Sup, still crying? same :') Here you can read my thought process around the chapter, beware of spoilers! . . . . Gundham's execution may left me with so much sadness I'm so sick of my favorite characters dying lkhfglkfg but man was his chapter the BEST in the entire game! His plan was well-thought on, everything regarding the murder case was amazing and eccentric but what gets to me the most is his development in the game and his last words to his friends. In the first few chapters, he didn't really care much for anyone, understandably when ya look up his free time events, he has a very cynical view towards humanity "what can talk will betray you" oh and also when Twogami died all Gundham could say was "MY HELLHOUND EARRING" (which is still the funniest shit ever klfdhg) But as the game goes on, he started acting a little different and as CEO of Nekodam (who loves to overanalyze fight me) I interpret that he got oddly quiet ever since Nekomaru was shot with a bazooka. Gundham going into Chapter 3 trial even said, "I'm showing my serious side from now on' which he did! He became more observant in the trial. Going into Chapter 4, hoo boy where do i even start. He saw his friends starving, Hajime saying they should all just give up and starve to death, it struck with Gundham so much. So much that he started a murder plan, and there was no one else who would agree to it except Nekomaru. Who both wanted the same thing, which is their friends to stop starving. (that's hella gay ya two u-u) Hajime, Nekomaru, Chiaki just knew immediately that deep down Gundham just wanted the starving to stop amongst his friends which he always deflect as a "NO????? U H" Which we know it's bullshit. Yes, he would've just come out and said he killed Nekomaru to save trouble of the trial; but I think the reason he went along with it is because he wasn't gonna give up his own life just yet (because he has that whole speech of life being precious so to abandon it completely is an insult). So he decided he was going to put on the last show of playing villain. Also I think he also knew, he may not get away with it in the end, I mean he's not exactly a good liar but then again through the investigation and trial he led his friends in the right direction,, seemingly on purpose? I strongly believe that. Which is also why he said "YES BRILLIANT WELL DONE! I'M THE VILLAIN BEHIND THIS MURDER THE WHOLE TIME" He can say that all he wants but he's truly a soft hearted guy who claimed to be a lone wolf but has formed a genuine bond towards his classmates. Even though his execution is sad it's not as malicious as many of the other executions; I don't think going to heaven is so despair inducing, maybe he's annoyed but I think deep down he wouldn't mind especially if it means to see all the animals he have loved and rescued :') Also there's so much similarities to Celeste and Gundham's execution/last words (although I'd say Gundham is more selfless and Celeste is a better liar, more cynical of the situation rather than hopeful) but that's a whole other essay lkfhg Anyway that's my whole thought process !!
I have a slightly different interpretation of Gundham in the first few chapters. I believe that he was in fact trying very hard to make friends, but didn't want to come off as vulnerable. In Chapter 2, when Hajime and Kazuichi are going to the beach, if you talk to Gundham he gets jealous that they didn't invite him, but instead of just tagging along with them he resorts to the "I didn't want to go anyway!" attitude, in hopes that it'll make them invite him (it doesn't work). I also like to believe that he did actually care a lot about Twogami's murder, given his beliefs about life, but he used the lost earring as an excuse to avoid investigating the dead body (which is understandable). He was very surprised and happy when he found out that he was actually useful for the investigation. Gundham is my favorite Danganronpa character hands down. Everything about him is so charming and beautiful.
Personally I was under the impression that he pretended to be the villain because he didn't want anyone to be sad over his incoming death. He guided the group in the right path, acted weird and off-putting when they finally brought their suspicions towards him and he avoided talking about his motives so they'd hate him. He was fully ready to let the verdict fall and let the group be free without them knowing that he was sacrificing himself for them. But then Nagito went and insulted Nekomaru for dying like a chump and he couldn't take that. He had to protect Nekomaru's honor and so he immediately started fighting back, forcing the group to understand the sacrifice Nekomaru willingly went through, and in doing so made them understand his own motive as well. Also I think his spell during his execution was a distraction he provided Monokuma so he wouldn't think of killing his hamsters too. Make himself a big target, like he's casting a spell to make the stampede go away and make Monokuma focus his entire attention on him. Which is why he glances at his hamsters and smiles, content that he managed to protect them at least.
