I worked on Alien Covenant when they filmed in Milford sound (New Zealand), Started out making giant alien wheat and ended up working on the night shoots for the Greens team. I was so lucky to go from dogs body to set dressing while shooting. Got to meet Ridly Scott was very awesome.
This is why Adam Rocks. Brazil is my All Time Favourite Movie. Terry Gilliam, my Favourite Director.. I have like 5-6 Copies of it in various formats and I loan it to anyone who says they've never seen it. The only one I still need to find is a Copy of the Criterion Collection LASERDISC! I am so Jealous you got to have a sit down meal with Terry Gilliam. That's Amazing. Also I've been trying to find ways to get you to some/any Events where I work at the Ontario Science Centre. Was hoping you'd make an appearance when we were Hosting the Mythbusters Exhibition but I did go see Brain Candy when you were here which was amazing.
I've never seen Brazil I've seen the poster but never actually took the time to watch it. I'm not in the industry but I would love to have worked on the kubo set. Or even just to sit in a corner and watch everyone working. How they brought the characters to light and the effort they went through to make one of my favourite film is just amazing. The biggest reason though would be at the end of the film where they show a small glimpse of what they did. Just awesome
For a SF movie Brazil is rather well known in the US it seems. It gets often recommended in top 10 listicles. A big reason is probably that it was shot in English, since US Americans really don't like dubbed movies. (Not sure about other English speaking countries.)
Yes I prefer in-camera as well. This is why I love “Silent Running” as there are no mattes in it - all the SPFX was done in-camera (multiple passes) with the massive 26 ft long Valley Forge model in front of Scotchlite screens and the star backgrounds and/or Saturn was front projected. Query though - would not the Ray Harryhausen stop-motion be considered in camera? The Dynamation process was his animated models filmed in front of the rear-projected backgrounds, frame by frame, done at the same time in-camera.
Brazil was my favorite film forever. (Not the "Love Conquers All" version). Still in my top 10.... I always wondered if the overhead shots looking down on Sam's balcony (with view of the door and the neighboring apartment building 34:42) were composit shots since they show about 10 stories down below the baclony and about 2 above.
I was absolutely amazed to hear "Brazil"! That is one of my favourite films from the past that nobody else I know either knows about, cares about or likes! What would Adam do? Hopefully, he could improve those dodgy flying-in-armour sequences??? Always had to overlook those...
Brazil! Brilliant film, it was the last film my brother told me I should watch before he died in '91. Related Tuttle, to the way we we worked in our electrical servicing company, we 'parachute' in, fix the problem properly, and disappear! I still do that now with Guerrilla Repairs, and Repair Cafes, and helping out fellow makers.
Before he said it I thought he would say Blade Runner, Fifth Element and my outside shot was Brazil. Obviously my subconscious remembered him talking about it. Love the film and have not watched it in a while so now to find it to Watch.
I don't have a twitter account and I don't intend to sign up, but I love this format... So, would someone out there maybe ask my question for me? #askadamsavage if you could choose a book, that would then be made into a movie and you could choose one item from that book that you would then get to make as a prop for that movie, what would that item be? thanks in advance to the one who might relay this :)
