I think this episode format is the best ever. Even better than podcast. Very calm, informative, and hands on. Just two men sharing knowledge. It’s like when you have a buddy that has some knowledge you don’t have and you ask him for help and he says “sure drop on by”.
After I don't know how many years of watching you this has to be one of your best videos yet. Not because Nick was on, which was great because you two played off each other well but because you covered so many things and came across so well.
Your voice is much more calm in this video than most others, which is nice. You also share a lot more knowledge in this video than most. I recommend you share calm tips in your regular videos as well.
Had so much fun listening to this! This was the Justin Rhodes I remembered from early videos, full of enthusiasm for the interactions of the land and the animals and crops. Thoroughly enjoyable!
The way that you explained the rotational grazing was by far the best I have heard yet. And I have read many books and watched many videos. But you really made it simple and doable. Just what is needed. I think we were on the right track but you broke it down to just the size that we needed. We are looking to get two cows. And this is the first that I have heard for this size operation! Thank you so much! And it was great to see Mr. Nick there too!
I had no idea who this man, Nick, was until I read the comments (an Aussie here) but I loved watching him with Justin . THIS was really interesting especially for any of the newcomers to farming animals. Now off to find out just who Nick Frietas is as a Pollie. And Mr Brown - right beside you throughout the visit........... YES!!!
I enjoyed watching two men that I have deep respect for, sharing the dreams of providing healthy food and living for their families! May God bless Nick and Justin's families and homesteads!
Justin, so amazing to see how big the kids are getting. So good to see how much you have grown as a farmer/homeateader. I really appreciate your gentle manner. Thanks for this chat with Nick. God bless you both.
❤absolutely LOVED this video! So full of practical info & tips! I learned SO much in just this hour! Thank you Justin for your sharing of hard learned knowledge! & luv Nick too - great guy!❤ God bless you both & your families❤
Great video! Great format! So much better than the recent jumbled videos. I learned so much! I would love to hear more about the sheep care. I would love to see more videos like this! Bravo!
Absolutely love Nick! His Tik Tok's are nothing short of magical and witty. Thanks for showing us more of his personal exploits in homesteading - very enjoyable!
I've been in a bad mood the past couple of weeks, depressed. It feels like I've been spinning my wheels trying to make this sort of life happen for me and my family because every time we got somewhere good something bad would happen and we'd be put back where we were. I feel like this video energized me a bit again, made me excited for the life I'm still desperately hoping to make.
You're getting through the hard stuff first. Work through these challenges and in the future, as things arise, you'll know you can handle it because you've gone through roadblocks before. You've got this!
Justin this was an amazing video listening to you teaching even though I’ve watched you for years was one video that had such an abundance of knowledge. Great job.
Hi from West Australia. This was a great video. Very informative. Even over here we are following your style of homesteading. I found Justin before Greg Judy or Joel Salatin..out climate is a lot different to yours but the principles still work the same. ❤❤
Been watching alot of you, nick, and salatin and have inspired me to get some laying hens to have a go at this. I have repurposed a shed a hold 24 laying hens, my meat birds and turkeys. 😊
This was an amazing video Justin!! I learned answers to so many questions I had. You are so knowledgeable! Really enjoyed Nick in this perspective as well. Thank you so much for letting this old lady hang out with you two men! Lol
This episode flew by because your guest Nick was comfortable with a camera and natural in conversation. I hope you told him to check out GoldShaw as he gets to see about the guard dogs and how Morgan feeds his pigs' recycled beer grains.
Justin, you had it right first : Properly managed, a com- post pile should easily reach 140°F, which breaks down all organic matter, including weed seeds.
Next time someone asks how much land is needed for a cow, Justin, remember the standard permaculture answer: IT DEPENDS On the quality of grass, of course. on grassland, you need 4 acres per cow, or 4 acres for each cow/calf combination .. if you can graze them on less, you are wasting good land growing beef .. Get sheep for your personal meat and dairy needs, and use your good soil for growing more than just grass. Hard to do when you already have cattle, but its easy to say "learn from my mistakes" instead of letting someone go on and make the exact same ones. This is more of an error on SMALL homesteads - ten acres and less - than on oversized acreages, where an extravagance like a cow on crop land doesn't bite into the homesteader's other, and arguably more vital needs. Now, I haven't physically inspected Nick's homestead, and so I could not advise him to graze two beef on two and a half acres of HIS grass - but I do know that Nick is not exactly the average homesteader, either - he can afford a few mistakes and extravagances that the average viewer can't. OK, back to watching .. how cool is it, you got Nick Freitas, my second favorite Virginian right after Patrick Henry, to stop by to visit your farm! (edit) Loved hearing Nick's Hog Hassles .. Pig is a powerful animal .. I don't know of anyone ever being eaten by their cows! "Something is going to die" Sounds like my mantra on livestock .. you have to be able to accept the realities of nature, and the extent of your responsibility. More Cattle, more Money .. but More Money, More Problems. Don't let your joy become your burden!
I love all these shelters Jason!!, chickencoop , chickshaw, cow stall , and grid fence for grazing! All perfect ways to start homestead . 🥰 love it. Is that a trail in sky there? I’m tired of whomever spray sky ! I can see shortage prob in news future. Gov nitrogen rules and sky trails less sun. May take toll.
This was so enjoyable to watch this. Steady and not just clip clip clip. Justin not counting down every minute till you have to get to the next project.
Nick Frietas is one of the few politicians left in America who actually values freedom and understands the importance of preserving our liberties.
100%
Amen!
Thomas Massie (R, KY) is another homesteading Rep.
❤just love this guy! We’ll both of them actually ❤
@@maryboonenberg2508 I just checked on him. Born in West Virginia, graduate of MIT? Does he have common sense?
I think this episode format is the best ever. Even better than podcast. Very calm, informative, and hands on. Just two men sharing knowledge. It’s like when you have a buddy that has some knowledge you don’t have and you ask him for help and he says “sure drop on by”.
Good point! We may try this kind of walk and talk format for future podcasts.
❤I think this was one of the best videos yet! SO packed full of useable info!❤ thank you! & luv u both Justin & Nick!❤
I came here to say this👆🏼! I love y’all’s videos but this video was certainly in my top 3!
Bandits Plus house quality like this. But I wish UA-cam would have more like this. I do like Austin funny clips now and than also.
Absolutely. I will watch for future hands on useable information. The day to day drama was too emotional.
After I don't know how many years of watching you this has to be one of your best videos yet. Not because Nick was on, which was great because you two played off each other well but because you covered so many things and came across so well.
I love seeing Gideon with you all the time Justin. He’s listening to everything you say, he’ll be quite the homesteader someday.
❤ I still get a laugh when he yells….GIDEOOOOOON!
Nick is awesome wish he would run for president.
How blessed you guys are to have Nick visit. He is one of my favorite American men, you too Justin! Real American men rock!
What is a non real man?😂😂😂

