Ir was an amazing wave, but in the air he got stuck on the landing. I think actually it got slightly over scored, which would had changed the result. I guess they are tired of Brazilians winning everything

I came to the comments for just that. What a joke. Why do they cater to the Brazos so much? Slater completely out surfed Italo as well and was awfully underscored. I get the technical aspects of their surfing as a whole and respect it… but when someone like Slater or Robinson matches it and also makes it much nicer to look at (drop knee vs sumo for example) it should be reflected in the scoring.

How do the judges score it that close. One bloke is getting barreled and doing airs, the other is doing backhand hacks on repeat. The wsl has turned into a joke.
Can't believe Silva was actually winning with his safety hacks, they where good for one or two waves only. Robbo delivered with nice tubes off the take off, a variety of air's and some big hacks (blow tails lol). Robbo was under scored and Silve over scored.
today I was watching some videos of JJ florence. you can see the huge difference between an extraordinary surfer and an ordinary professional surfer. JJ florence catching 15 to 20 foot waves as if they were 3 foot waves. he surfs so spectacularly that it seems easy to do what he does, but it isn't. only a few are at this level , all the others are good surfers and sometimes even have their exceptional days , but they will never be like the exceptional surfers . italo , medina, , JJ florence are on another level and even though he is almost 50 years old, kelly slater was not only the best surfer of all time, but in my opinion the best athlete of all time. slater, which started at the end of the 80s to the 90s, has been winning generations and generations of surfers who never reached his extraordinary level of surfing. only with the arrival of the medina in 2014 and other Brazilians and JJ florence, it can be said that finally slater would no longer be number 1 in the world. but , calling the guy old and outdated , is even an insult not only with the slater , but with the surf itself . except for exceptional surfers like JJ florence , medina and italo who surf the small and big waves masterfully , slater is already getting a little slower on the small ones , but when the sea grows and the waves are challenging , then slater shows that it is still between the best . and on challenging waves, he competes head-to-head with the exceptional. an unassailable fact that unfortunately many do not admit. go there and do it like him or say how many do like him. that simple . judges scored jacks first wave so low....I have some experience I'm no expert but I dont see Silva's first wave scoring higher than Jack's first wave....Silva was doing vertical turns in the pocket but still, Jack got jacked on his first score should have been an excellent score 8 range in my opinion..
about this final , i honestly thought the australian took the drums easy . he used several maneuvers, tube and with a beautiful wave line. this guy surfs a lot in my opinion. i think deivid surf is predictable. coldly analyzing, he just digs into the base of the wave and hits the lip and nothing else. and I've seen a lot more insane backside beats than his. if you want to go back in time, just get the occhilupo and its backside beats. of course , that was in the 80 's to 90 's . we are in 2021 . in my understanding a surfer who doesn't have progressive surfing, lines and edge surfing, it's already outdated. I guess the judges were really rewarding going big on that first section. I feel like Silva's surfing was a little cleaner, but jack had those airs. 8.33 seems a little over scored because he didn't have many big turns after the air
Didn't that start with a solid barrel as well though? Such a difficult heat to score, Jack being the only guy getting barreled vs Silva destroying the wave with those backside snaps. Both guys ripped
There was a good barrel before that air too. I honestly thought jack was surfing much cleaner. Also deivid silva had literally 0 variation. Always hard to judge goofy vs regular on a point break tho

