Great video and a real good wood shed. You are so lucky to have a wife to help you with what you two are building. Please be more careful of her because she is so willing. Her under that big log with no tag rope ( a rope around the top of the post then over the horizontal 2x10 tied to your post you are going to lift ) to catch the big log if it would fall and her under it could put her in a wheelchair or worse. You are the big guy so protect her. I like how you chose to use a cement pad and not dig the post hole and explain why because of the water... I will be following your builds so keep up the good work.

I was impressed seeing someone else actually man handle some logs themselves! Can tell you obviously lift or have some type of gym history and i agree, you have to keep moving. Lifting heavy things - using the right technique as you seem to do, will keep those lumbars and errectors strong enough so that if you ever do kink your back, you arent out of businesses for good like some others i see

That's fascinating. I live in Texas…no real moisture like that. But I am wanting to put some juniper tree trunks on sonotube piles for the height I needed. For a brush arbor. Would be easier to do what you did…but wasn't sure it wouldn't move. Maybe the square design of yours contributes to stability? Mine will be a double rowed arch measuring about 25'. 10" - 14" trunk circumfrance..maybe 9' high. Would have cross pieces at top of arbor.

Great shed! I wish you had showed how you attached the rafters and purlins, and also the side supports (I assume mortise and tenon?) and 45s. But great work, I love the simplicity and structural strength.
Timber screws were used through out I just curved the ends of the bracing logs and fit them against the uprights and put a couple screws angled in. Two years later everything good

I have a very small yard behind the camera and the tractor barely fits. Rey hard to maneuver and a chance I could run into my cabin. Also I would destroy the yard and have to redo it so I opted for physical labor.
My notes on this DIY: bulk up my body from 160 to 240. Hit the gym and do dead lifts of 400lbs. Learn to be a lumberjack. Assemble wood shed. Got it. :-)
Great build for not a lot of money but would like to suggest a couple of mobile home tie down anchors in the ground because if you ever get a good wind underneath that thing it's going to fly like a kite

I have both a grapple and forks for the grapple it there was very little space to get the tractor in and it would have destroyed the yard so we had to do some hard work. Thanks for watching

Didn’t want to tear up my yard or get stuck and potentially back into my cabin it being a very tight spot. It’s just a bit of oil most of it soaking into the wood we pump the stuff out of the ground maybe I’m wrong but I don’t believe it’s a major hazard. It’s been a few years now unless there a tornado which will blow everything away this thing ain’t moving all the sides are open to let the wind through.

@@oms1972 The only problem log was the high horizontal log the others weren’t bad. I didn’t use my tractor right away because it was a very tight area that my wife spent a lot of time growing grass. I didn’t want to tear it up or hit my cabin. In the end I had to use it though. The other tools you mentioned would have took too much prep time for an impatient person such as myself. Many people have commented on me putting my wife and myself endanger of injury. I would never do anything I thought my wife couldn’t handle and I know my limits. We have done many projects like this in the past eight or so years without injury.

The main support beams that I built out of 24 foot PT 2x12's weighed approx 1,000 lbs each so I didn't have a choice but to use a block and tackle to lift them up 20 ft off the ground. And I'm almost 70 years old and weigh 150 lbs soaking wet so I'm not nearly as strong as you are. I'm planning to build a log Lean-to on our property this year, I'll give you a call when I'm ready to go. Again, nice job on your project, looks great!
Love this shed for wood! Can you give more info on log dimensions you use and size of shed. Do you use a certain diameter log for corner post and rafters? Also how you are putting the logs into the ground (in general).
I used around 10” diameter for the posts and larger beams and did not put these in the ground on this particular build just set them on concrete pads. The shed is 12’ by 10’ and the rafters are smaller around 6” hope this helps

That’s a cool build. How has it held up to winds? We would like to do something like this. Sometimes we get some gnarly winds, would be afraid of it blowing down our mountain.
Looks like it will serve the purpose of what it is intended to do however the heavy heavy logs is overkill, I would just had used 2×4/2×6/4×4s would had worked fine as well.
I have alot of dry ash killed by ash borers on the land so I'm thinking of doing something like this but maybe a bit taller.. say 10ft front and 7 rear posts to give me some attic storage in the future. How is the design holding up did the pads work out? I was thinking of using concrete pier blocks to give the wood some height off the ground
Everything is holding up great finally started loading it with wood the last few weeks. The head room works well as far as loading and I have pallets underneath that take up a little space too. I’m able to keep some lumbar and a extension ladder stored above the top side braces.
Can't find video but have seen someone debarking with a scrape blade on a tractor he had a rounded notch cut into the blade and just drove back and forth over the log

No problems yet it has to weigh over 4000 lbs I would guess and were in a low lying area so Iam not worried

Everything is holding up great finally started loading it with wood the last few weeks. The head room works well as far as loading and I have pallets underneath that take up a little space too. I’m able to keep some lumbar and a extension ladder stored above the top side braces.
Do you have to let the wood fry first or just cut and soak in oil

Can't find video but have seen someone debarking with a scrape blade on a tractor he had a rounded notch cut into the blade and just drove back and forth over the log

I’m doing the same thing with making them posts for my structure. Did you use some sort of clear stain or preserve to make them look nicer and last longer ? Thanks
I just used some old oil and rubbed down the areas that would be underground or about 2’ above I would let it soak in and then put another coat.
Peeling logs sucks. Good job getting your wife to do that part 😉
We both have our peeling log patch we are building our house from trees we’ve cut and had to peel all of those
