God, people made it seem like taking a shotgun apart required a degree in thermo nuclear engineering. This is way easier than I thought. Thanks for keeping it simple and to the point Subscribed!
EXCELLENT!! Short and sweet and to the point, what you have done in under 6 minutes, takes other UA-camrs 30 to 60 minutes and they still don't get it as cleanly as you have, THANK YOU!!!
I just acquired my buddy's 590 that he thought I needed to replace the action slide tube assembly. I have no working knowledge of my Mossberg. I watched your tutorial and in matter of 10mins I was able to dissemble it and fix the action slide tube and put it all together. You are a Mossberg Saver!!! THANK YOU!!!
This video completely saved my ass this weekend. I went to install an oversized safety and when I removed the factory tamper proof screw, the safety mechanism fell into the receiver and I had to tear it down for the first time to get all of the parts - this video made it SUPER simple. Thank you!
I’m very impressed with this Video. We need more like it especially of the Mossberg 590 Shockwave. Lighting and ability to see the different steps clearly are most helpful.
Thank you, Thank you ! I have had a Mossberg 590 SP for three years and I have paid somone to clean it for me. I was able watch the video to disassemble and assemble my Mossberg. You are Great !
Thank you, sir, for your very helpful video. I watched it some time ago, before I purchased my Mossberg 590A1; and had to revisit it, today, after struggling last night, to reassemble my shotgun; which I purchased yesterday. The manual wasn't the worst I've read; but it's far from the best. Your videos gave me peace of mind, knowing that after a lot of trial and error; I actually did put it back together properly. Again, I appreciate you.
thank you for a great video. got to be the BEST one out there. you made it very clear how all the parts line up. watching your video I am confidant on disassembly and assembly of my Mossberg 500. THANKS AGAIN
Excellent tutorial ! Subscribed ! I like when people can identify the parts , and use the proper terminology relative to describe each specific part and it’s mechanical function. I see so many videos where folks are trying to disassemble a gun ( and it’s obviously their first time attempting it ) and they talk like “ this little thing here goes into that thingy majob, and this doohickey ya gotta slide over here and push on that there little button “ and so on . It’s so refreshing to see your video and and I can feel 100 % confident that I can follow your instructions and perform the task without any questions or concerns , and it was educational as you can name each and every part with correlation to its function. Good job 👏 Thank you !
It is exactly the same. I used this video along with his reassembly vid to take my 500 apart and put it back together. Very easy to follow along, all the same parts
Great video, especially since I've never owned a Mossberg before, and I had to clean it today after shooting it for the first time. The camera angles were great, and helped me work out an issue with removing the trigger assembly, which just refused to come out of the receiver. I ended up having to use a couple screwdrivers and some wooden shims to pry it out. The problem was that a pin in the rearward area of the assembly was rubbing against the stock. A few taps with the brass hammer, and that issue was solved. But I kept watching your video several times to ensure that I didn't miss a step. Good job!!!
Just got a 590 last friday. You already showed me one thing I did not notice at first. When I got it home and was inspecting it, I did notice a hole on the back of the bayonet lug but did not understand the significance of it until I saw your sling swivel stud missing from the mag tube cap and something poking out from the back of of the bayo lug. I just moved my stud from the cap to the lug. That is the smarter position anyway as it prevents the situation of having your sling inadvertantly covering your muzzle when you fire.
Thank you! :) I was in the same situation. As soon as I got it down, I made this video, hoping to help others. Once again, thank you for the kind comment.
Excellent video, I do not own a shot gun but i enjoy the take down on all weapons. I did a complete tear down of my 1911 from watching someones video. Enjoyed it thanks
Excellent video, thank you sir. Personally have no experience with trigger mechanisms. I'll pay the gunsmith 35.00 to handle a very serious gun project removal/replacement until I have pro supervision. Just me. Learned a lot though on components and thank you again.
One thing though, I'd put some loctite or some kind of threadlocker on the threads when mounting a sling to the bayonet lug. I didn't on mine and I ended up loosing the mounting screw :(
For home defense at night, I've have a UTG ELP223Q mounted on a handgun. They run in the $50 range. Its a decent light but, not so sure it would hold up to heavy shotgun rounds.
Thanks for this vid. Helped me a lot. I bought my first shotgun a 590A1 #51415 with insight forend last month and got put it out of box this morning. I noticed there was a bit of rust on the chamber and at the back of the action tube. So I disassembled it and cleaned it out, even the inside of the action slide. I used kroil and it surface rusts came of. Is this normal for a new mossberg? The other guys who bought this in a Canadian forum also had the same comments. Upon reassembly I swapped the insight forend with a full rat tail forend. Maybe in the future I'll go all wood forend and stock. Thanks for this video as it's very detailed and I was able to follow every step of the way! Liked and subscribed!
Another awesome video! I subscribed after watching your geissele trigger install video and am happy I did because I own this shotgun and have yet to tear it down. Thank you.
Once again I have to thank u for all your help and advice but I have 1 last question. When I did my first detail strip on my new, never fired 590 it took me 30mins and around 45 swabs through the barrel to get that cosmo gunk out of the barrel. Is this normal? It also looks like it has some "scarring" near the chamber about 3inches long. It doesn't appear like it could hurt the gun but ive never seen a new shotgun with anything but a mirror finish smooth barrel all the way through. Thanks again
Why is there no spring in the tube. My shockwave is not pushing the round into the receiver when I pump the action and I am not sure how it could with no spring. Thanks for the video!
