Fun Fakt... Outside the United States... Robbie Williams has been the biggest selling solo artist since the year 2000. Not even Eminem can touch him. He is also very smart for staying away from America, because we are not as loyal as fans in other countries.

He released Candy from the Take the Crown Album to the USA on ITunes. I asked him and so did several Americans on his blog. It is available here.I know about his small venues and tours in America. He just didn't catch on. Now he would never do it because the US is big to tour and the money is not worth it. That is why so many Americans go to Europe and tour. The money is better. Escapology was also released in the U.S. but didn't do well reaching 43 on the billboards.
That's one of the great mysteries in pop music, why the Americans didn't show much interest in Robbie while the rest of the world was so enthusiastic on him. Was it his accent, his British humour, was his musical style not trendy in America, is there a kind of nationalism in the American music culture nowadays? Maybe he should make a duet with Lady Gaga! A new version of his song "Break America", with one of his greatest American fans, 50Cent (no yoke!), on a RAP-part at Saturday-Night-Live!
He's always such a great guest....SO funny, ironic, inquisitive. However, I didn't think this was a strong performance by him AND, btw. I LOVE Rob. I just felt he would have served himself better by playing the meaning of this song very straight. Rob's a phenomenal performer but he he was in and out with the audience and looking over at Jay. This diffused his performance, I felt.. However, Americans have truly missed out on this honest, sensitive, funny, fantastic singer/songwriter.
Here is why Robbie didn't get popular in the US: 1) Little to no radio airplay in the country. Live show performances only go so far. 2) He did not have the legacy of Take That to leverage in the US since they were hardly promoted in the US 3) American's "pop music"scene was practically dead. In 1999, there was only place for Britney spears, boybands and a LOT of rap. Once again, terrestrial radio can be blamed for this. 4) Robbie's ego (at the time) was not commensurate with the talent.
Robbie did in fact ( like british legend Cathy Dennis ) have four huge US Top Ten hits with ”Angels”, ”Rock DJ” and ”Millenium” as well as with Take That ”Back For Good”
I discovered Rob in a weird way. I follow a German violinist named David Garrett. and have met a few girls over seas in Germany where David is from. Look up where you see Jay Leno and Angelina Jolie..That is the interview with him singing it also, it's 7 minutes long. I like the one with Katie Couric and Robbie giving Simon Cowell a lap dance. That was funny.
Just out of curiosity, what was the first song of his you heard? His first solo efforts did nothing for me either. But I have to admit I was SOLD by "No Regrets". I agree about the dancing.
You simply don't seem to understand that singing is not only to hit always the right notes. Bob Dylan wrote his own songs and KNEW what he was singing. And his kind of singing fitted to his songs. Billy Corgan of the "Smashing Pumpkins" had a unique voice that took getting used to but was also accepted to be right for their songs. If you want to go on and on to praise Adam Lambert as a musical genius: don't bug people to get interested in him by dissing their opinion upon Robbie Williams!
It’s not a surprise he’s not big here in the US. American music is crap compared to this! We’ve become a degenerate country that loves absolute filth and rot over pure talent and beauty RW you are amazing!
I can also recommend Millenium on Letterman & Delovely on Leno, also 2 making of vids from RWVideos - 'The Wedding Singer' & 'Everythings here, there & everywhere' (played wedding singer in the movie Delovely. Also Feel on Craig Kilborn 3parts.
I think because he doesn't think too many U.S. citizens have ever heard of him, it would have been a waste of money. The album is really good, it has an U2 sound which Americans would have loved. He tried to conquer America and he didn't catch on. I think he had bad promoting and management when he was younger. Now at 38 he probably would not catch on. The music is so different now.
has no one noticed the little farting noise at 5:14??? omg i rewinded like ten times, i love robbie, AND angelina, two of my favorite people in one interview! even though he hasnt "broken" america, i live in LA and im probably the BIGGEST fan here
I saw this show when it first aired. Unfortunately, to the U.S. audience he came off as kind of an arrogant ass (his performance is like he's at a concert filled with diehard fans). First impressions are important & this was not a good one. I've since learned this was the height of his drug dependence which I'm sure was a big part of the problem. He never really promoted himself here after this period as he liked having somewhere in the world to be anonymous & didn't need American money. His music is very slick pop/rock, but not really my style. However, I find him & his story interesting & am happy that he's turned his life around.
In the context of the time of this interview, I absolutely agree with you. It was absolutely ordinary at the time. He's no George Michael but that was the way the media was trying to position him. I'd at least give the album of Frank Sinatra covers a spin and then decide about his vocal abilities. If you still think his voice is not particularly noteworthy, then that's totally fair. And like you said, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion and personal preferences musically speaking.
@thespiangirl1 I must be his second greatest fan then! I just recently discovered him on youtbe and I feel the same way. He is so awesome and truely an addictive personality. I can watch and listen to his vidios for time on end!

Natural fucking treasure !❤️💖❤️
i didn't mean that as a negative thing... i personally think that he is an extraordinary performer!
He's such a wiseass! lol
Americans didn’t care for that.
But hes good at it. 😁
Just out of curiosity, what was the first song of his you heard? His first solo efforts did nothing for me either. But I have to admit I was SOLD by "No Regrets". I agree about the dancing.
Robbie,plzzzzzzzzz come to SERBIA..............
To me he didn't put the work in to break America, barely toured there and ignored it completely on his later tours
It’s not a surprise he’s not big here in the US. American music is crap compared to this! We’ve become a degenerate country that loves absolute filth and rot over pure talent and beauty
RW you are amazing!
I'll fight you on this one! I'm Rob's biggest fan in LA...LOL Glad to know I have some company!
If you want get him, check out Lemmy Kilmister.Though he'd deny it, they both got the Stoke on trent sense of humour.
Esse cara é o cara. Aquariano como eu . Sou do dia 14/2
has no one noticed the little farting noise at 5:14??? omg i rewinded like ten times, i love robbie, AND angelina, two of my favorite people in one interview! even though he hasnt "broken" america, i live in LA and im probably the BIGGEST fan here
I saw this show when it first aired.
Not his greatest proformance of Angels but Damm can he sing.
A Legend
He's such a wiseass! lol
Always was too real for the USA.
And like you said, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion and personal preferences musically speaking.
this is how it works hahaha Robbie
@tiagoguedestube the drummer.he was in the rw band since 1998 to 2008
yesssss, im glad there are fellow friendlies! how'd you discover him? and you live in los angeles, or a different city?
The drummer from oasis!
@thespiangirl1 I must be his second greatest fan then! I just recently discovered him on youtbe and I feel the same way. He is so awesome and truely an addictive personality. I can watch and listen to his vidios for time on end!
I saw millennium on Lettermand and De3lovely on Leno..I never noticed him on the wedding singer but I did see Craig Kilborn (the three parts. I stay up at night and watched late night talk shows.,are you from New York or L.A.?
Agree. Not one of his best performances, for whatever reasons. People in the US can and have seen past those things. He's no less incredible for it. Go Robbie Williams!
sorry 1999..I have the cassette..not cd..lol
La parola donazione è di robbie e vero
Shame his latest album wasnt released here in the US
Years later they still don’t like him of course.
One of uk treasures , upfront, never been the best vocalist but fuck me can he put on a show
Drugs