Here comes a ding dong bing bong fan! Oh no he wasn't a weird dork. That spell wasn't to protect himself. His dark devas of destruction were also in danger. The spell was a protection spell for them.
I love how Dan became Nagito in this scenario, because just imagining Nagito just yelling “HES GOING TO HEAVEN!” And “HES NOT JUST A WEIRD DORK!” Is too funny to pass on
Gundham: God, what is this blasphemy?! Where are the pits of hellfire I so desire?! God: Self sacrifice gets you a first class seat into Heaven, bro. Should read the Bible. Gundham: But, I-- God: Not too mention all the animals you not only helped find love as well as helped them live their best lives. Satan: I can't even argue for Purgatory. Enjoy paradise, goody-two-shoes. Gundham: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I really like the theory that says that the spell Gundham cast in the end wasn’t to protect him, it was to protect his hamsters Loved seeing this in your style, and I vividly remember Gundham’s execution bringing me to tears the first time I saw it :,) rip best boy
I have the feeling that it was a distraction, to make sure that Monokuma would only focus on him by making him think he was trying to protect himself from the stampede. I guess that would make it a protection spell for his hamsters (I mean Dark Devas), but without believing he was casting magic. Just manipulating Monokuma in doing what he wanted.
@@resileaf9501 That makes a lot of sense, actually, considering how Peko's execution went down when she was "at peace" with dying. Gundham didn't seem to mind too much either, so it makes sense he'd want to reduce the chance of something similar happening at the last second.
Doubt. Gundham moved the Divas out of the way at the start. Also remember what he said. It would be out of character for him to give up and not fight for his life till the very end. That’s why he didn’t confess his crime at the beginning of the trial. Gundham is always true to himself and even though he did want to help the others, he didn’t just want to give up and throw his life away. (Note: This is worded poorly as I have a very hard time explaining my thoughts without thinking for awhile so I might edit this.)
@@gontagokuhara5262 Nah, he didn't confess because he wanted the group to see him as a villain and an enemy to keep them from getting sad at his death. He purposefully guided them to find all the clues so they'd eventually figure out his guilt and when they finally started suspecting him, he gave a weak-ass defense ("I went to the bathroom") and refused to explain his motives until Nagito insulted Nekomaru. As far as the safety of the Devas go, they were on a small rocky outcroping in the open. They were out of the way of the stampede, but they were hardly in a safe position in which Monokuma would have been unable to touch them if he wanted to.
@@resileaf9501 He actually defended himself in the trial a lot and if it wasn’t for Fuyuhiko he would had an alibi which he planned on getting. For me, Gundham didn’t want the others to simply give up on life (same goes for Nekomaru) if he surrendered his easily he wouldn’t be setting a good example. I do agree that he was content dying as villain, but for me that shows how Gundham is always true to himself. Of course this just a difference in opinion and how we perceive the character. Honestly same, I've had to take breaks because of frustration before, but this was the only time so far I've had to walk away and process what happened.
It seems to be a running theme with these games to always make the most emotional death happen on the 4th case this is the only one in this game that made me cry and it was the same with the Sakura case in THH.
This is pretty late but SAME. Gundham's death made so unbelievably upset, I almost cried (or did actually cry it's been too long). But I continued moving forward through my sadness because HEY, I still had my best boi NAGITO who DEFINITELY won't die because he's a MAIN CHARACTER and main characters don't die, RIGHT? His bullcrap Luck and plot armor will SURELY hold strong until the end, RIGHT? Yeah... Needless to say, I needed to take a break after Chapter 5's Victim Reveal (and Chapter 5 as a whole). This game seriously hated me for killing my two favourite characters right after each other.
Personally, I think the magic circle he made was to protect the devas and not himself. Since they were so close to the entire event unfolding. He knew he couldn't escape execution himself, so he chose to save those closest to him, which were his hamsties.
His face also! He looked dead at the stampede, and showed no fear. He also looked to his devas and smiled, which I think was him thinking “it worked, they are safe”
Although I agree it was probably his goal, I don't think he expected to cast real magic, but rather wanted Monokuma to put his entire focus on him by making him think he was protecting himself with magic.
