Sergers can also be used for seaming knits and spandex fabrics, I'm sure you already know this but in case anyone else didn't. They are actually more secure seams and will still stretch as long as you have the right settings. A zigzag stitch would be better if you don't have a serger to begin with. It's so much faster than cutting down the seam allowance as well. Either way, great vid and cute swimsuit!

Thank you so much for having a quality video about how to add the elastic. I have been having issues adding the elastic to the leg openings on my suit, I think its because the fabric is slightly thicker, hopefully this method works because I'm sick of using my seam ripper! :)

Great job Mimi! Love that Levine's is working with you. Great tutorial! I've done swimwear and costuming for years, and love seeing how others do it. Nice job! In larger women's sizes I'd recommend a tad wider elastic for the waistline as it lays flatter on a full figure women.

Mimi can u do a conversation topic on what to do when your measurements do not fall within the patterns ranges and there is no alternative sizing or sizes available. how can u make any pattern work for Anyone. Please Help Mimi.
U should check out Adao A's page they have tutorials on how to make patterns from ur measurements
ltorr153 That channel is great! I made a nice pair of high-waist, wide-leg linen pants using their directions for the pattern and alterations. Now I have a custom pattern I can re-use. I plan to try some of their other patterns soon.
My problem is where exactly do you put your measurements on the tissue paper.

This will be my first time making a swimsuit and I just have one question, I know this is basically a rule of thumb but I just wanted to make sure. We wash and hang dry both fabrics before we cut the pieces out, right?
you should try the brothers sewing machine. there are all types and they are the best. mine is the brother bb370 it is amazing
Where could I get that outline box from that you used to cut out your pieces for the bathing suit??
If you can't find the fabric pens, you can use kids washable marker pens. I use Crayola Washable Marker Pens to draw out the pattern on spandex. It washes out so easily that I don't need to pre wash it before going to the pool.

If I want to add elastic to the bottom of the top piece also, how much extra fabric should I cut to account for that?