just to put it out there .. if your trigger assembly does not come off the way its suppose to , make sure that the bolt is pulled forward (locked position) , make sure it is on safe , and try it again so gently , if it only lift 1/4 " and get stuck , that means that the pin on the end where trigger meet stock is little bit outside and not flushed .. there are ways to get it out , but dont dent ur aluminium receiver .. i put a thin piece of plastic resting on receiver and got the head of screw driver on the plastic , then gently clockwise turn the screw it will left the trigger one hair .. and free that pin from being stuck , do not force it as you might damage bent that pin .. or take your shotgun to a gunsmith better safe than sorry .. once that done it will be easier to disassemble for cleaning ..etc i love my 590a1 but she is harder to disassemble comparing to the 870 .. 590a1 however is an awesome shotgun , well beefed up well made
Kicklite 6 position stock with a 5 shot sidesaddle and a quad-rail foregrip from Phoenix. I'm only installing two of the rails on the forend, one for my vertical grip and another for a light. Which I haven't purchased yet, any suggestions under $100 hopefully around $50
For a brand new gun, you can get ones with that much cosmoline. Sometimes, manufacturers go overboard with the stuff. As for the scarring, I do have some lines inside the barrel on mine. But, its had a lot of use. The scarring could be hardened cosmoline. I have a gun that had cosmoline hardened on it and it looked like pitted rust. I would try to check it out as closely as possible to make sure it's not pitting from rust or a bur from manufacturing that could cause an obstruction.
Great video. I have a Mossberg Shockwave which I just took apart and cleaned and lubed for the 1st time. I noticed your reciever has some galling in about the same spot as mine does. Do you know what caused that? TIA
Dig your channel! I just got my 590. Do you think I need to do a strip & clean before I shoot it? Seems like there's a lot of excess oil etc but I see other vids of folks shooting right out of the box.
Does the bolt ever hit the rear of the receiver? I’m planning on getting a mossberg but I want to know if the bolt hits the receiver being that the receiver is aluminum.
I'd just keep an eye on it for a while and see how it does. It sounds like it would work as long as the barrel retaining nut doesn't start backing out.
The safety on the top of the receiver on mine is broken and the foreward half of it is 'gone'. Where can I purchase a replacement part? Thanx. Good vid.
You don't have to do this all that often. If you just got it, it would be good to do a detailed cleaning if it was packed in a lot of cosmoline. After you go through the process once, you get it down and, its not too bad. I do have a video out of cleaning it. It's listed on my channel with my 590 videos.
The magazine tube spring/ assembly in my shotgun is capped with a press fitting located under the nut on the end of the mag tube. The more you take it out, the more it is going to deform and wear the part. And it makes it more difficult to get the spring/ assembly back in. For me, I just leave in the magazine tube assembly unless it is absolutely necessary to take it out.
will this give access to the spring/follower. i had one shell leak buffer into the magazine causing stiction problems (failure to feed). the follower refused to reseat & required butt-bump to remove the remaining shells. 40rounds resolved the issue but i want to thoroughly clean the tube. suggestions ? otherwise a great vid; thanx -stev
Great video i have had my 590 for a few years now but i have started having a problem after firing a box or so of shells my magazine end cap keeps working loose and on several occasions when ive gon to pump it the barell as nearly fallen off .can you tell me does your end cap that holds the magazine in place have a nipple which sits into a hole as ive noticed on all my other guns they all have a ball type nipple . Thanks
just ran a 4day tactical course. instructors routinely reminded us to check for magazine barrel tightness (ALL brands) as they CAN work loose. mine (590A1) did not, others did.
How could you go about installing a KNOXX spec ops pistol grip to it? Does the buttstock thats already stock have to be removed? Or how does that go about.
the bayonet lug is for the M7 version (US). with blade in hand it will become evident how easy it works. HOWEVER, check fit before purchase (of blade). some (RVN era) are a tight fit (as it should be); others have almost an 1/8" extra length which make for s a sloppy fit over the magazine nut.
Holy....I just bought a 590. 8 days to pick up time. Im no stranger to firearms by any means but this slightly freaks me out. Is this necessary for normal maintenance? Have you made a video of the parts that need oil? After how many rounds does it need cleaning? Help! Thank you
good show ! found some comments below on magazine disassembly which i need due shell/buffer leakage causing stiction (failure to feed) problems. further detail (follower removal) would be appreciated. thanx, -stev
Please do not ever take these vid's down. They are the most clear & understandable "how too's" on youtube.......the absolute best !!
10 years later… still one of the best and most straight forward videos!
this is the far clearest instruction video I have watched for 590 shotgun.
Thanks. I just bought a Shockwave and this was a great instructional video. Same for your reassembly instructions...
Mr Lucky same here.
Does this work for the 535??
This video completely saved my ass this weekend. I went to install an oversized safety and when I removed the factory tamper proof screw, the safety mechanism fell into the receiver and I had to tear it down for the first time to get all of the parts - this video made it SUPER simple. Thank you!
Thanks for the video! I can take apart anything in the M16/M4 family all day but the 590 was something new and different.
I’m very impressed with this Video. We need more like it especially of the Mossberg 590 Shockwave. Lighting and ability to see the different steps clearly are most helpful.
Just took apart my Mossberg 590 Shotgun and this video is "Great". Right to the point.
Thank you, Thank you ! I have had a Mossberg 590 SP for three years and I have paid somone to clean it for me. I was able watch the video to disassemble and assemble my Mossberg. You are Great !
Had no problems disassembling. The hard part was putting everything back. This helped thanks.
Thank you, sir, for your very helpful video. I watched it some time ago, before I purchased my Mossberg 590A1; and had to revisit it, today, after struggling last night, to reassemble my shotgun; which I purchased yesterday. Again, I appreciate you.
My tacticool parts arrived today. I'm back to your awesome vids to make sure I do this right.
Wow! This was 10x more clear than other videos I have seen! Thanks a ton, brother!
thank you for a great video. got to be the BEST one out there. you made it very clear how all the parts line up. watching your video I am confidant on disassembly and assembly of my Mossberg 500. THANKS AGAIN
Just purchased a 590 today. This is an awesome video on learning how take it apart.🤘🔥
just put 4 boxes thru my 590...this video was hugely helpful as the manual is a tough read. Seeing is always better...thank you!
Excellent tutorial ! Subscribed !