@@gontagokuhara5262 Eh, wouldn't call it safe. It was out of the way of the stampede, but it wasn't somewhere hidden that Monokuma couldn't reach if he wanted to.
Fun idea (idk if it’s a fact): his spell was to ensure the safety of his hampsters, who he gave to Sonia (not shown in the game, but I think in other media?) and she lives, so not just a weird dork lol
Goodbye Despair definitely has some of the saddest executions imo. It's also part of what makes the ch 3 execution so...jarring? Out of place? It's a bad execution anyway, but when you compare it to how heartbreaking the ones immediately before and after were, it looks even worse in comparison. And obviously ch 5 was super sad too, even ch 1 was sad when the motive was revealed and you remember that these characters are just kids, they're mentally 15.
All of the games have that one execution that just doesn't fit amongst the others. In 1 it's Ch. 2's and in 2 & V3 it's Ch. 3's. These executions just throw of the emotional impact of everything before it by basically making a joke out of those characters deaths, and it irks me to no end. It's just so jarring in comparison to the others with it's lack of seriousness. It insults both the characters and the player's emotional investment in the narrative by just going for a ridiculously silly, nonsensical death. S:
I think Mikan's bad execution is balanced out by the revelation shortly before she's killed that she's actually an insane weirdo who's just like Junko Enoshima (or her "beloved" as she calls her) in that they'll both doing anything to get off on there own despair. What I mean is with Peko's execution and with Gundam's there both characters that are easy to sympathize with but with Mikan she's literally just like Junko there's no rime or reason to what she does she lives for despair itself and if your someone who's actually able to sympathize with with a character like that you have to just like them which most people aren't.
@@nappyk96 I think that made it even worse tbh, bc they could have had her execution be a surgery gone, with the parts the remnants replaced on themselves being attached to Mikan, ending with a heart surgery where the replacement heart is all rotten or not even there, at which Mikan goes from ecstatic that she'll have Junko's heart when she dies to wide eyed and despairing. That'd give some foreshadowing of the remnants and symbolise how unhealthy the relationship was
@@nappyk96 But it's not balanced though. In case you forgot, Mikan was infected with the Despair Disease that reverted her back to her *brainwashed* personality. The Mikan we know through most of the game is the _real_ Mikan, not the brainwashed one. She's just as much a victim as the rest of the remnants here, which is why making her execution a joke is just plain insulting. Because of the disease, she doesn't even get to die as herself, she dies as someone she didn't even get a choice in being in the first place, and the execution making a mock of that is just ridiculous and _very_ unbalanced in comparison to the others in the game. It continues to irk me that people still seem to see Mikan as an awful person because of Chapter 3 when that version of her is one made against her will. It's like people want to ignore the facts just cause they don't like the character.
@@NekoEcho13 I know all that shit now having just wrapped up the despair arc but (unless your weird and experienced this series out of order) you didn't know that despair Mikan wasn't the real her and neither did I. What I said was from my perspective I had when I first played that part of the game before I watched the despair arc of the anime because in the end of case 3 they really make it sound like Mikan was always crazy and the disease just helped her remember. I know now having finished Goodbye Despair and seen the despair arc of the anime that she wasn't always like that but at the time I thought her lackluster execution was fine because I thought that's all she was.
This was the first time I ever cried at a video game. I was heartbroken as soon as I realized Gundham was guilty but officially broke when he started talking to the Devas before his execution. Such an amazing character. Awesome animatic! :)
This and the Sondham moments were my favorite in the entire series. If you ever animate some of the Sondham moments they joked about I'd be SO FUCKING HAPPY
I still will never get over your art style for gundham; be it his game look or your "hair down in a Tshirt" look he so cute. Also I felt so bad for Dan cuz he gets so attached to characters then he gets shocked or sad ;3;
When I saw his execution I started balling. He was my most favorite character so his motivation for the murder cut me deep. But him screaming "FUUUUCK! GOD DAMN IT" Had me cracking up so hard. So good 👌
Gundham’s execution broke me- it made me cry so much, It didn’t help that they put in a part of him going to heaven when he was talking about how he was going to hell
Oh my God this might be my favorite of your animations so far! Gundhams badassery, followed by getting knocked the fuck out, and then his frustration over going to heaven was so beautiful. The komahina was a delightful surprise, especially hearing Dan speak as Nagito, just holding the hamsters and sobbing. I look forward to these animations, your work always puts such a smile on my face. 💚
Everything about this is just so good!! I particularly love the reanimation of the execution. The expressions just add so much emotion and depth, and your art style is just super pleasing to look at too. Amazing work!!
