During the autumn of 2005, in a small local owned bookshop, i saw Tab Hunter. It was quite a time before the book signing was due to start. There was Tab preparing the table and bringing out the supply of his books.
He was stunning.
I'm really pleased to learn, albeit years later, that he had a long & happy relationship with his partner (and later, husband). That's a happy ending worthy of Hollywood!
At 77, I remember my distant love affair with Tab Hunter. He STILL is the only man with whom I had a long-distance affair. Although we never knew each other, we did meet often - - in my dreams!!! I wept at his passing and will never forget how special he was to me. And I was lucky to meet my "Tab" almost 40 years ago. Thanks for everything, darling Tab!

Nobody believes me, but I knew Tab Hunter. I was in college at Ohio State Uvc. And worked part time at a horse farm. Tab Hunter was doing the Dinner Theater, starring in "Here Lies Jeremy Troy. His horse Kidd was boarded at the farm in which I worked. I got to see him everyday, talked to him alot. Watched him perform. And always thought he was a greatest gentleman. I was about 22years old, he was in his late fifties or early sixties. Nice man!

The first time I saw T.H. (in a magazine) he was so handsome I could hardly catch my breath. I was about 12 years old. LOL. I'm sure I would have embarrassed myself if I had met him in person.

And if that day arrives, society will then be deprived of much creative works. Nothing creates the passion and charisma like inner torment. We have already, in my opinion, endured a famine of rich, original movies, books, songs, etc., (they’ve even resorted to making remakes of remakes) because of the creature comforts afforded to us by discoveries in science and inventions of household appliances that have enabled such comfortable lives, comforts our ancestors could never imagine; again, in my opinion.

Who could ever forget "Lust in the Dust?" "He rode the west. She rode the rest. Together they ravished the town." Ah, to be a college student again!
"Lust in the Dust" was not a John Waters film, of course, but had the same type of humor and Divine! And it was truly hysterical!
They also were in Polyester together. Divine and Tab made such a great couple. Too bad it didn't last.
What an incredible and handsome star! It all becoming fruitful at last. After the turmoils, he simply deserve so many happy years with his love life afterwards
He was dreamy, indeed and a very pleasant gentleman in real life. Brilliantly funny and evil in Polyester (1981). It's a shame there isn't more of a back catalogue of work especially during Tab's later years I'm sure though, he had himself a wonderful life until his unexpected death. Thank you for uploading 🎈🌈
I met him at a meet & greet event , he was even more stunning in person , very warm inviting and affectionate, he gave me a hug when greeting and gave me his full attention with lovely conversation no rush, glad I have pictures of that memorable day, r.i.p handsome Tab

I find it interesting that even though you ask why would his agent ruin Tab’s career you don’t disclose the most likely scenario. Tab had fired his agent Henry Willson, so this was payback from Willson. The actor that Willson outed to Confidential was Rory Calhoun (prison record) this to keep the magazine from going after Rock Hudson.
You should do a video on Henry Willson, a Hollywood agent that discovered many of the young male actors in the 1940s and 1950s, Sadly, many of the actors left him to go with agents from more prestigious agents with more clout and got them better roles. There was a biography written on him .Sadly ,Willson was gay and it hurt his career so he died tragically.
He is played by Jim Parsons in the Netflix limited series ‘Hollywood.’

I remember seeing him in " Island of Desire" & thought that he seemed a bit unprofessional, but never realized that he was only 18 or 19 at the time! After that, he got much better in acting!
He was able to retain his youthful good looks throughout his 20',30's'40's & 50's! Unfortunately, his acting range did not expand past the "young man roles"! R.I.P. Tab!

I am sorry you omitted Norman Lear's contributions to Tab's career. Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and Forever Fernwood helped him along at a difficult time.

I wish he would be my boyfriend during the 50s and 60s but I was born in the 80s. When his film - documentary came out in 2005 and his book, I fell in love with him because I never heard of him. I love his films and his book. R. I. P. Tab Hunter, my ideal boyfriend which I can't find in this days.

Tab and Divine - Great pair. Also Tab did a week on Match Game in '79ish. He should have done more game shows.
Don't forget the chemistry between Lainie Kazan who played Marguerita Ventura and Tab Hunter in Lust In the Dust. Those three really tore up the scenery in the movie Lust In The Dust, Divine, Lainie Kazan and Tab Hunter.

Something I never understood - they hired Tab Hunter for Damn Yankees and paid well for him. This is a man known as 'the America Adonis' and this is a movie with numerous scenes in locker rooms etc. yet not once in the movie do they show Tab with even his SHIRT off. They do have a scene of Ray Walston dancing around in his jockey shorts - a sight I could live without.

I used to see his movies in Mexico when I was a teenager and I loved his films. Those were the times, with Suzanne Phleshette and the likes of them. I'm speaking in the 60's.

@violamateo Yes, in the Tab Hunter Amazon documentary, the way Wilson is mentioned comes across as him being kind of a predator by taking advantage of young good-looking men looking to become actors. He must've come across as creepy but many young actors were pretty desperate..sad and so typical of Hollywood especially in those days.
the studios knew and people he worked with knew when you talk to actors they will tell you it was hell always living a double life and as one actor told me we lived in an under ground society so lets not forget what they went through may 2021

I had no idea he passed away.
He wrote a best-selling memoir which became an award-winning documentary so it's possible there are more details available. But, yes, I think the all-male pajama parties may have had a few of the pajamas tossed on the floor.
@@thorr18BEMI know from reading histories of that era, police would raid gatherings of men or women - even if all were decently dressed. So some parties would included gay men and lesbians together to be able to defend against those raids.

