This brings back my young adult days when I ran my 12a bridgeport at hillclimbs…worst thing ever when I sold it…I too aspire to be ripping an Rx2 in my 70’s….awesome video ❤
This is the very same Wayne Rogerson that raced an RX-2 at Bathurst back in the day. From memory he won his class at least once & all these years later, he is still ringing that rotary's neck for all it's worth. Not bad for 76 years young.
Can't run through the water jackets, it's illegal in the category and all the engines are sealed by a scrutineer during assembly. You can still fit as big port in there and the little 12A's like rpm.
If I ever grow up I'm going to be like this dude but I will be brapping rings around every car in the field in my rx3 coupe and pissing off my fpv pooshoot Ute cause I don't tow a caravan. Remember 15 yrs ago at Mallala race track open class, two cars would embarrass the field of cars, v8's would nearly catch these cars on the straights, but through the bends no hope in hell, these two cars were gone, a orange r100 and Datsun 1200 coupe both with 13b turbos. Rotors are the bomb, just look at le mans rotors disgraced the field of try hard race cars, go the rotor 🤙💪👊😎
Old mate still has sharp reflexes, catching/correcting understeer and oversteer immediately. Good job Wayne! Hope you have lots more years of racing in the future.👍
Is that th3 same Wayne Roberson who raced a white Falcon at Oran Park? Lifting wheels. Brakes glowing on fire red? Crazy duels with Barry Sharpe and his Jag? He inspired me to race a Sports Sedan. Mazda too. Albeit with 6.0L Chev power. Go Wayne, BP Oran Park kid here
I was in the same class a st george tech with Wayne very smart fella started off with the old Bobby Morris 2 door falcon and was very quick a great talent. I feel it was somebody loss that he was not picked to race in the main game at the time.
Great video and what a great little steerer he is at 76 years young! I'd love to know what that RX2 is worth today, and at the same, I know I would be crying into my beer if I found out! Cheers mate...
He sure is! These little cars from R100 through to RX4 are making big money now. I just happen to have an Nc RX2 racer just like this but in a sedan, yet to race it though.
I sold my S1 RX-2 Sedan for $2,250 so let's not remind me.... It's changed hands a few times since I owned it and it's now back to being a full race car. I did end up buying the last registered FD RX-7 sold by a Mazda dealer in Australia. Won't be selling it in a hurry. An SP RX-7 just sold for $166,000 and there's been a number of FDs selling for $80,000+ recently. Turned out to be a good investment when I bought it in 2011.
impressive Mazda . to have them race a 8v l was questioning the possibility how silly that is . the Mazda is really in there for the race and matching the v8 fairly . it must be to the weight of the Mazda and power ratio ... I was wondering what they did to the engine ??? the Mazda is neat and tidy and has full interior to be noted i think a car looks that be bit more nicer with all interior that car could be driven on the road and then raced on the weekend in a event ..don't under estimate the mighty little Mazda pocket rocket .
Yes, cappella was an earlier version of the RX2. Cappella cars had one head light, where as an RX2 had twin round head light's, at least in NZ anyway. They were actually quite different.
The single rectangle headlight version represented the Series 1 RX-2 which also had the vents in the bonnet. The headlights then went twin round in Series 2 and eventually the front end got pointy and rear 'dog bone' tail lights for the Series 3.
Another cheat car. The RX2 these days runs away from XU1's in historic racing. And these days the RX2 battles it out with the fastest of the Mustangs. It's bullshit. It totally rewrites history and (IMO) spoils the memories. Look, good luck to hom being 76 and enjoying his racing. But running ceramic coated parts and a 12,000 rpm redline has got NOTHING in common with the experience of racing an R100 or RE2 in 1970 or 1971 or 1972 or 1973 or 1974.... you get the picture. Even the Stuyvesant factory RX-7's in the mid-1980's didn't have that technology and had only just crept up to that redline. This must surely annoy the 6-cylinder guys and most of the V8 guys. It's a rort and it's a shame in my opinion. Our friend should enjoy his racing - God bless him - but he should be battling it out with mid-field XU-1's - and that's even stretching the history.

RIP. speed has never killed anyone. its the sudden stop that gets you . race in peace
Love the fact its still got the factory radio, clock, and the cigarette lighter socket still works. Nice drive.
The little red car , yes I can !
Legends 👏👏👏

Like it ? I love it.
Mazda's, Stangs and Toranas, all totally different and sharing the same track. THATS RACING!
Love your work Wayne. Now that's got to keep you young, what a buzz to watch you in action! Thanks for the video Glenn!
That was awesome 👏. Thanks for sharing
👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
Had one back in the day wish I still had it now
Me too, everyone laughed at me
Revs pretty good for a "Bridgeport".. J-port through the water jacket me thinks ;-)

Great video, thanks for putting it together. Wayne is a great guy to talk to and this is a great car.
When will i get to drive this Wayne

It sure is! The same Wayne Rogerson. The man is a legend, and an absolute gentleman to boot!
Impressive race awesome rx 2
Being left behind by everything!

Beautiful, smooth driving.
Wow love how these guys in their classic race cars are not scared to sit with inches to spare on the corners
Man I love that buzzing sound!👌🥰👍 music to my ears 👂
So would these guys be running RX-7 12A engines?
Basically yes, the single distributor combo with current housings. (If you can find them!)
Wayne you area legend mate
Very cool............................................... 👌
redline on a rotary is more of a suggestion than a rule.....
Such an awesome feeling redlining a rotary, Great video.
Don’t “lug” the engine below 6000 rpm!
hi Glenn, another good one. catch you soon. CT
Excellent to watch ! These classic race guys don’t hold back !
Epic stuff Glenn! Kudos to all the drivers. 👍

@@GlennEverittMasterofMachines Do you still have the XY?

That was fantastic
I like how you can hear that yellow mustang roar over the screaming rotary
Very cool.
Good job mate doin great 👍😃
Great vid bud

Solid race
Some of those would have had twice the horsepower but d definitely not twice as fast..amazing engines...
Gee I hope I can drive half as good as that when in my seventies!!! Great viewing
i owned half a dozen of these things when they were worth bugger all lots of fun
Had 2 RX2s should have kept them BUGGER still the best sounding motor
Milk and Juice only comes in 2L but still giving V8s a run at 10k rpm....ridiculous. Rotaries just dont have the durability as the big boys (usually)
It's the opposite way around these days, a well built rotary is ultra reliable. :-)
@@GlennEverittMasterofMachines Wayne ran the same motor for 9 yrs
I"m in CHayse's grade at school
It's not a motor if it ain't a rotor
Great tussle
The Capella badge on the glove box leads me to believe that this used to be a piston car? Or did they actually badge these Capella RE in OZ?

Tad more oomph and he would of had that Mustang.Good race
Exhilarating ..that Mustang must have been a Goa