Yea this is a tour based video, not an everyday life video.
Had so much fun listening to this! This was the Justin Rhodes I remembered from early videos, full of enthusiasm for the interactions of the land and the animals and crops. Thoroughly enjoyable!
I’m still here.
The best video you’ve made in a while. Nice and slow with an abundance of information. Loved it. Thank you Justin
Thanks. Love to offer a different format from time to time when the opportunity arises :)
The collaboration I did not know I wanted or needed!
Best video in awhile by far love the long format

Nick is great. A man of integrity and wisdom.
YES, love his humor.
Nicks a cool dude! Hope more politicians recognize the value of permaculture and pasture based small farms across the nation!
IT IS ABOUT TO SLAP THE POLITICIANS ACROSS THE FACE SHORTLY HERE
I think Nick would be considered a Statesman.
Two of my biggest heroes. Thank you Justin for making this possible.
This video is your more down to earth info video.... like they used to be. Calm voice. One of my favorites this year

Loved this format. So informative for us beginners.
I WONDER WHY UA-cam DIDNT WANT ME TO SEE THIS.
im following both...
So neat to see a newb hearing it all. It’s like evangelization. It can become “old news” to us. But it’s still the amazing good news!

Thank God we still have politicians like Nick 🇺🇸👏👍
Can you imagine if all politicians brought this kind of candor and diversity from multiple parts of the country? Differences wouldn’t matter enough
