Charlotte is correct. For instance, Bill Edwards (the handsome baritone) joined in 2006, so that's 14 years -- three gold stripes. Adam Whitman (the tall skinny tenor) joined in 2009, 11 years of service, and has two red stripes that will turn to three gold next year (unless he's been naughty in some way we cannot imagine). Most Navy uniforms also have stripes indicating rank, but the Navy Band personnel ALL wear senior NCO uniforms when performing.
For some reason, this normally superb ensemble was a little bit "off" in this. Don't know if it was an outbreak of some bug , poor equipment, fatigue or some other factor that caused it, but it was a bit below par for them, especially the male singers. Despite being a fully-fledged male chauvinist I must concede that the chicks who did the "Son of a Preacher Man" and the Karen Carpenter song, were right owned their choice of song :-)
