When “The Iron Giant” arrived in theaters in 1999, it was hailed as an “instant classic” by Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal, and the world soon learned another giant had arrived as well: filmmaker Brad Bird, who made his stunning directorial debut with this film and has gone on to win two Oscars, as well as worldwide acclaim for his work on both animated and live-action features. Winner of nine Annie Awards, “The Iron Giant” is being re-mastered and enhanced with two all-new scenes.
The film takes place in October of 1957, when America had plenty to be worried about. Rock ’n’ roll. Television. The bomb. And on the fourth day of that month, the Soviets successfully launched the first manmade satellite, Sputnik, into orbit. The space race had officially begun. The Cold War just got colder. People were unsure about their neighbors, even questioning their friends.
In the small town of Rockwell, Maine, Annie Hughes (voice of Jennifer Aniston) is just worried about putting supper on the table for herself and her nine-year-old son, Hogarth (voice of Eli Marienthal). A single mother holding down a job at the local diner, Annie has her hands full with Hogarth-headstrong and imaginative, always on the lookout for the latest attempted takeover by mutant aliens or subversive invaders.
So when a local fisherman comes into the diner with a tall tale about a huge metal man falling into the sea, the only one to pay him much attention is Hogarth, who sets out exploring to find the enormous robot. What he does find is a 50-foot giant with an insatiable appetite for metal and a childlike curiosity about its new world.
Rumors of everything from an alien invasion to a Russian secret weapon bent on destroying Rockwell soon spread through the small town, prompting the arrival of government agent Kent Mansley (voiced by Christopher McDonald). Keeping one step ahead of Mansley, Hogarth convinces his beatnik friend Dean (voiced by Harry Connick, Jr.) to hide the Iron Giant (voiced by Vin Diesel) in Dean’s junkyard.
But it isn’t long before the rumors turn into paranoia-the situation escalates and the possible destruction of Rockwell looms. Hogarth turns to his friend, the Iron Giant, who ultimately finds its humanity by unselfishly saving the town’s residents from their own fears and prejudices.
In times like these, you really find out what your friends are made of…sometimes, it’s even metal.
Warner Bros. presents “The Iron Giant,” a full-length animated motion picture directed by Brad Bird. Produced by Allison Abbate and Des McAnuff, the screen story is by Brad Bird and the screenplay is by Tim McCanlies, based on the book The Iron Man, by British Poet Laureate Ted Hughes. It was executive produced by Pete Townshend and the music is by Michael Kamen. The film also stars the voices of James Gammon (as Marv Loach / Floyd Turbeaux), Cloris Leachman (as Mrs. Tensedge), John Mahoney (as General Rogard) and M. Emmet Walsh (as Earl Stutz). “The Iron Giant” is distributed by Warner Bros.
“The Iron Giant: Signature Edition” will be re-released in theaters across North America for a special Fathom Events screening on Wednesday, September 30, with an encore event on Sunday, October 4. - Розваги
The most underrated Superman film in existence.
Ha!
+Pepsiman Totally agree! And way better than Man of Steel.
This is not Superman, it's an original film from Brad Bird
Pepsiman I known OF the movie, but they ONLY reference Superman in the scene where the kid is showing him Action Comics # 1 I know I saw the clip of it and in the end The Giant said "Superman" so this isn't a Superman movie... Plus would Superman survive a Nuclear explosion? If he was a rogot?
Cynthia Utz Your missing the point of the movie, "You are who you choose to be" the Iron Giant chose to be "Superman" Therefore making this a "Superman" movie
This is a movie that deserves to get #1 on the box office for 2 months and sell 1 billion in a week. A True Animated Masterpiece. shame that we live in the world where a mediocre film like Frozen gets more attention than this piece of art.
+AssassinsDen4 While Frozen isn't my favorite movie ever, it certainly isn't mediocre.
Run of the mill? Yeah, but not mediocre.
Fact of the matter is, Giant came out back when John Q. Public didn't care for more thought provoking pieces, but this second chance, if you will, could be when it get's the recognition it deserves.
