Design isn't about where you get it from, but what you get! So many dupes and inexpensive ideas to fit everyone's style and design sense!!! Great job KB!!!👏
HI Kiva ---I read a good book this week about Iris Apfel . I think you would enjoy it. Fast short read, lots of pictures & what a story. She is currently 101 yo & has just come out with a series of rugs on Ruggable. Also on the topic of Marble. If you read in history people used to have marble tubs & their complaint was they didn't hold heat well. I have seen several people comment on vlogs that have redone their bathrooms they regretted getting the stand alone tubs out of marble just for that reason. Hope you are having a great week.
I especially loved the section on curves. I loved how you included accessibility, too. Any chance for a DIY video on making the curvy vase with plaster coming anytime soon? As always, thanks KB !!💜
Thank you so much for this video! It seems many are using budget, low priced etc in their titles but when you click the links in the description nothing is under $50. A $60 fruit bowl just isn't budget to me. That marble peel/stick is gorgeous.
That is the beauty of Mid Century Modern and Vintage, they lend themselves to so many styles. I have Eclectic Vintage Boho MCM mixed all together and the result is cohesiveness due to their similarities .
Hi Kiva, your skin looks amazing! have this Sunkissed glow! Love that you're down-to-earth... many times I have experienced a stuck up attitude from people with impeccable taste! Y'alls home looks gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your incredible expertise. I've learned so much!
Erin, you're too kind! Thank you! I'm really working on my skin and trying to not wear makeup even when my skin looks bad, so that really made my day! People who are stuck up have no place in the world of design! This is about making people feel comfortable in their own homes, so there's no room for egos.
I wish designers would define “vintage” - if it’s from the noughts is it vintage or that’s not old enough? Is it something old but not technically antique? If it is manufactured in 2023 but references a previous style, is it vintage? If something is not vintage, what makes it current but not vintage? Not trying to be pedantic but there is probably almost nothing that doesn’t to some extent reference a prior period and the term just seems so vague and overused.
I wouldn't say I'm into Hollywood glam, but I really like the idea of a round metal coffee table so I'm seriously considering just painting one silver lol
i agree, instead of marble wallpaper, choose something else in a fun pattern, everyone can tell it’s marble paper and not real marble & that will just make your home look cheap. the floor tiles are ok bc they can actually look real but the paper marble, no
Curved furniture is here to stay and items so modern I love how u give advice to save money but still bring that high end effect u do amazing job at balancing the trends ideals thank u I learn a lot from you
I love love love Art Deco. Always have. I have a beautiful Art deco inspired fluted desk from Needless Markup ( Neiman Marcus ) and I'm having the hardest time figuring out what to pair it with. It is both at different angles either silver or gold, champagne maybe. I'm leaning towards a jewel green or Teal office chair , black arched bookcases and some sort of console in the middle of the bookcases to store office supplies, etc. Looking for a peel and stick wallpaper that ties it all together..but idk? So I wait...
Whew! Kiva, take a breath, girl😂 you sure were talking fast today😂. I loved all your recommendations and I think I can start with the lamps. Thank you. You are my “Go to” inspiration ❤️
I love the art deco/hollywood glam look, but Im kidding myself and being someone Im not completely by doing my whole room that way. Thanks for the tips to incorporate elements of it without being tacky or going overboard

I really enjoy your videos. I always learn something from you. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with all of us. We built our retirement home and have lived in it a couple years now. It’s still a work in progress. Don’t laugh but I’ve gotten an idea in the middle of the night before and got up and decorated. Lol. Trust me, I have issues. Thx again.
Great ideas! I’m a new subscriber and have been watching your previous videos. You’re looking so good and healthy here, Kiva! Whatever you’re doing, keep it up 🤗
I really appreciate the information you share, in such an efficient manner. Too many folks take to long to get to the point and I ain’t got time for that. 😉
Regular wall paint plus Kilz interior primer equals limewash-look. The Kilz doesn't mix completely with the paint so it ends up looking like the limewash. I did it in one bedroom in my house and it looks amazing.
@@LIMABN You have to keep stirring the mixture, but not to the point where it mixes temporarily. It takes a minute to get used to buy you'll find your rhythm. Feel free to ask any questions when you are working on it. I'm happy to help :)
I have Kb 😢😂too many times…. My poor toes though hahaa. They better now bcuz I don’t have any coffee table at all while I wait for the perfect round table. Thanks for sharing. I get a lot of what I’m looking for in all your videos. Have a blessed week darling ❤
I prefer matching furniture to art, not creating art to match furniture. To my taste the color match is too “on the nose” to be sophisticated and looks like leftover paint was used. But the look is very clean and works as a functional background.
Thanks I do not like my travertine floors. And now I will look into some sort of floor covering I can do. Would love my whole house to be wooden - I only have 800 meters - but then I would have to do something with the doors mmm 🌺🥰
As a designer my number one stay away from is exotic marbles. Reason 1 is it's a short term trend and reason 2 is in most peoples homes it creates a visual imbalance and should instead only use the product that just minimally does it's job of keeping your eye up and taking it to the farthest point in the room. Why are most marble focal points on a backsplash behind the stove, back wall of a shower, and a fireplace/ It's because it's the farthest point from the eye when you walk into that area of the home and if your home isn't that way then DO NOT DO IT!!!
I looked at Queer Eye offering. Not enough details. Such as cement table. What is the height? What is diameter? What is the seat height of a chair? Without basic dimensions, Walmart will have many dissatisfied customers who willl have to return items
Hello, I'm interested in getting a virtual design consultation from you but the links referenced in your bio lead nowhere. Could you please post? Thanks
Kiva, you gave me a heart attack with you photo of floor décor. A pink chesterfield!! This could either be an example of mixing styles, or the lasting style of a Chesterfield sofa. I finally bought a brown leather one for my traditional home. I will never part with it.
Absolutely! Vintage and antique furniture are still around because they are made to last for decades or longer. Stop the fast fashion disposable furniture mind set. solid wood lasts forever, dovetailed drawers are specifically designed to take daily use, 8 way hand tied sofas are comfy and tight enough support to last - reupholster in a current high performance fabric.
I would never have a rug or carpet or anything similar under the dining room table.... I have a child under the age of 12. LOL 🤣 You're too funny. I might as well buy a white rug put it underneath the dining room table until my child to paint at the dining room table. LOL 🤔🤫🤣
When you said "Floor Decor" I thought you said "Florida Core" and I was so confused as to why we would ever make an aesthetic that was reminiscent of Florida lol
My husband loves mid century modern. But I do not. We will never have it in a home I live in. It reminds me of the Naugahyde furniture we had when I was a kid. I hated that sofa. It was cold in the winter, and you stuck to it in the summer. It did out last seven kids. And I think we all felt the same about it. And it was an ugly green. Because green was my mom’s favorite color. I think it finally cracked and we had to get a real fabric sofa. I just like normal design. I’m not going to be in style. And that’s fine with me.
Good point on the curves - they will scream 2022-2023 in a few years so I choose to add curves or other trends in pieces that are classic or not as expensive as for example, a high quality sofa.
You mention a couple of times a “queer eye” collection but it’s not listed in the show notes. What is it and where can I get it? It seems to be a collection of affordable MCM-inspired furniture?
I'm afraid classic Midcentury modern is anything but affordable unless you're buyimg a knock-off or at a streetmarket. The pricetags on authentic Eames chairs are headache-inducing.
Umm... Probably alone in my preferences but not fond of marble nor plaster. But love the mid-century modern look furniture 😍, but not the mid - century artwork.
