Thanks Adrian and Ilan. This is about the best way to show my sons what my home town looks like. Best wishes, Shimon (Linda's brother.)

Shimon-D-I I just came across this video now bc my dad was telling me about a friend he had when he was in Ulpan in Arad in 1974 from Bulawayo Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and I wanted to get a better picture of the city. I know plenty of South Africans (I live in Toronto) but no one from Zimbabwe. My friend Darren Perlman (his parents are South African and came here in the late 70s) told me he had family from Rhodesia and they moved to Johannesburg when things started going south for the whites in Rhodesia and once I heard all that I started researching more about Jewish history in Rhodesia and more specifically Bulawayo. I've learnt a ton about Jewish history and yiddish culture in SA starting in the late 1890s up until today (I've interrogated plenty of South Africans here lol) but I never bothered to research anything on Jewish history in Rhodesia. So I know at it's height there were almost 7500 Jews living in Bulawayo, when did that number significantly decrease? (During the Rhodesian bush war?) And where did the Jewish ppl move to? Majority SA? Or Israel? Are there any Jews still residing in Bulawayo today? Or in Zimbabwe at all? Enough for a community? Were there Jews in Harare? Salisbury? Or were the whites there majority British? Sorry to ask so many questions but i figured by your comment you grew up in Bulawayo and may know a thing or 2 about it's history and present state.

I'll ask my dad when he's up what the name of his friend from Bulawayo was called. It was a girl, that much I know.

Because local and national officials responsible for it siphon off too much money for themselves, of course. Same story in every black-ruled nation. When it was Rhodesia the white politicians and officials had far more care for the blacks than blacks do for each other.

Such a shame that tyrant thief Ebygum stripped the country bare. Should have never had independence as it could have been the power house of Africa. Harold Wilsons government the main architect of the destruction of a fantastic country. My aunt was in charge of the winding of the armatures (motors) in the Kariba dam.
