Oscar Cervantes, an ex-addict, and now a convert to Christ, has adopted the Correction Training Facility at Soledad as his favorite field of unique ministry. The third Saturday evening of each month is "Oscar's Night" at Soledad -- so it is announced. On this evening all who wish come from their cells and wings to the Protestant Chapel at the "6:15 unlock." It is heartening to see inmates come from both directions of the corridor to the Chapel. They sing gospel songs with fervor; they sit intently for over two hours; they come freely to the Chapel altar; they pray fervently, and they are prayed, for. At the close of the service -- about 9:00 -- they leave the Chapel spiritually uplifted and refreshed. It feels almost like not being in prison. They understand him - he understands them; they identify with him. His ministry is simply, direct, personal, inspiring, redemptive - full of faith, hope & love. When he calls them to prayer, they crowd around the Chapel altar. And Oscar prays for them. He does not come alone. He brings with him likeminded earnist and dedicated associated some of whom have experiences like deliverence from misspent lives. All are fervrent in spirit as they witness of the saving grace of God. The Saturday night services are unique, alive, effective and enjoyable. This congregation has been challenged, confronted and blessed. It can be said "I was in prison, and Oscar visited me." H. C. Warwick Protestant Chaplain.
Thank you