I’ve seen danganronpa 2 like two times before watching the game grumps play through and Dan’s reaction was the one that made me CRY alongside him because i love Gundham sm too
Idk, somehow it doesn't feel that bad cause he's being carried by animals he cared for. He always claimed to be such an edgelord villain but deep down there has always been a soft spot that felt lonely.
My heart was pounding during the trial because i knew he was a blackened bc of the animatic. (I didn’t know what Danganronpa was). I started playing BECAUSE of your animatics! What have you done to meee
I adore your art! Every characters' expression is fantastic! Thank you for making this. This execution hurts but I'm so glad to see it where Dan and Arin turn into Nagito and Hajime as they witness the scene in awe and despair. I'm sure that anyone who sees this and was like "I don't know what Danganronpa is nor I care about spoilers" would be like "Okay now I have to see wtf is going on now" and it'll cycle back to here where we watch this animatic of best boi going to heaven. Let's all cry together. Beautiful work! Love it
Something I heard from someone was that his spell did actually work, he cast a protection spell on his four dark devas of destruction to make sure they didnt get harmed. Don't know if it's actually cannon, or a headcannon, but either way it makes my day
I love that so many people love gundham! I see a lot of gundham hate so it's nice to know that he's not just my favorite danganronpa character ❤ Also his trial and execution tore me apart
omg :D idk if it's the first time you drew nagito on this channel but it's the first time i see him in your art style and i love seeing my favorite character on favorite animator's style! but anyway, here are the tears again :c
I was so heartbroken by that episode, like it took about a week or so for me to recover. What’s worse was that the episode came out when I was still going to school, I had to do school work while recovering over a fictional characters’ death.
Took me the longest time to start watching their dingdangrunples gameplays but your animations made me check them out and I'm having a BLAST!! Thank you Hattey!! Also your art is LOVELY!!!
Hattey pls every video of yours that I've watched is literally perfect, the audios, your artstyle, your interpretation of the characters, everything is just perfect. Also this fits hajime and nagito rlly well pls 💀
If I hadn't been unfortunately spoiled that Gundham died before I actually saw it happen, I can guarantee I would've reacted the exact same way to his execution. I was so excited when you shared the progress pics of this, did not disappoint. 1000/10

Komahina looks so fantastic in your style! 😭💕 I can’t believe how well the grumps’ personalities fit with those two LOL
Ikr
I can’t stop laughing, especially when you chose Komaeda as a stand-in for Dan 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Especially the “OHH MY GOD!!!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh noooo, poor gundham honestly, I absolutely love your art style!!
GUNDHAM IS LITERALLY MY FAV CHARACTER OF ALL DANGANRONPA, THIS ONE HURT MAN
Dan's reaction to Gundham's execution was one of best moments since he loved Gundham so much during this whole playthrough. 🥲
Personally, I think the magic circle he made was to protect the devas and not himself. Since they were so close to the entire event unfolding. He knew he couldn't escape execution himself, so he chose to save those closest to him, which were his hamsties.
this cannon none can tell me other wise
His face also! He looked dead at the stampede, and showed no fear. He also looked to his devas and smiled, which I think was him thinking “it worked, they are safe”
Although I agree it was probably his goal, I don't think he expected to cast real magic, but rather wanted Monokuma to put his entire focus on him by making him think he was protecting himself with magic.
He already puts the Divas in a safe place at the start.