Oh man, Metropolis... my favorite film period. The huge amount of practical effects used to represent the state of the workers conditions and the predatory nature that humanity would have in the distant future if they dare to loose their heart was, to me, incredible. The first time I watched it I did it 5 times in a row and couldn't believe how much Fritz Lang got right, since most of the industrialized 1st world nations ended up creating a system that protects the CEOs and bleeds the workers. P.S: Also, 'kudos' for the ones behind the very first android in cinema history, the dangerous beauty, HELL.
Brazil, Back to the Future, Enemy Mine, Cocoon, Mad Maxx - Beyond Thunderdome, The Quiet Earth, Weird Science, Real Genius Were all 1985 - A great year for Scifi movies. Loved Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits also.
You forgot everyone's favorite movie. Ewoks: The Battle for Endor! I have no idea why I like that movie, maybe it's because I was dropped on my head as a small child.
Ok I'm a sci-fi fan and have never watched Brazil. Something I will remedy very soon, I can't wait, I have watched the official trailer and it looks stunning. How did I miss this movie.
So, looking at Savage's IMDB page, I wonder which of the movies he worked on he wouldn't watch again? Star Wars I & II? The Matrixes? Maybe it is the Billy Joel video. :P
what is that bug thing on the couch behind adam?! it looks awesome id like to know more about it like wher eis it from who made it etc? maybe showcase it in an episode?
Adam couldn't be working in Brazil (movie) but he may always come to Brazil (country) and participate in our main Con (CCXP), it's just a silly pun but the feeling is true...
Nice Avatar. My dad took me to see that when it first came out, I was six. When it was mentioned that they had to eat Sir Robins minstrels, I didn't know what minstrels were. I thought it meant testicles. This made the joke so much funnier for me.
Thanks for the awesome videos! Please, keep on posting model kit related stuff. They are getting popular again thanks to japanese anime so it is a good time to keep on teaching your great techniques with all your enthusiasm.
Nice to see him admit the truth about working in the industry...the majority of what you work on will not be something that suits your "tastes", otherwise you'll just be another starving artists. The people who get the furthest like Adam, are the ones who bit the most bullets and slogged through years of crap until they were in a position where they are able to make those choices.
Honestly, I would have thought Adam would have wanted to work on Blade Runner 2049. I mean, he's pretty much the authority on the Dekkard's gun (see his BR Blaster collection videos).
I almost worked on Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes. I had the job offer but my sister was getting married in the middle of the shoot that I would have been a part of. I turned it down and went to a wedding. My father skipped the wedding to work overtime. Just one of the reasons I hate my Dad.
Love everything you guys do at Tested, but could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE move the giant bug from Pacific Rim out of the shot? It creeps me out hardcore.
I worked on Alien Covenant when they filmed in Milford sound (New Zealand), Started out making giant alien wheat and ended up working on the night shoots for the Greens team. I was so lucky to go from dogs body to set dressing while shooting. Got to meet Ridly Scott was very awesome.
maybe we can get an update from the cave.
maybe a new tour perhaps. love you guys
I would have guessed a Guillermo del Toro project.
Finally getting a non Norm video. Like norm. But i like watching Adam. Hope he has another one day build in the works
K Sum he does have a one day build on the way he talked about it on his instagram
2000jago I guess I’m lucky I’m not knowing who Will is then.

