This was such a treat to watch. Even lip-syncing, Gene Pitney shows such enthusiasm, and the kids along for the video are refreshing in how unrehearsed they are. What looks like a tugboat sailing by at the end adds a nice touch. I’ve read the ship they were on was slated to become a restaurant, but that didn’t pan out, and that it later sunk in a storm in the 1970s. Now Pier 4 is upscale real estate.
Great memories of rock Americana by pop singer, Gene Pitney. TV favorite in 61-67. RIP. Twangy voice. Unforgettable too. Thanks, Gene. Vive les pop rock and retro freaks ...
I do! I enjoy a wide range of music but always come back to Gene Pitney. Thankfully he put out such a volume of work that you can spend hours listening to this man. I love his Country and Italian songs. Gene Pitney and George Jones were the most unlikely pairing but boy could they sing (and whistle) in harmony! You have an ear for good music Jimmie.
What a wonderful bit of old film with a great singer. Thank you for the upload. I saw Gene Pitney on stage in the 60s in Bournemouth. He talked ,among other things, about his health. I think he took lots of thing to keep himself healthy. It was so sad that he died so relativity young. In my opinion, his talent was immense.
Look for the you tube version that has both Neil Sedaka's vocal and Gene Pitney's vocals on seperate channels for the exact same backing track. RCA wouldn't let Neil release it because it didn't follow his usual C, Am, F, G chord progression.
Actually Sedaka was changing labels and he recorded the song outside of RCA, which refused to issue it because it was recorded outside of his contract with them.
I noticed her, too...she looked miserable, but was trying to move with the beat anyway. A spring day on Boston Harbor can be chilly, and it looked like it had been raining. Pitney’s jacket when he is in closeup late in the video looks splotchy-wet.
Gene is singing to the exact same backing track that Neil Sedaka did on his original demo. It even sounds like Neil doing the chorus voices speeded up.
One of my Gene Pitney songs! IT always rings in my head! Thank you Gene! 😅😊
More proof that the 60's was the greatest decade in music
His voice is still just one of a kind
Great video love gene and the girls dancing ❤️❤️👏👏

I was 17 years-young in 1966 and remember this song so well. Gene Pitney had one of the greatest voices of all time.
This is one singer I could sit and listen to for hours and hours

He died of a heart attack and had horribly clogged arteries according to his autopsy. He was very talented no doubt.

Hello dear,how are you doing?
Thanks for posting this great video
A big favourite of mine and also love the female backing singers
reminds me of my first love...Nan Cole of Akron Ohio....many many years ago
Great song. Gene was awesome. I love the girls in the short skirts doing the pony!
They all seem cold and stiff at first but warmed up later. Could be cold in Boston at that time. Still a great song. GP one of my all time favs.
"It's so neat to meet your baby *where the action is* !" Loved that show as a kid

So nice to watch him in person without everyone screaming
Hello dear,how are you doing?
This isn't live, but that's OK. He's just miming which was almost always the case with television appearances in the 1960s.
This is from Where The Action Is.
The girl at 0:23 needs to be wearing something warmer.

1:39-1:52 What instrument is playing here? Is it a pipe organ?
