    There is a great deal of abstract art that I find uninteresting and often unpleasant, but when it hits right for me, it's kind of magical.

      I hear you. I don't resonate with a lot of it, too. I really like texture, color, and when a painting makes me stare at it for a long time. LOL. Thanks for your comment!

    Hi Andrea! Thanks for the helpful videos. I'm a beginner artist who also lives in Santa Fe (near the Rose Park) and just stumbled upon your channel this week. I spent the past 31 years as a full-time mental health therapist and have found art to be incredibly healing. Right now, I'm trying to paint (something) every day and learn as much as I can. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience.

    👍🏼 Kandinsky is a favorite ! Abstract art is hard. I am as green as grass when it comes to moving away from representational painting but skirt around the edge of those concepts trying a bit at a time. Good job of explaining. Let’s keep painting!

      Wonderful! It is indeed hard--I discuss that a lot in the previous video I did. Will link next. I made the move from representational...it just takes some time and practice. It's such a different process! Glad you liked the video-here's one called "Abstract Art Mistakes You're Probably Making"--ua-cam.com/video/JE3z40zorEo/v-deo.html

    FOCUSING ON AN IDEA RATHER Than spontaneously putting paint on canvass is big challenge. What should the end result look like?

    • @andreacermanskipainting
      @andreacermanskipainting  4 місяці тому

      I think you'd want to imagine what that idea could look like and try to make that happen. You could try sketching it first, or using a digital art program.

    Like all art, there is good, and bad. If a piece stirs emotions such as awe, happiness, sadness, or just appreciation for color scheme, or maybe imagination, and effort, to me, it would be good art, no matter what kind it is.

    How can I be able on painting abstract, to transfer my idea to the canvas?

    • @andreacermanskipainting
      @andreacermanskipainting  4 місяці тому +1

      This is a BIG question. So I think what I'm hearing is that you are struggling with how to transfer the idea from your head to the canvas. I think I might try a sketch first, and get the composition in. Then, I would start laying in the colors. I would also allow myself to depart from the original idea, because I like to flow with the process and see what emerges. For me, I like to play with colors and shapes and see what starts to come up. You might check out this 4-part tutorial I did on "How to Start an Abstract With Shapes"--ua-cam.com/video/ge07K0oj6YM/v-deo.html

    “What is this abstract painting about?” Painting. “But, I mean, what’s it a painting of?” Paint. That’s my take. (I’m PRO abstraction, to be clear.)

    Some abstract artists do just throw paint on canvas and sell it for large amounts of money. Not my kind of abstract though. I love David Mankins style.

    Great presentation, well that is until you put up work by Basquiat, given the fact that he worked at a frenetic pace often high on drugs and created graffiti on canvas, he seemed to have no purpose ART method merely a kinetic energy he could not control.

      Well it's a good thing the purpose of this video (my original thoughts) was NOT to impress, but to educate. I am sure there are other resources out there that aren't so academic, so better to spend time there than my channel, because I can't help but be academic:)
