CHÂTEAU MARGAUX "PRODIGY OF THE ARCHITECT" by Bruno Aveillan

On June 14th and 16th this year, Château Margaux celebrated the bicentenary of its architecture. In 1810, the Marquis de la Colonilla, then owner of Château Margaux since 1801, requested one of the greatest architects of the time Louis Combes, to design a new layout for the estate whose wines had been famous since the XVI century. The old buildings were demolished, except the XVIII century Orangery which served as a cellar during the construction. The project was completed in 1815. This building complex, which was registered as an Historic Monument in 1946, has remained unchanged until the present day. Two centuries later, Corinne Mentzelopoulos, the current owner, decided to entrust the design of a new extension to the prominent British architect, Lord Norman Foster, with a view to responding to the challenges of the XXI century, with the construction of a new cellar next to the old ones with a Research and Development Centre in the middle, the construction of an underground Vinotheque and finally a new visitor centre to welcome the thousands of visitors who come from around the world. Corinne Mentzelopoulos hosted the international press, on June 14th, at Château Margaux, for the dinner of the Conseil des Grands Crus Classés en 1855. Bordeaux wine merchants and importers were also invited on June 16th. On this occasion, Château Margaux inaugurated the new buildings designed by Lord Norman Foster. The dinner, prepared by three Michelin star - Guy Savoy, ended with a film about the bicentenary of Château Margaux architecture, directed by Bruno Aveillan.
Les 14 et 16 juin dernier, Château Margaux célébrait le bicentenaire de son architecture. En 1810, le marquis de la Colonilla, propriétaire de Château Margaux depuis 1801, demande à l’un des plus grands architectes de l’époque, Louis Combes, d’élaborer un projet pour le Domaine dont les vins sont réputés depuis le XVIème siècle. La construction s’achève en 1815. Cet ensemble, inscrit à l’inventaire des Monuments Historiques en 1946, était resté inchangé jusqu’à nos jours. Deux siècles plus tard, Corinne Mentzelopoulos décide de confier à Lord Norman Foster la conception d’un nouvel ensemble de bâtiments afin de relever les nouveaux défis du XXIème siècle, avec la construction d’un nouveau chai dans le prolongement des anciens, au cœur duquel se trouve un centre de Recherche & Développement, la construction d’une vinothèque souterraine et enfin un nouveau centre d’accueil pour recevoir les milliers de visiteurs venus du monde entier. Corinne Mentzelopoulos recevait le 14 juin dernier, à Château Margaux, la presse internationale pour le dîner du Conseil des Grands Crus Classés en 1855. Les négociants de la place de Bordeaux et les importateurs ont à leur tour été conviés le 16 juin. Château Margaux inaugurait à cette occasion les nouveaux bâtiments conçus par Lord Norman Foster. Le dîner, préparé par Guy Savoy - trois étoiles au Guide Michelin -, s’est achevé en images sur l’histoire du bicentenaire de l’architecture de Château Margaux, racontée par le réalisateur Bruno Aveillan.
シャトー・マルゴーは去る6月14日と16日、シャトーの建築200週年を祝う式典を執り行いました。 1801年からシャトー・マルゴーを所有したラ・コロニヤ伯爵は1810年に、当時名立たる建築家の一人であったルイ・コンブに依頼して、16世紀からの名声を誇るワインが生まれるドメーヌの設計を一新することにしました。1815年に完成した一連の建物は、1946年に歴史的建造物に指定され、現在まで変わらずその姿を保っていました。 2世紀が過ぎた今、コリーヌ・メンツェロプロスはノーマン・フォスター卿に依頼し、21世紀の挑戦として新たに改築する決心をしました。そしてこれまでの貯蔵庫に加えて新しい貯蔵庫と、その中央に開発研究センターを設置しました。また地下にワインカーヴを作ったほか、世界中から訪れる多くの訪問客を受け入れる応接ルームを設けました。 コリーヌ・メンツェロプロスは6月14日、1855年格付けグラン・クリュ委員会のディナー会場として、シャトー・マルゴーに世界中のジャーナリストを迎えました。また6月16日にはプラス・ド・ボルドー（ボルドー市場）のネゴシアンや輸入業者を招待し、ノーマン・フォスター卿が手掛けた新しい建築を披露しました。 ミシュランガイド3つ星シェフであるギー・サヴォワが腕を振るったディナーは、映像ディレクターであるブルーノ・アヴェイヤンによって綴られたシャトー・マルゴーの建築200年史の映像で締めくくられました。

I was moved beyond my imagination with this film. Words can't describe how beautifully this was shot. I've now watched this 3x and the same feelings each time arose. While telling the story of how one of the most famous Chateaus in the world came to be, may be one of the best film makers has come forward. I can't express my feelings enough of this simple story told thru the eyes of the imagination and lens. BRAVO.... and Merci

What a beautiful and pleasant surprise that we came to Chateau Margaux yesterday and found the gate was locked... It was raining and we almost decided to return to Bordeaux, then suddenly we met Corinne while she was riding a bike. Thanks to her kindness and warm hospitality, we could be able to go into the gate and the building! It was truly a pleasant and fantastic experience! It was fun and comfort visiting the building. Thank you so much Corinne and don't forget to come visit Taiwan some day. Sam.