Thank you sir! This was extremely helpful and hands down the best how to remove the forend from a shotgun video I've seen.
You have the best Mossberg takedown video of the several I have seen. Thanks!
Outstanding, nice and simple. I will be getting my Mossberg Shockwave soon and this is a big help.
It is exactly the same. I used this video along with his reassembly vid to take my 500 apart and put it back together. Very easy to follow along, all the same parts
You need better lighting but otherwise this is one of the clearest dis-assembly videos I've seen. Nicely organized, well done.
Great video, especially since I've never owned a Mossberg before, and I had to clean it today after shooting it for the first time. The camera angles were great, and helped me work out an issue with removing the trigger assembly, which just refused to come out of the receiver. Thank you. Really good job, good view, good talking, in good temp. I'm all understand, but I'm very bad understand english language. Thank you again.

Thanks for the video. Very helpful!
I am replacing the forend (and stock) on mine soon and your video makes it look easy enough.
Thanks man. This was a big help in putting my SGA furniture on my 590.
this was the simplest thing ive ever done thanks bud
this was a very informative and easy to follow video! great job!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! It was very helpful!! I just got my 590A1 and have been struggling to understand the manual.
Thank you! :) I was in the same situation. As soon as I got it down, I made this video, hoping to help others. Once again, thank you for the kind comment.
Excellent video, made my disassembly a breeze right after watching video THX
Thanks for your video, I was concerned with changing the Forearm in my Mossberg, but know I have the confidence and help to do it! Great Video
Excellent video, I do not own a shot gun but i enjoy the take down on all weapons.
I did a complete tear down of my 1911 from watching someones video. Enjoyed it thanks
Used your videos to install my tacstar front grip, great walk through and easy to follow. Thanks!
best instructional video out of all of them
Thanks FMJ. 1st time disassembly/reassembly a success!
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos...they were very helpful and detailed. Saving for later reference.
Just found you out of the UA-cam world looking up mossberg 590 sp.. Glad I did good quality vids keep em coming
Excellent video, thank you sir. Personally have no experience with trigger mechanisms.
I'll pay the gunsmith 35.00 to handle a very serious gun project removal/replacement until I have pro supervision. Just me.
Learned a lot though on components and thank you again.
Very nice job, you gave us the info without repeating yourself. Thanks very much and I will be sure to watch the other videos you prepared as well.
Guns , the ultimate puzzles , love em .
Great video - probably the best out there for disassembly
Helps a lot ! never used a shotgun before.
Great vid help a lot with detail cleaning and lubricating my new 590.
thank you very much. this is the best video for the mossburg
One thing though, I'd put some loctite or some kind of threadlocker on the threads when mounting a sling to the bayonet lug. I didn't on mine and I ended up loosing the mounting screw :(
Thank you very much! And thank you for subbing. I really appreciate the support.
Thanks! Getting into the trigger mechanisms can be a little scary at first. After a while though, you get comfortable with it and it's not too bad.
For home defense at night, I've have a UTG ELP223Q mounted on a handgun. They run in the $50 range. Its a decent light but, not so sure it would hold up to heavy shotgun rounds.

