Happy 110th Anniversary to "The School Teacher and the Waif", June 27th, 1912. I've never seen this short that co-starred my great uncle, Robert Harron. Thanks for posting it to Instagram so I could come here and watch it.

Loved the movie! Mary Pickford was such a talented actress that helped pioneer changes in the way silent movies were produced. She was in high demand working for the largest movie companies at the time asking for high pay and she got it! People were drawn to her like a magnet!

A mere four years after this Griffith would direct these same actors, Alfred Paget, Mae Marsh, Bobby Harron, Josephine Crowell in "Intolerance," a jaw-dropping epic. Well, that just blows my mind.

Mary Pickford was very pretty, had loads of energy, & always put in good performances, as in this case. From the beginning film industry had adults playing children, except Blanche Sweet who seemingly did the opposite, & this is no exception, though Mary can easily pass for someone much younger.

And to think, Mary wanted her films destroyed upon her death! What a waste that would have been!

Well, this one hasn't aged quite so well as some of the others. The teacher, who seems nearly three times Mary's age, appears to make advances to his student and it's counted as a happy ending (to be fair, he did save her from a rogue, and appears to have promised never to use the dunce cap in class again. Still weird). Mary's great and Bobby Harron is a hoot--I was expecting him to turn sympathetic at any moment but, nope.

I'm Robert Harron's great nephew and I agree with you . He's a hoot in this and almost steals the show in several scenes.