In the 80's I rented Lust in the dust, and my mom started saying "That's Tab Hunter, That's Tab Hunter" I had no clue who he was. Guess my mom really liked him back in the day. My folks were both born in the 20's. They both loved the film.

MJ Belle, one of the two, can't remember which now, told on a talk show how they ran across each other in a European airport while both were going to work in two separate foreign produced movies
After conversing a while they discussed how so many people got them confused.
So they decided to do the other's acting role and not tell the movie companies. Supposedly they pulled it off without those firms ever knowing.

Hi Age of Vintage, how are you going? This is a fabulous look into the life of Tab Hunter. Known for his blonde clean cut good looks, he appeared in more than 40 film's, & was a well known Hollywood star & heartthrob of the 1950s & 1960s. His tanned fabulous physique, was certainly a drawcard for Hollywood's leading ladies. Among his film credits include Battle Cry 1955, The Girl he Left Behind in 1956, Gunmans Walk in 1958, & Damn Yankees in 1958. He also had a music career in the late 1950s with the song Young Love, which was number 1 in the USA for 6 weeks. He had publicised fictitious romances with Debbie Reynolds & his great friend Natalie Wood, however they were just cover ups as Hunter was a gay man. He had a few romances, before settling down with his long time partner/spouse, Film Producer Allan Glaser. On July 8th 2018, 3 days before his 87th Birthday, Tab Hunter passed away from a cardiac arrest related to deep vein thrombosis. From what my parents --------both separately--------told me about Hollywood in the 30's, 40's, & 50's, learning just which actors were HETERO---was the real challenge ! So many men were gay, learning the straight dudes was the real game.
In Hollywood books plenty of young stars were playing both sides of the field.
Evidently pajama parties in the sense they use it here are sleepovers where a number of scantily clad gay men cavort, have fun and maybe get a little sleep in.

Tab, as Montgomery Clift, was a very object of desire for many many women but, in the secret, for many many men also. He was the incarnation of the male handsomeness. Anthony Perkins was very stupid and cruel with the sensible Tab.
I'm pushing 80, but well remember seeing my teenage " hero/heartthrob " in person. I was a shy 16 who loved horses and thought Tab Hunter was super. I happened to see him at a horse show in Indio, Ca. He was dressed ready to show western style, holding his horse and talking to another man. I quietly walked up to the horse's shoulder while it was nibbling the grass several feet away from him to pet it when he saw me. He screamed at me for touching his horse like a kid throwing a tantrum. Several others were standing there and I was crushed and humiliated beyond words. I later groomed for two different show horse barns and never once was anyone told in a loud voice, let alone screamed at, not to touch any of the horses. He could have told me calmly, quietly and in a kind adult manner, but chose to be mean and dramatic in front of 8 or 10 people. I have never looked at him since as anything other than a nasty/hateful poor excuse for a human because his action was so unnecessary and cruel.

Do you get the impression that there was a hell of a casting couch in Hollywood that controlled who would be brought in to Hollywood?
So weird that going to a pajama party would be devastating. Wasn’t one of the big musicals of the era called, “The Pajama Game”, and weren’t themed costumes parties all the rage at the time? As for a “suspiciously all male party”, well, hmmm, of course it was, but, wasn’t it true that this could apply to the all male military-at-sea forces inc., the Coast Guard? I mean, no women in those days! Not to downplay the homophobia, which was lethal, and which I was still suffering until the mid-Bush era, and I was not even born until 1963, and suffering discrimination for any reason just hurts so very much, but you just have to get on with it. Betrayal by those you trust, like Tab Hunter’s agent for Tab, was an ever present threat and danger we all lived with.
Does anyone remember his T.V. show? I do. I have an autograped picture.
Arguable one of the finest actors of the era, his looks were a handicap.

I am so tired of people making excuses for famous people's bad behavior. I have came across famous people here and there in my life and I know of people who have met numerous famous people. Maybe since I live in California these encounters with the famous make it more possible instead of living else where I guess. I may have a very bad day ,but I have never in the least lashed out at them and swear at them calling them names. If these were regular people, they would get socked in the face. I have blew up at people once in a while in the past becuase they were horrible to me and I didn't do anything to them. I expect to be treated at least with some rational behavior. Don't put up with it just becuase they are famous.
It should. Not be like that but it is. If we don’t like it, we should not follow their careers with any scrutiny.

Don't be so sure of that,
If nothing else, UA-cam has made it easier for generations of people to connect with actors and singers in way that was not available to this extent just a few years ago.
@@williamlynnroden only people of that generation watch. Don't watch many movies from my generation. Those people are deceased and mostly forgotten. Everything goes away eventually.

I came to this video after WML
What's My Line was a panel show that ran 1950-1967 so it was over before I was born, it had 100s of famous people from many walks of life on.
I am amazed at the number of comments from the 12-30 year old crowd that "discovered" the WML channel after a mention was made in someone's video or a movie/Tv reference.
People will find their own interests with platforms like UA-cam making it so much easier for them.
Haven't you ever wondered about a person on a program then UA-camd what else came up?
To me, that is why I love UA-cam so much!
