I’ve watched other flytying how tos and still feel totally horrible at it. You’re videos are the best AND MOST HELPFUL of all and the rest can now go away. Thanks for being such a wonderful instructor and also keeping it real. Makes me want to visit your shop

I'm retired now but I've been fly fishing most of my adult life and I've never tied a fly (sad). Recently i got a few vises, some tools and some 'vintage organics' and some synthetic materials and I'm going to try and master the "elongated sausage" technique (wink, from Pt.1). Thank you for your patience, expertise and good humor with all things fly. Best, e

Look dude! You are the one that explains everything. I have yet to tie a single fly. It's been frustrating up to this point.

Give it a whirl! It's meant to release stress, not cause it :)

Paralysis of analysis, my friend. I do it all the time. I think it to death, and never even get started. I'm about to tie my first fly after watching this and two or three other videos. I got the materials I need to tie one pattern I'm interested in (dude is calling it a Jack Daniels fly, and the only place I can find it is in New Zealand, so I'm going to tie it myself!): thread, feathers, beads, hooks and basic equipment. I will end up with enough materials to tie probably 50 of these, and I'll just jump in and learn and make adjustments/improvements as I go.
      good luck!

You asked for comments regarding quality of the video, so here's mine.
I'm fascinated with fly tying. I don't fly fish, my husband does, but I LOVE looking at the flies, and I'm a crafter anyway, so this kind of craft is really up my alley. Lol My father in law just got me a fly tying kit to test the waters, and Admittingly, I know NOTHING about tying flies, but I AM a crafter, so picking this up shouldn't be a problem.
I found you while trying to jump in the water tonight and figure some of this out, before I even put a hook in the vice, and I've already subscribed. Lol your first video in this series goes through the tools, and that all made sense. This one is watching some of those tools in action. Just what I needed. Your instruction is clear, and you don't yammer on more than needed. The close ups are nice. All around good video for this kind of thing. Kudos.

There is a lot of great flytyers that have never flyfished. The art of flytying can definitely be enjoyed separately :)

@@NordicAnglers I have a feeling I'm going to find a fly rod in my future. Lol my husband REALLY wants me to start, and I've caught a few trout on his, I've just used a spinning reel all my life, so that's what I'm used to. Until then, I'm just absorbing as much as I can about this fly tying thing, (theres SO MUCH lol) and trying to figure out exactly what elements my husband needs in a fly to fish where we do, and then putting them all together and making them work. I'm having a ball. Lol I appreciate you giving me a thimb in the right direction!

It’s been a very long time since I last tied flies. My kids were toddlers when I set the hobby aside. The refresher course is great and I especially like your demeanor. Thank you. Side note… I never could fathom or master the use of a whip finisher. Always had to use the 2 finger method. Wonder if my brain is broken. TY again…

Hi I literally found your channel today having started to look at fly tying and fishing got to say great content very well explained.
I have not gone through all the videos yet but will be looking for information on streamers because pike are plentiful in yakutia as are the bigger trout.
And as they say at home in Ireland fair play.
    Regards
    Niall