@@gontagokuhara5262 Eh, wouldn't call it safe. It was out of the way of the stampede, but it wasn't somewhere hidden that Monokuma couldn't reach if he wanted to.
dan as nagito and arin as hajime fits so fucking well
also I love literally everything about this animatic, your art is so gender
RIGHT??
YES I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE MY FAVORITES IN YOUR ART STYLE THIS IS SO GOOD THANK YOUTHANKYOU
Fun idea (idk if it’s a fact): his spell was to ensure the safety of his hampsters, who he gave to Sonia (not shown in the game, but I think in other media?) and she lives, so not just a weird dork lol
DUDE THE PART WHERE GUNDHAM DRAWS THE MAGIC CIRCLE IS SO WELL ANIMATED ITS INSANE AND THE CAMERA MOVEMENT JUST MADE IT EVEN BETTER AAHHHH
1:08 HIS LIMP BODY omfg 😭
I'm a simple woman, I see Game Grumps and Komahina, I click. 😌
same though-
Making Dan Nagito is so good bc it implies Nagito really admired Gundam beyond the talent thing and was so upset by his execution.
What makes this even sadder is to find out that Sonia decided to take it upon herself to watch the hamsters since the execution 🥺
Arin and Dan: "He's going to heaven! YEAH HE'S GOING TO HEAVEN!!!"
Gundham: *_"FUUUUUCK!!!!" D8
*”GOD DAMN THIS!”* D8
The most empathetic we’ll ever see Nagito
I absolutely ADORE the way you draw Koma and Hina 😭🫶
this looks fantastic but gosh this clip made me so sad when i first watched it 😭😭😭 HE WENT TO HEAVENN
Ahhh this is so beautiful, seeing Dan care about the game is the best
I felt Dan's sadness during Gundam's execution-- shit was brutal to my feelings 😭
I once heard a theory that the circle wasn’t a protection spell for him, but for his dark devas
I’m sobbing
0:26 the guy holding the hamsters looks so adorable here
Your facial expressions are wonderful and Gundham's reaction to going to heaven is going to live rent free in my mind for ages to come
This and the Sondham moments were my favorite in the entire series. If you ever animate some of the Sondham moments they joked about I'd be SO FUCKING HAPPY
Not exactly what you asked for but I think you’d love this clip if you haven’t seen it already: (1:54) ua-cam.com/video/oUAITLanKRs/v-deo.html
Dude. Screaming and crying and shidding and fardding over here 😭 What a masterpiece!
I love how sad and cute this animation is! Gundam is honestly my fav character!!! Fly High, Gundam
I REMEMBER THIS EPISODE- I CAN *F E E L* DAN'S PAIN
Top tier animation!! Definitely caught Danny's sadness perfectly with this one
I still will never get over your art style for gundham; be it his game look or your "hair down in a Tshirt" look he so cute. Also I felt so bad for Dan cuz he gets so attached to characters then he gets shocked or sad ;3;
The 'oh my god' when the cherubs (I think thats what they are) appeared is one of my favorite parts
When I saw his execution I started balling. He was my most favorite character so his motivation for the murder cut me deep. But him screaming "FUUUUCK! GOD DAMN IT" Had me cracking up so hard. So good 👌
This made me reevaluate my choices. Not only I wasn't a fan of Gundham until now, but the way you draw Nagito... let's just say it opened my eyes
Welcome to the Nagito cult, we have mental breakdowns about hope and despair every Tuesday and Saturday. 😌
I love how you made Dan Nagito and Arin Hajime
Gundham’s execution broke me- it made me cry so much, It didn’t help that they put in a part of him going to heaven when he was talking about how he was going to hell
The way to draw the Grumps is so handomly adorable bro
None of them ever present their evidence that Monokuma is the killer by putting them in that situation
Imagine if one of them actually died in danganronpa. It would be like mondo and taka all over again 😭
I’ve seen danganronpa 2 like two times before watching the game grumps play through and Dan’s reaction was the one that made me CRY alongside him because i love Gundham sm too
Awww Dan 🥹 His feels still get me until today, Dan is a pure boy
Tbh the idea of Gundham up in heaven screaming stuff like "I the demon lord shall rule over all animals!" cracks me the hell up.