+AssassinsDen4 The big plot from Frozen is just we realize Hans is just Kent Mainsley... ^^
+SpikeStarkey Frozen, compared to the likes of Toy Story, Incredibles, Lion King,......, is mediocre.
+AssassinsDen4 You hate Frozen? How original.
Frozen is mediocre... Aside from the songs and animation it doesn't have anything that makes it a masterpiece
Best moral movie ever
"You are who YOU choose to be".
Rock / Tree
legit.
Well except you’re not.
@@lukeskywalker6809 Go away Disney Luke nobody likes you.
@@FatalDreidel Reported for bullying.
"Who built it? ... Canadians??"
I laughed my ass at that line.
At the time Canada was on the bleeding edge of aerospace technology, so it's not *quite* as crazy as it sounds.
That happened because everybody was scared shitless bout nuclear weapons on the verge of being used and so anybody that doesn't want to get conquered had to catch up in some way
Most likely koreans
You stay...I go.
Them feels
No following. 😢
+KoistOG We are Groot.
I cried in that scene :'(
+Luca Righetto I don't blame you. So emotional. I need to watch this again, haven't watched it in years.

This trailer is meant to be nostalgic for the people who love the movie, so glad this is being re-released!
I'm glad this movie is finally getting the attention it deserves. Being re-released in theaters, a new documentary is being made about the film, and a big collector's edition set for the film comes out this September. It's about time. This is easily the best animated film ever made.
am definitely getting the collector's edition. even a letter from brad bird 😏

Me too. I also miss good clay-animation films.
+Benamax
There's a clay animated film coming out later this year, at least clay animated films show up sporadically
Kids this days won't know what a real, heart warming movie this is... Best movie ever. Still makes me tear up every time I see it
The Iron Giant is the best movie ever, that i wish Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation should make a new 2023 Television Animated Series called The Iron Giant: The Series. Based on the characters of the movie The Iron Giant.
@@rossauradiaz5056 do you think that they'd introduce new sc fi elements? Like maybe aliens or other robots? Maybe evil ones for the iron giant to fight or better yet, convince not to be evil?
Yeah.
I hate it when people say kids these days it makes my head hurt. Especially if it's as easy as showing a kid today the iron giant, it doesn't have a experiment date
@@fatfetus5544 Kids these days will never be able to appreciate Paw Patrol SMH (obvious joke)
One of the best movies no one went to see :/
Defiantly agree. It's on my top 10 animated movies I've seen. Brad Bird is amazing. He's done so many great things for animation. I'll remember him for his work on The Simpson's.
I watched it
It was my favourite movie when i was a kid
Saw this in theaters back in 1999, and proud of it

My older brother really REALLY loves this film.
He didn’t like it at first when he was little in the early 2010’s, but now he LOVES it.
I have the vcr tape and have a faint memory but so nice
"You are what you choose to be" and "Superman."....two of my favorite lines from this awesome movie.
I don't know why, but I remember this movie so well with almost all the scenes no idea why really
Omg i finally found the trailer! This movie was my childhood!

back then we have real animation movies, today everything is CGI
You do realize the Giant is cgi right? Uses cell shading, the same texture as Wind Waker.
+NuclearDiplomacy well i think hes referring to the "Cartoon-ish" look, rather than the 3D animations nowadays. But i get ur point
It's a mix, though. The human characters are 2D.
***** That's what I meant
NuclearDiplomacy
Ah sorry yeah, I saw cgi as 3D style. But in fact it means everything made on a computer?
I cried so hard when I watched this as a kid
This is a reminder to watch this again. Thank you.
1:51 Vin Diesel voice
Yeah well. He is the Iron Giant
I really wish I saw this in a theater, it's the greatest animated movie of all time!
I mean, sure it's good, but the greatest animated movie of all time?
Akira, Mononoke Hime, Hotaru no Haka, Hercules, Lion King, Mulan........
