Spent hours yesterday trying to get the HC-06 to connect to my son's laptop. He had used it 6 months ago for a different project. So it should have been working. But he lost his USB adaptor for his laptop, and I thought maybe it had something to do with the replacement. I tried connecting on my laptop, but that runs Fedora 28 which simply prompted a passcode and then went into setting up connection forever. We tried connecting it back to the arduino he used for his previous project. Same issue. Each time Windows 10 would say please "retry this connection again". Finally I took his dongle and tried it on my wife's desktop. No problem, worked perfectly.
In the short of it we downloaded and installed a driver. That did not fix it either, but then when rebooting the third time, Windows decided to install an update I guess that was downloaded as a result of the driver. After the update installed it just started working normally. Strangely, I did not have to install any drivers on my wife's desktop, even though it has version/configuration of Windows 10.
Thank you!!!, you really saved me there, I thought my module was broken and thought about just buying another one, the main problem was, that the configuration of the module (example the name) was not set up correctly, and the name still was HC-06 when connecting to bluetooth, but with the blueterm I was aable to test the sending signal and it worked like a charm!, awesome vid keep it up!.

Reading the comments below I can see I'm not the only one ! Problem is in wireless connection . I can "see" HC06 on all my devices ....I just can't connect . SOmetimes I do get a request for a pairing code and my PC says "ready to use" after entering it . This is BS since the red light on HC06 never stops blinking . No connection wirelessly .
Physically I can connect over FTDI and I have successfully changed name and baud rate .
Wirelessly this HC06 simply doesn't work . Ive tried 4 of them on 5 different computers ....same result ....doesn't work !!
Am wondering if i can modify my bluetooth audio transmitter so when ls looking for 2 devices for pair to looks only for one device because is connecting with my neighbours without my premision

With my bluetooth module when I short RX and TX whatever the command that I send doesn't get replicated, if I send 1 then only 1 is printed. When I connect the module with an USB to TTL converter with Rx - RX, TX-TX, Vcc-5v and GND- GND and connect to the com port and send 'AT' command via serial monitor (arduino serial monitor), I don't get the response 'OK'. Does it mean the HC-06 module is broken? But the LED on the module is continuously blinking when the device is not connected to any other device. Does it mean only serial communication is broken? Can you please help me out here?
When you pair to the HC-06 module the LED stops blinking and goes solid. The USB to TTL should be connected with TX->RX and RX->TX, GND to GND. Default baud rate is 9600. Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/Iyd4gX0AR54/v-deo.html

Hi, excellent video!. I'm facing a problem, my HC-05 blinks 1sec HIGH 1sec LOW, I think it is not in Pair mode, but only with Vcc and GND connectec it still keeps same blinking. When I enter AT Mode, it keeps the same blinks. Don't know how to exit AT Mode. I can see the device on my android phone but cant connec't, it rejects pairing with message "incorrect pin".

No, The HC-06 only supports data not audio.

You cannot "read" the name , you can only program the name which will cause it to come up in the pairing list.

the echo back is working for me, but would not return OK when i send AT or any command.
Make sure you are not paired when sending AT commands ( LED should be blinking )
Command should be in UPPER case with serial speed of 9600 N81 (Default)
Copy and paste commands or use a serial terminal that can send commands in a text box all at once.

Im unable to configure or setup mine in IDE, its not responding to AT commands but lights are flashing...
Any ideas?
The AT commands have to be sent very quickly, so copy and paste the whole command in one go. It also doesn't require you to press enter, or send CR/LF. This works for me but i can't get a stable connection on either linux or android :/

If You have no answer to AT command try AT+VERSION
It is not showing the light on the Bluetooth module

plz help.. i changed the password of my hc06 module.. now i forget the pswd.. do you have any idea how to reset the configuration? i've seen a lot of tutorial just show the hc-05 module but not the hc06..