Thanks for this video as it's very detailed and I was able to follow every step of the way! Liked and subscribed!
is it the same for the 500? im a complete nubie and this has opened my eyes to how simple it can be
Great video on a great shotgun
Another awesome video! I subscribed after watching your geissele trigger install video and am happy I did because I own this shotgun and have yet to tear it down. Thank you.
Thank you. This is a great video on how to disassemble and really helped me.

do you have to completely disassemble the shotgun in order to remove the forend? Wanna swap it out for a magpul forend
Exelent video to take down shotgun ! Not to fast & great camera shots to see the process . 👍
Why is there no spring in the tube. My shockwave is not pushing the round into the receiver when I pump the action and I am not sure how it could with no spring. Thanks for the video!
Just picked up a 590 for under $300. Couldn’t pass it up. Now I need to learn my new gun.
terrific vid...you make it look so common sense.
thanks.
typhoon out
If I need to change the entire magazine tube, do I need to take out the trigger assembly? Or can I just unscrew it once the barrel is off?

This is much easier to disassemble, than my Remington 870 for sure.
Thanks! You are right. In the future, if I do any more like this, I'm gonna try to get more lights.
Great video! How do know if the gun I bought is brand new. It looks used to me when I brought it home. Thank you.
Thanks for posting this video. My Mossberg 500 shotgun is ready for home defense!
Wow you are great at video instruction man!
Great video. I have a Mossberg Shockwave which I just took apart and cleaned and lubed for the 1st time. I noticed your reciever has some galling in about the same spot as mine does. Do you know what caused that? TIA

awesome video . . I have a shotgun Noob question, is it called a forearm or forend?? or both.
Thanks! I would strip it down the first time. That cosmoline that they pack them in can cause reliability problems from time to time.
Great video, couldn't have made it any more clear!
You don't have to do this all that often. If you just got it, it would be good to do a detailed cleaning if it was packed in a lot of cosmoline. Just what I needed. Thanks!
Best damn 5 min I ever spent! Just got mine today and yup! Exactly like you said.

just ran a 4day tactical course. instructors routinely reminded us to check for magazine barrel tightness (ALL brands) as they CAN work loose. mine (590A1) did not, others did.
Is the trigger guard made out of metal or plastic
Nice job. Great details.
What kind of sling mount is that on the bayonet lug?
yes exact same for the 500 model.
Great video, really shows how easy it is to take down this shotgun
How could you go about installing a KNOXX spec ops pistol grip to it? Does the buttstock thats already stock have to be removed? Or how does that go about.
Nice! What tacticool stuff did you get?
Thanks. Happy new owner of a 590 like yours. What can you tell me about that bayonet lug with the swivel?
the bayonet lug is for the M7 version (US). with blade in hand it will become evident how easy it works.
Help! Thank you
