I am told that this was the very first gig for DGD. Johnny was basically making up lyrics, and Drew, the fill-in screamer... don't know what the heck he was screaming.
God this video means so much now. Tim's death, Jonnys intense amount of scandals, etc. Yet, they're still keeping the flame alive just like you. To whoever is watching this, thank you for keeping this band alive. Thank you for sharing this experience with me. I hope you have a wonderful life.
For all those people who aren't as informed. This IS Dance Gavin Dance, That Is Jonny Craig and this is there first show ever. Jon mess was in the band but got sick and this dude filled in for the gig one time only. These lyrics are improvised completely because lyrics weren't even written for these songs yet. These are all pre production version of songs are demos of songs that were eventually used on WISIRO. No if and or buts about these are the facts.
Sheyla Sotelo same, but unfortunately drugs have been in his life since his early teen years, ever since his first band he was in (westerhalt age 15) his upbringing really fucked him up. I feel for the guy bc he is one of the most naturally talented vocalists to ever walk this earth.
jay hundley I can’t read your full comment but yes I agree. I remember I wrote to him when I was 15. I’ve been a fan for a while. I can’t listen to his music anymore because I don’t want to support/encourage him.
Eduardo García I love Tilian but they scored TONS with Jonny. Everytime I think of him I get so sad and happy. Dude was a legend but people will never know it like it was supposed to be
Gates boy bro I was thinking the same thing, I was like I wonder what Jonny thinks about at night when people tag him in DGD covers and people still buy the vinyls and tag him. Lol Emarosa and slaves were good bands for him but DGD is what he known for and it’s gone lol
Ryan Johnson it seems that he has his stuff together with the new kid and such, his genre now is focusing more on the R&B side of things which could land him a new following and a somewhat revamped restart if you will. I personally think the rock Jonny is great but aye I’m a fan regardless lol
For anyone wondering, this is burning down the nicotine armoire from DGD's EP whatever i say is royal ocean. Obviously it sounds a bit different here than the one on the EP. Probably my favorite song by them! A true masterpiece!
Jonny's first band was westerHALTS. One of their songs was called change, leisure, and retirement. Jonny was only 15 years old when he was in that band. Matt mingus the drummer is only 16 in this video.
I've never seen Johnny Craig with the emo/skater haircut. His hair is dark but his beard is ginger lmao. This is gold. A true treasure, glad you posted this.
+Will L. Check My instagram @Bleachismybreastfriend because I have the guitar. I saw them at the 10 year anniversary tour and Will Swan actually signed it!
American Metal Head I will openly admit I do not like Jonny’s era for the simple fact that he keeps getting second chances and screwing up. Had fixed his issues early on I would say still say Kurt first but I would put Jonny over Tillian. I’ve just always been a fan of Kurt as a lyricist even if Jonny is honestly has a better voice. The thing with Tillian’s era is it’s gotten more pop sounding. Still a great band and Mothership is top tier DGD I just think they’re starting to lose their DGD sound I guess? Especially with the latest album which I have mixed feelings on.
Jon Doe I 100% agree with you on what you said about the Tilian era. I think Mothership is their 3rd best album (DTBM 1 and 2 are their best imo). But the rest is a lot more poppy than their previous material. I definitely think they have lost a thing about them. I still absolutely love them, but I dont know how I feel about their progression with Tilian. Take Strawberry’s Wake for example, I love that song, but is that something they would’ve made with Kurt Travis or Johnny Craig? No. I feel like Tilian’s kinda just turning the band into what his solo project is, which is very poppy. They’re definitely not post hardcore anymore, and that’s a shame because their best material came when they were. I have mixed feelings on the last album too, I loved Prisoner, Strawberry’s Wake was good, other than that... meh. I really hope they impress more with future releases because the last few (except Mothership) have been pretty lackluster by DGD standards.
Hard to believe he was only what 16-17 here? Listen to westerHALT, Jonny’s first band, he was 15 and he sounds just like this. Fucking 15 singing better than 99.9% of all singers world wide.
I just saw dgd a few nights ago, I had seen them in the very early days in my teens when downtown battle mountain was fairly new and then again when happiness was new. Their first ep was amazing have had that through the self titled on repeat lately. Good times
1:00-1:16 those notes he hits are ridiculous and so full of soul.. and that bassline with the drums kicking in just right, gives you time to feel the groove, they shoulda left it like that on the official version of bdtna. "everybody get down..." haha
Omg, I know this song! Attack of the Dashing Young and Bold. It's so hard to find this song nowadays. Still sounds good even though they are just sort of jamming.
true, BUT, that's only because we were literally wearing girl pants back then. but Jon mess apparently never bought into trends. rocking those Walmart wranglers
Before Jonny even had done the EP version. Different melodies(although similar) and completely different lyrics. I know Jonny is famous for mumble lyrics too.
Cooshna Yeshen I saw him at chain fest in Cali not to long ago he's still big but he's gotten alot slimmer, I talked to him about that. He was all awkward about it but he's such a nice and great guy!
Jonny's voice was so clear back then, he could hit them high notes super pretty high without the horrible scratchyness he has now......... Sad he can't do it anymore. :/
the instruments are still super on point even back then
That's how you recognize world class musicians.
Swancore on point
Drummer is slacking a bit 🥲

I wish so badly that jonny could go back in time to take a different route and not choose drugs. He is so talented.

This is no joke one of the best live bass tones I’ve ever heard in my life. And I’m almost 40.
1:16 The FUNK
will swan to thank for that one
"Everyone get down"
No it's Eric Lodge to thank for the funky bass tone@@demonaddicted
The thumbnail is epic
🤣🤣🤣
Man , this is straight chills . When this all came about I was just going into middle school lmao
I was about to start kindergarden when this show happened, crazy
I’m 25 and have been listening to them since high school. Crazy to think they were around 10 years before I graduated 😬
Jonny's first band was westerHALTS. One of their songs was called change, leisure, and retirement. Jonny was only 15 years old when he was in that band. Matt mingus the drummer is only 16 in this video.
fking amazing
Holy shit 16 with that skills on the drums? Mad respect

this is pretty much as good as people this young can possibly be, a maze.
Randolph G.S. Amaya isn’t it beautiful? The crowd had no clue what they were in for this night lol...
htmlxcoreable absolutely & I still want to hear the album version of this
It’s not but you can keep judging young ones with talent
I don't remember that Burning Down The Nicotine Armoire was like that ahahahahaha I still love those guys lml
Jesus this is amazing. Thank God this will live forever
You know how old this is? This is so old that Jonny Craig doesn't even have his tattoo under his left eye.
August 2005

Jon Mess recorded the original demo of this tho. a true DGD fan knows that's their best version.

whats the name of the recording?
Randolph G.S. Amaya, really though.

After 10 + years still my fav band. Best with Johnny.
MrSupastyles couldn’t agree more. Jonny>Kurt>tillan
Kurt > Tillian > Jonny. Jonny may have a great voice but talent doesn’t excuse being a shitty person.
Jon Doe but if we’re talking just music, nothing touches DTBM I&II. Johnny Craig has just got “it”, and those albums are pure perfection
American Metal Head I will openly admit I do not like Jonny’s era for the simple fact that he keeps getting second chances and screwing up. The progression from here to where they are now is insane lol

Dude in the crowd originated the "bruh" trend
i hate it when people say bruh, but I always say it in sync with the dude from this video, best intro
Matt Mingus = Most solid drummer of the 21st century
That Start-up Butt-clench... It's almost hypnotic... I can't stop watching it XD

Lol probably.
I heard a very early bruh in the beginning of the video. And not surfer brah but a very 2018 bruh
