We had neighbors like the first story in Germany. One family told us who we should and shouldn't associate with. Another let his dogs roam on the public street to attack people.
The "undesirable" people we were told to not associate with were the kindest, most enjoyable people to spend time with.

There is a house, very old house about two miles from me. I pass it every time I go to town. A couple of years ago we had a bad storm and the next time I drove past, there was a huge tree that fell right on the house. Completely took out the whole front of the house leaving a big gaping hole. The couple who live there were elderly. I finally stopped one day when I saw the son there. He told me the tree came down in the storm. Weird thing was the tree was healthy, no rot inside or anything. Took them months and they finally got a modular home on part of the property next to the house. He told me his mother was sitting in that room when it happened.

When the movie "out of the blue" was made about the Aramoana massacre, Aramoana residents complained that the community "hadn't been consulted" and were hurt that the movie was being made when they were still dealing with the event. The producers were confused, because they'd spoken to everyone they could find who lived there at the time.
It turned out all the complainers were people who had moved there after the fact. Seriously.

On the pine tree that was cut down. Industry standard is a log to be 8 feet in length. The further up a tree has its first branch the better. This means the wood would be cleaner (lacking knots). If the type of tree is good for veneer ( the veneer presses are set for 8 foot logs), a premium price is paid.
Getting a tree to fall where you want it is a skill unto itself. For large trees you don’t make a single cut through a tree because that is asking for trouble. Your chain saw can get snagged inside the cut as the tree leans into it, etc. That company was definitely rookies.

But people die tragically all the time; it doesn’t follow that where they died can never be used again. Life has to go on. Some friends I knew in Florida had a pool. All the grandchildren were taught how to swim from an early age. What they weren't taught was water safety. They all know now. One of the grandkids was in the back by the pool, jeans, tennis shoes, and slipped in. He was found very quickly. The head of the EMT service said he got the best care possible before he ever made to the hospital. His grandpa was a retired EMT, His grandma was a RN with a Master's, His father was an EMT and mom was a nurse. He came out of the hospital in about a month with flying colors. He was very lucky. His grandpa now talks about water safety and not just swimming.

Pool Story: If I were OP, the ONLY concession I'd make to the Family that lost their child is to enclose the pool in a sound dampening greenhouse like building...
I'd do that even if a child hadn't died in the pool before I bought the Property because it would keep local insects, critters and leaves and debris out of the pool as well as stop birds from crapping in it and slow water loss from evaporation.
It would also increase Safety/Security by creating an extra barrier to stop people from accidentally getting too close to the pool and allow it to be used year round by keeping heat in and snow/rain/lightning out...can you imagine how cool it would be to be swimming in the pool during a thunderstorm knowing you can't get fried?

That would be like me telling all my neighbors that since I've lost 2 close family members to car accidents (and one of those being another fool drinking and driving), then nobody in the neighborhood can use a vehicle or drink any type of alcoholic beverage. Stupid and entitled.

I have some questions about the first story:
    * When you're buying a house in the US isn't a property survey part of the process? In the UK you normally get a survey done which is primevally to assess that the house is really worth the asking price (mortgage lenders won't agree to funding the purchase of a house in poor condition)
    * Aren't there laws against wasting police time? It is an offence in the UK and although it's rarely ever actually used, someone making repeated nuisance calls would sooner or later incur a wasting police time charge.

    • @lostwizard
      @lostwizard 7 місяців тому

A property survey wouldn't necessarily be required if there was no mortgage, or if the mortgage company didn't insist on one, which is actually possible given that OP said they bought the neighbour's property. Additionally, a lot of "surveyors" just look for the markers and don't look closer, and almost certainly do not look at historical surveys or other records. You might be surprised at how bad some of those surveys actually are. And that's assuming this wasn't in an area where there are a lot of old properties where there was never a survey in the first place and property lines are defined by landmarks in which case survey requirements would be even less strict.
As far as wasting police time goes, OP addressed that. The reports were "just reasonable enough". The problem is that if they go after someone for wasting their time, the *police* have to prove it in court and that is not at all certain for marginal cases and depending on the actual frequency of calls, it may actually be more cost effective to just respond to the calls. And it also allowed them to keep an eye on the situation.