@@misantrope6267 Those movies are overrated.
I just found this movie on Netflix planning to watch it I haven't seen in a long time I've seen as a child.
one of the best films of all time my son is now 18 and kind of a tough guy and the iron giant still makes him cry. beautiful and unforgettable. brad bird is a genius
He sure is
18 years ago where has the time gone?!
Hopefully a Blu-ray release will follow!
It's confirmed to come out after the re-release sometime in the fall. Probably November.
Childhood enchanced
its amazing how they combined 2d and 3d animation
I've always thought that this movie deserved WAY more attention than it got. Finally it seems to be getting it! Yay :)
One of my all time favorites.
This film truly stood the test of time. It's easily one of Brad Bird's most remarkable work and will be loved for many years to come.
Sure will be
My dad used to love this movie back in year 2,000. RIP DAD
One of my all-time favorite films - animated or not. Storytelling at its very best and just all around a perfect piece of movie art, in my opinion.
This movie is a masterpiece of animation
Y'all don't know how much nostalgia i got from this! I was only 7 when i saw it for the first time, my dad bought me the vhs and man it was my alltime favorite movie of my childhood. Today I'm 23 and seeing this just ahhh... it really brought tears to my eyes.
Same man.
Years after years and this movie will never cease to be my childhood favorites it brings back many memories when i watched it with my brothers and cousins , there is no doubt that the iron giant for me is without a doubt one of the best animated films of the 90s ❤️
Such a timeless classic.
Incredible, classic, beautiful film... I loved it as a kid, and love it still to this day. No matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old.
The Iron Giant is the best movie ever. My favorite character is Hogarth Hughes and it was a huge sucess, that Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation should make a new 2023 Television Animated Series called The Iron Giant: The Series based on the characters of the movie The Iron Giant.
An absolute masterpiece and my favourite animated film as a kid. Unlocked some core 20+ yr old memories watching this trailer. Time frigging flies 😢
i love this movie, still waiting for a sequel
I'm a big animation movie fan. I don't understand how did I missed this masterpiece.
COMPLETE CLASSIC....
The last scenes (from the moment he became mad until the end) made my heart hurt so much that I cry everytime I see it, even now that I'm a grown up woman ... That movie was all my childhood and will be, forever, in my heart.
Man this movie makes me cry
they should make a second one....
+Presignify if brad bird makes it then we got something here
God no they'll completely ruin it
+Presignify I disagree. This movie ended perfectly, and doesn't need a sequel.
+Presignify no need.
Vin diesel said on his Facebook "P.S: don't be surprised if W.B announces a sequel."
Top 3 animated movie of all time great characters , great script, great animation, great story !!!
One of the most underrated animated movies of all time. Shame that this is only on the US.
My childhood was great
this is my favorite movie ever and it always will be I was raised on this
Best animated movie of all time ❤
I remember this movie on VHS, we used to watch it instead of going to sleep with school the next morning
I remember when me & my brother where little we would watch this over & over again at my grandmas house 😢 I miss those days sooooo much. This & the one with the boy who had a talking bat & baseball
crying right now because there isn't a part 2
Aw, don't cry, maybe there isn't a part 2, but maybe somehow someday there will be a part 2.
Superman.......... BOOM!
I remember a time as a kid when I would watch this over and over and over again.
One night my mom asked "what should we watch tonight?"
I thought I had the best, most original idea ever and said "I know! The iron giant!"
My mom said "you can't keep watching the same thing over and over!"
I was surprised since I thought she'd want to watch it again after seeing it earlier that day.
I'm a girl by the way, I wonder if this is something young girls would even watch 😅
Masterpiece, this Film was a childhood favourite of mine as well as so many others this comment thread shows it
As a kid, still freshly new to the world, watching this movie felt like a blessing. I remember it making me feel so sad and I was crying in the end. It was like nothing before it. Once in a lifetime type of a cartoon movie. To this day, no cartoon movie impacted me like this. It was mature in a way.