JJ florence pegando ondas de 15 a 20 pés como se fossem ondas de 3 pés . ele surfa de uma maneira tão espetacular que parece fácil fazer o que ele faz , mas não é . somente uns poucos estão nesse nivel , todos os outros são bons surfistas e as vezes até tem seus dias excepcionais , mas nunca serão como os surfistas excepcionais . italo , medina, , JJ florence estão em outro patamar e mesmo com seus quase 50 anos , kelly slater não só foi o melhor surfista de todos os tempos , mas na minha opinião o melhor atleta de todos os tempos . slater que começou final da decada de 80 para 90 , foi vencendo gerações e mais gerações de surfistas que nunca chegaram ao seu nivel extraordinario de surf . somente com a chegada do medina em 2014 e de outros brasileiros e JJ florence , se pode dizer que finalmente slater não seria mais o numero 1 do mundo . mas , chamarem o cara de velho e ultrapassado , chega a ser um insulto não só com o slater , mas com o proprio surf . tirando os surfistas excepcionais como JJ florence , medina e italo que surfam as ondas pequenas e as grandes com maestria , slater ja ficando um pouco mais lento nas pequenas , mas quando o mar cresce e as ondas são desafiadoras , então slater mostra que ainda esta entre os melhores . e nas ondas desafiadoras , compete de igual para igual com os excepcionais . fato inatacavel que infelizmente muitos não admitem . vão lá e façam igual a ele ou digam quantos fazem igual a ele . simples assim . sou a favor da evolução , se quizesse ver surf parado no tempo , é só ver os grandes surfistas excepcionais das decadas de 70, 80 , 90 . tom currem , tom carrol, mark richards , martin potter , occilupo , shaun tomson e muitos outros que davam show , mas a epoca deles ja passou , portanto privilegiar um surfista que apenas deu batidas de back side e foram poucas de fato que tiveram um momento critico , seria voltar ao tempo e se o lance é voltar ao tempo , tem milhares de videos dos grandes surfistas , só comparar . aloha

D. Silva's 80s style surfing was no match for Robinson's more innovative surfing. A Tom Carroll, Damien Hardman or Occy on their backside would have won though, even with their late 80s style of surfing.
First two waves were not even close in score Jacks should have been much higher, so bad.

judges scored jacks first wave so low....I have some experience I'm no expert but I dont see Silva's first wave scoring higher than Jack's first wave....Silva was doing vertical turns in the pocket but still, Jack got jacked on his first score should have been an excellent score 8 range in my opinion..
about this final , i honestly thought the australian took the drums easy . he used several maneuvers, tube and with a beautiful wave line. this guy surfs a lot in my opinion. i think deivid surf is predictable. coldly analyzing, he just digs into the base of the wave and hits the lip and nothing else. and I've seen a lot more insane backside beats than his. if you want to go back in time, just get the occhilupo and its backside beats. of course , that was in the 80 's to 90 's . we are in 2021 . in my understanding a surfer who doesn't have progressive surfing, lines and edge surfing, it's already outdated. I at least as a surfer and surf admirer, I think that this new generation with Brazilians being the best for some time, are putting on a show. italo, medina, toledo in my understanding are the best . in terms of surf with the most beautiful lines, the surfer I like the most is JJ florence, I regret the injuries he suffered over time. kelly slater for me is always show, the best athlete of all time by the way. the guy is about to turn 50 and he's still putting on a show. remember that it started from the end of the 80's to the 90's. anyway, I wouldn't give a championship to a surfer who just hits the backside. and in all his beats, there were only a few that, if analyzed coldly, had a degree of difficulty. for the rest it's just standing there defending the guy because he's Brazilian or is hardworking and so on. remember that he is no longer one of the newcomers, the guy is already 26 to 27 years old. that is, his surfing is already defined. congratulations to the finalists. if you want to see a brazilian in siberia at minus 58 degrees and taking a shower at minus 30 degrees , visit my channel , whoever visits and can help me i appreciate it , the channel name is ........BRASILEIRO NA RUSSIA , SIBERIA

I guess the judges were really rewarding going big on that first section. I feel like Silva's surfing was a little cleaner, but jack had those airs. 8.33 seems a little over scored because he didn't have many big turns after the air
Didn't that start with a solid barrel as well though? Such a difficult heat to score, Jack being the only guy getting barreled vs Silva destroying the wave with those backside snaps. Both guys ripped
There was a good barrel before that air too. I honestly thought jack was surfing much cleaner. Also deivid silva had literally 0 variation. Always hard to judge goofy vs regular on a point break tho