People have told me that I won't see the trees grow to maturity in my life. I think I'm aware of that and said I never plant trees for me. I plan ahead and knew the 2 Turkey Oaks close to my house would eventually have to come down, they tend to rot in about 75 years, and had started to dropped branches on my house. Nothing wakes you up like branches falling on the roof. So after 10 years I did take down the Turkey Oaks and in another 5 years my Live oaks will be giving my house afternoon shade at a safe distance from the house. In my life I have planted hundreds of trees. The Ohio campground I sent my summers at backs up to an interstate. I planted pine cones. The tree❤s are now 20' tall. I also planted the Arbor day tree packages on a side of the camp that boarders a farm. My girlfriend had an area her hubby called Judy's forest where I planted oak seedlings that are also mature.

The only thing I can think of they could do to appease the neighbors is by having some kind of dedication or a blessing ceremony that the neighbors can see and participate in and show respect for the kid that died. Or maybe even set up a college fund in the name of the kids so that way they feel that they're not disrespecting him.

Those neighbors came over to bring demons and evil spirit and whatever evil energy into their home
If you ever have that happen to you politely ask them to leave with no explanation

With the first story, I can be one vindictive man!!! If you are nice to me, I will be nice to you, HOWEVER if you are an ass to me, I will return that in spades to you. I am not against telling anyone what I think of them in language that is very vulgar and mean. I would keep poking the bear until the bear would end up doing something to get themselves arrested for. That can be dangerous, but I can modify my actions as much as needed.
I had a neighbor once that gave me the "low-down" on everyone in the neighborhood. It turns out that HE was the a-hole, and everyone else was great. We had a fence between our properties that he told me the first day that we met, that the fence was 4 feet on his property. He had done that so that one of the former owners of my house could dump big rocks into the creek that ran behind our properties. We moved to a much nicer house that was just down the street 100 yards. We kept our old house and rented it out. The renters asked if they could plant some flowers. I said "No problem."
A day later I saw the old man next door over shaking his finger at my renters, so I walked down to see what was happening. I asked what the problem was, and the old man said, "They are digging up MY grass!" I replied, "I am so sick of hearing about your fence, either move the Damn fence or shut the f up." He then said, "If I was 20 years younger,............." I replied, "If you were 20 years younger, I would kick your A....!" About that time his Wife came out and drug him back to the house.
The renters were shocked, and I told them to go ahead and plant their flowers, you will not have any more trouble with him.
The neighbor on the other side had the land surveyed and found that the fence was 4" on her side, so I came home one day to find my gate laying in the grass and the fence moved. The neighbor lady came over and told me what she did. I just said ok. One weekend she had mentioned to some other people that she was going over to the coast for the weekend. (She did not tell me) Saturday I noticed water running out her front door. A pipe broke in her old trailer house. (10 by 60) I knew where the water shut-off was, and if she had not been such a b-hole about the fence, I would have shut off her water. BUT, she was, and I did not. It caused a ton of problems for her. Do you think that the 4 inches of property was worth it?
I will probably get flamed for doing that, but I do not care. Like I said, I am a good friend, but I would not want me as an enemy.

It's like if somebody falls down a flight of stairs and breaks their neck and dies should everybody avoid that flight of stairs for the rest of everybody's life in the world? No you should not it's your pool your property they should get over it sorry to sound so cold and insensitive about it but they're the ones calling you the a****** no you're not an a****** they are and if they're upset about it what's the obviously not they would have moved and I say this because them being in the same house the same neighborhood they would have moved because of the emotional stress of thinking I remember my child coming through here I remember my child playing over there they're just looking to lash out at someone that's the situation so go ahead and enjoy your pool with your children

OP 1; people need to grow a pair and just tell idiots to F off. This stupid over concern that most people have with thinking that it’s their responsibility to not "offend" anyone. If someone chooses to take offense that’s their problem. Just grow up and tell others to do the same. And why would you not care about someone stealing a few feet inside your property line? No one is that dumb. I call BS on the whole story.
OP 2; I don’t know why tree loppers or arborists aren’t required to gain proof of authorization if the laws require a permit or at the very least require official documentation from a city qualified surveyor that proves that the land belongs to them. To just walk onto a property and start carving down trees on the say so of some random person is the grossest of negligence. OP should’ve gone after the moron who cut it down without proof that the person requesting the job owned the property.
