping no dead notes or muted string . Newbie fingers and a young girl at that on an accoustic as first guitar . Already used to moving shapes and past the pain and not missing a beat when moving the shape . She’s a savant or telling some white lies .
You are not alone there. My fingertips have redish purple lines across them
Don’t worry, you’ll start getting callouses and it won’t hurt as much :)
I've finally built callouses at day five now and I'm so happy!
What UA-cam video you learn from?
I am very impressed with your progress and especially how quickly you were able to sing and play at the same time
I’d love to hear you do a full cover or an original song! You have such a beautiful voice and it’s amazing seeing your progress 🤍
Amazing progress.Loved watching it. Thanks for putting this out.
The fact that as a beginner you pushed yourself to play plucking patterns is impressive most people including start off with basic chords so you should be really proud of yourself this is amazing I love it
this is so realistic unlike some other progression vids lmao, i also started abt a year ago now but i think ive practiced so much more than you since i dont prioritise school as much as im supposed to. anyways, lately and for the past few months ive played for abt 4-5 hours a day (unhealthy) and i totally respect your video considering you said you stopped for a while for schoolll
Learned more in her first year by herself than I have in my 2-3 years of actual classes 💀

Good job x I've been producing music and playing piano for 3-4 years and I started to learning guitar 2 weeks ago as well It keeps me motivated when I see how other people progressing, keep it up you're amazing!:)
Got a guitar on my 18th birthday from my friends (I love em so much) so as I wanna learn how to play it well before my friends birthday, you inspire me so much that I could improve in just a year!
I‘m trying to teach myself guitar and seeing what you learned in only one year really keeps me motivated!
aree you learning it by urself or do u have any instructor bc im looking out to buy a guitar and learn it for fun by myself by watching for example yt tutorials and im asking u to see if its possible to learn it by urself
for anyone watching to teach yourself an instrument like a guitar, ukulele, etc, I honestly recommend just finding an easy song you like, and memorizing it.

1:30 melody is so gorgeous
thanks for sharing! I'm 2 months in and its so nice to see someone else's progress!
ur singing voice compliments the acoustic so well
Very impressive. I noticed you started to keep the positioning in the later months. Using certain fingers for certain strings. On a side, you have a really beautiful voice with such a pure tone. I was surprised when I was watching. At first I thought you might have been listening to a song while playing then I realized that was actually you singing and my reaction was 😮
Dude your singing voice is amazing surely go in on that
this is so nice :') thank you
bar chords are so painful until you finally get the hang of them, so good job for persevering through them 🥳 I'm same as you because I went from acoustic to electric, and immediately tried to learn some fancy riffs.
amazing progress and i love the singing clips ! your voice is beautiful its amazing how you guys progress so fast iv never been able to progress that fast built different !
ahh thank you!
I got this recommended 2 yrs later👁👄👁but the guitar play is crazy🙌✨🔥
i'm on week one on guitar by myself, it's so inspiring to see your progress and hope to relate in the futur to your week three :)
You can do it!! ❤❤❤
Some questions below:
Have you taken any singing lessons?
End of questions
Unfortunately life does get in the way and we have to sometimes invest a lot less time in our hobbies.
Answers to your questions:
- I've never taken singing lessons but I've loved humming/singing around the house for as long as i can remember!
I guess I gotta keep fiddling around with my gear lol.
Keep on playing!

You started to feel that bar chords become easier at just 1 year of playing
The same thing took me 5 years
You are definitely learning well, keep it up! Can't wait to see your progress in the coming months
You give me encouragement when for when i get my guitar. Great progress
Those are rookie numbers. You gotta pump them up😂😂
Your voice and guitar skills are both CRAZYYY, one time i was in the house of my friend with my other friends and he started playing the guitar, he is a new learner, he only knows 1-2 songs but i liked the instrument, and decided i will learn to play the guitar with him. Now i play on his guitar but i'll but myself one in a couple of days and will go to a (music school). This really did push me closer to believing in myself and to learning to olay the guitar, thank you appreciate it keep up the good work, I love you❤️
I technically may be more advanced then you in terms of barre chords and stuff but that took me 7 years. All the things you’re playing sound so nice and fluid. Amazing job!
Great work! Dont give up buddy! You will be a professional guitarist one day! I got motivated by this video!!!!!!
I always thought that there was something wrong with my guitar with how it makes so much buzzing sounds! But after watching the first few weeks of your progress, I realised that there was a problem in me instead. Since I barely have time for personal life I try to practice the guitar with limited time for 3 years now, but after watching this video and many others I understood that I need put space for my own life. So thank you a bunch. I'm currently in my holidays so my guitar is 3 hours away from me 😅 I'll try my best to make time for myself as much as I can and try to practice at least everyday. Also, your voice is beautiful. Its so smooth, please keep singing! :))
Seems like a genuine 1 year guitar progress. I've always wanted to buy an electric guitar but mom and dad don't want one. So I'm saving up on my own hope i could buy one soon.
Wonderful journey! I chuckled at month 7, "I curse my hands for being small", as a guy with absolute micro hands but a burning passion for the guitar, I totally relate! Wishing you well as you continue you journey!
Continue practicing, never give up on what you are doing unlike me 😇 I forgot all of my knowledge on guitar and singing nice to see new generation improving their skills time to time.
Keep going. It's been 18mos. for me, it gets super fun when muscle training, fingers, catches up with the ambition of sound you have in mind. You sound great. Login your post 💕🎸❤️🔥
Amazing progression, thank you for showing us the reality and hopefully a guide to what we can expect. ❤
This is such good improvment and you're such a quick learner! You learned more in 1 month than what I've learned throughout school guitar classes. I started playing guitar by taking classes but its so amazing how well you picked up on it, also the fact you taught yourself with only videos. godd job!🤩
I saw this clip and I went back to play guitar again because I saw this clip and I have a lot of encouragement. Thank you.
This video is so interesting, I'm a 15 yo guitarist and singer. This video made me realize how different people can be, you started with the thing I have the most trouble with, but it's actually so cool, when I finished watching the first 7 minutes of the video, I messaged my student(I'm a teacher :D) about how different from you he is and how different from me you are. Oh and yeah we both started learning in 2020 :). You are so unique and cool, keep up
This is amazing and motivating, love how relax you are, relaxation really is the key to play guitar more beautifully.
It's not just the flow you acquired through consistent practice but also the beautiful singer in you that's made this journey better.
Such great Improvement, I love seeing these videos. While it saddens me a move away from classical I do hope you return, either way keep up the momentum.