I absolutely love this animatic, but there will be no greater disturbance to my life than red blood in Danganronpa.
Canon Nagito was just roasting everyone and bullying Hajime for being a Reserve Course student, but in this he’s just like “THIS IS SO SAD ;-;”
Taking Gundham to heaven was the worst punishment Monokuma could have given him
Idk, somehow it doesn't feel that bad cause he's being carried by animals he cared for.
Just beat danganronpa 2 for the first time last weekend and I had this same reaction at this part. My friends can confirm I WAS ugly crying 😭
"He wasn't just a weird dork!"
*Gundam gets run over to death*
"I think he was just a weird dork."
"Okay, maybe."
Love it
It's even sadder because before the elimination dan said "Hes definitely going to heaven" when gundam says he'll go to hell
Something I heard from someone was that his spell did actually work, he cast a protection spell on his four dark devas of destruction to make sure they didnt get harmed. Don't know if it's actually cannon, or a headcannon, but either way it makes my day
I love that so many people love gundham! I see a lot of gundham hate so it's nice to know that he's not just my favorite danganronpa character ❤
Also his trial and execution tore me apart
YEEEES I'm so happy to see Arin as Hajime and Danny as Komaeda. In my mind they have similar vibes, I always headcanon them like that.
omg :D idk if it's the first time you drew nagito on this channel but it's the first time i see him in your art style and i love seeing my favorite character on favorite animator's style! but anyway, here are the tears again :c
im with you on both fronts T_T
this is the cutest thing i have ever watched. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL DUDE!
I was so heartbroken by that episode, like it took about a week or so for me to recover. What’s worse was that the episode came out when I was still going to school, I had to do school work while recovering over a fictional characters’ death.
Me laughting and crying at the same time :
1:09 feels like something Hajime would say tbh nrgddhevshsjsh-
First of all that animation of gundhams exacution was AMAZING
You recreated his execution perfectly!
“FUUUUCK!” Even though that sadness is still there, that small joke just cut through the sadness like butter, it was so funny
I love all of your animations haha! I remember watching this scene with them for the first time and feeling devistated too lol
This was so heartbreaking and so well animated 🥺😭💙
Took me the longest time to start watching their dingdangrunples gameplays but your animations made me check them out and I'm having a BLAST!! Thank you Hattey!! Also your art is LOVELY!!!
the image of komaeda pointing at the animal angels going "OOOOH MY GOOOOD" is so fucking funny for some reason
"Open Sesame Pandemonium, I shal full Hell with true Hell!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!"
*Gets carried to Pet Heaven*
"I did not think this through-"
Actually sobbing rn ;;
Hattey pls every video of yours that I've watched is literally perfect, the audios, your artstyle, your interpretation of the characters, everything is just perfect. Also this fits hajime and nagito rlly well pls 💀
Oh Danny is gonna have a rough time what it comes to Gonta.
THIS WAS SO GOOD???!?!?!?? Oh my gosh the way you draw Gundham is wonderful, and the way the execution moved was awesome!!
This death gets even sadder when you learn that that circle he drew wasn't for him, he protected the hamsters.
That is the only execution in which i always cries. Gundhum i luv u 😭💗
Bro, I was crying too, he was my favorite 😭 I love seeing this in your style so much!
Love the art style it’s absolutely amazing
If I hadn't been unfortunately spoiled that Gundham died before I actually saw it happen, I can guarantee I would've reacted the exact same way to his execution.
I was so excited when you shared the progress pics of this, did not disappoint. 1000/10
This is fine
(Gundham speaks to the Dark Devas)
_FUUUUUUUUUCK_
I hope the grumps saw the thing where Gundham cast a protective spell on the devas and not himself
HOLY CRAP!! THAT ANIMATION IS SO GOOD!!
I still love “Oh he wasn’t just like a weird dork!” “I think he was just a weird dork.” “Oh okay maybe.”
I love how you draw them, this scene made me cry😭😭😭
This is such a masterpiece!!!! I love your art style so much and the way it pairs with the game grumps audio is just amazinggg 😆😆
Dan's reaction was my reaction, gundham was the beest