I also remember watching it as a young kid. I just randomly picked it from the VHS rental store. I dont know if i even got to watch it through to the end however, i remember being overwhelmed and i miggt have stopped watching it halfway through because i couldnt handle my emotions
You explained it so perfectly 🥹I’l be 30 next year and I use to watch this movie everyday as a( child. Even until this day it has haunted my dreams and left the most beautiful impression on me. The IRON GIANT WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART ALWAYS 🫶🏾🥹.
Takes me back.
This will forever be my favorite movie of all time.
25 years of this masterpiece. Saw it twice in the opening week and I've never done that since
This movie bombed at the box office when it first came out. HOW COME?!!!
Lack of marketing. You won't buy what you don't know exists.
The best part is AFTER the BOOM!
Still the best Superman movie & we won't see a decent Superman movie until Brad Bird is the director.
I would have to say no to a sequel.
Got a top ten of my favorite animation movies and this one is up on the top, just the storytelling if magnificent and made me cry since I was 8. This movie deserved everything...
I agree with NostalgiCrazy. I like the Iron Giant as well as the film. The Iron Giant is my favorite character in the whole wide world.
Favourite animated movie of all time, ahh the nostalgia... :)
Core memory
This movie was wayy ahead of its time. I was 9 when it came out still remember :)
This movie deserves a Sequel
It's like getting a remake of my childhood. Thank you! :)
What if a gun had a soul and didn’t want to be a gun
My heart just melted with nostalgia.
I am 25 years old now and I still cry for this movie....
This movie is absolutely 'Underrated and Spectacular' I just re-watched it with my niece, she loves it! I truly wish that more adults watch the movie around the world; and stop creating weapons that will kill people and/or the environment. Let's learn from The Iron Giant 'We are not weapons, we are humans, weapons kill - not good'
Yeah not cool
Saw this tonight. It was excellent! The feels and nostalgia kicked in right away
Hogarth: You are what you choose to be.
Iron Giant: I'm Superman.
90's kids favourite movie...😍😍😍
And after this, he directed The Incredibles after a few years.
Man, how I loved this film since I was a kid. :)
I love this film. I first see this film a few months ago and watched it again today with my son. One of the best animated films ever.
It truly is one of the greatest animated movies of all time
I remember watching this movie as a kid
Right now I’m 15
And I still watch this amazing movie
One of my favorite movies growing up.....
Can´t wait for this to be released on BluRay or even better, UHDBD
it's gonna be aired in limited theaters
+Chris Griffin I wish it weren't the case. If classic Pixar films get the chance to be showcased again, then surely this masterpiece gets a second chance for a worldwide viewing. It just needs to be done. WB is cutting back on its marketing potential YET AGAIN!
Chris Griffin as a non-Norh America resident I have no other option but to wait for this to be released on BD since where I live they are only showing new movies in the cinema no matter what. We won´t even get the re-release of Back to the Future, however Jurassic Park was shown so I still have hope this might be returning.
This is a shitty remaster, it seems they only did a 2K scan and not a 4K scan.
+hunkeydoreyplayer I *highly* doubt that you're gonna get much out of a 4k scan over a 2k scan when it's going to be downscaled to 1080p either way.
oh i love this movie
OMG! The Iron Giant is Back!
my tears cannot even describe
This is my favourite movie ever and it always will be... Sob... but.. why are they only doing this in America???!!!!?! D;
Nice to see this getting released into cinemas again! I saw the soundtrack on vinyl with an amazing cover! Brad Bird is someone who I would consider one of my favourite directors! Hope The Incredibles 2 goes well when it comes out!
This should become live action movie.
the nostalgia....
Warner Bros,do you know that I want to buy this on Blu-Ray?
"You are who you choose to be!"
"Supermaaaaan..." *BOOM*
1:52 Before "I'm Groot" he was "I'm Superman" Haha
I feel that the Iron Giant's message is still very timely today especially in the wake of yet another wave of mass shootings that took place recently