That scene in Brazil where they switched back to Metric always kills me.
Do you have a 27B-6?
@@Samlowry27B-6 Not...As such!..But we'll get one..
"You're a good man in a tight corner"
Dude, Brazil is one my all time fav, insanely underrated, its a piece of art

Trurl When I first watched it a few years back. It seemed no ones heard of it in spite of Danny Devitos appearance.
@@TallicaMan1986 I don't think Danny DeVito was in it. Do you mean Robert De Niro? Or maybe even Bob Hoskins, he looked a bit like DeVito?
aspilurch same thing.
I adore Brazil. Such a classic.
I absolutely loved Brazil! Terry Gilliam is a genius.
I have to agree with you about Brazil. Although it was so off the wall, it was so breathtaking at the same time.

Everybody be like "Yeah, brilliant choice". And all I can see is the metric crapton of lightsabers behind Adam in the cabinet... Is it just me?
Se7enDE Adam did work on the star wars prequels for a while, I’m guessing he wishes he worked on the originals.
I don't have a twitter account and I don't intend to sign up, but I love this format...

I don't have twitter either, somebody ask this, great question!
1:11 'turd polishing', yes you cannot polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter

Agree on Metropolis. Blew my mind.

Time Bandits is still one of my all time favorites
@@eideticex Not at all! I feel ashamed to have left out Ewoks! i absolutely adore the movie and loved it! :)
I saw Brazil for the first time last fall and it blew me away. What an incredible movie.
I'm sitting at my PC desk, only have to move my head slightly right and I'm staring at my blu-ray copy of Brazil. Love that film!
Ok I'm a sci-fi fan and have never watched Brazil. Something I will remedy very soon, I can't wait, I have watched the official trailer and it looks stunning. How did I miss this movie.
i would have said John Carpenter's The Thing with the Mozart of the craft Rob Bottin
My timing is perfect. Have seen Brasil just over a month ago.
So, looking at Savage's IMDB page, I wonder which of the movies he worked on he wouldn't watch again? Star Wars I & II? The Matrixes? Maybe it is the Billy Joel video. :P
Brazil - what a brilliant and underrated film. Keep on trucking on Terry!
Mac and Me. Duh, lol. Brilliant. ☕👽
Adam Savage must be a Sith Lord hunting down Jedi with all those lightsabers he has in that cabinet :P
"A fine addition to my collection"
Grievous wasn't a sith lord
Suuuuch a good choice, man. That would have been life changing.
what is that bug thing on the couch behind adam?! it looks awesome id like to know more about it like wher eis it from who made it etc? maybe showcase it in an episode?
1:05 Episode II
You could take an hour to answer a question and I would watch every second of it.
I would have imagined Time Bandits was a lot of fun too
Adam couldn't be working in Brazil (movie) but he may always come to Brazil (country) and participate in our main Con (CCXP), it's just a silly pun but the feeling is true...
I sort of wish in the end of the video Adam would pet the alien bug beside him and revealed that he is a galactic lord villain all these times..
I don't know why but i was expecting him to say Time Bandits, but Brazil's also an excellent choice as well.
Nice Avatar. My dad took me to see that when it first came out, I was six. When it was mentioned that they had to eat Sir Robins minstrels, I didn't know what minstrels were. I thought it meant testicles. This made the joke so much funnier for me.
For me it would be either Aliens, The Iron Giant, Interstellar, or The Revenant, etc.
Ok, so I never even heard of Brazil before, but I just bought the Blu ray from Amazon based strictly off this video. It'll be here tomorrow. 👍👍
What a mistake THAT was. I feel like it hasn't stood the test of time for any potential first-time viewers.
Oh well, better luck next time I suppose.

Did you said Brazil?? You just have summoned us, the HUEHUEUHUEHUEHUE HUE people
Definition of a mad genius: Terry Gilliam
I have a question, if Harison Ford visited your show and you only had 1 prop for him to sign what would it be?
Now I think the more pertinent question is why haven't you worked with these directors?
I mean, other than being semi retired?
Interesting enough, Adam literally polished a turd on Mythbusters once! Very cool and entertaining

I love Adams hair
Never heard such a brilliant pronunciation of 'education' haha. Fantastic answer as always.
Adam, could you please place all of your lightsabers on a table and post a picture of them...in a pile?
Turd pulsing he did that on MythBusters and I will always remember him for it
There really should be an emot button. Growing up, all my favourite films are being listed here.
You have many lightsabers there, but have you ever made one from an actual 3-cell Graflex flashgun?
Not the answer that would first come to mind if I was to guess, but a very good one. Love that movie also.
Thank the maker for Adam Savage.
I would of given my first born to work on who framed Rodger rabbit.
I watched Brazil when I was really young and it scared the shit out of me. It still gives me nightmares.
Loved Brazil.
Brazil is my favorite movie!
Is that beside Adam a Kaiju Bug from Pacific Rim?
Jona Klem
Most definitely is...
My favourite movie I would love to work on but since I was way to young back then is Hobbit battle of five armies, AQUAMAN, Godzilla KOTM, US
Stop teasing us. Show us your lightsaber collection!
Adam will your next cosplay be from Brazil?????????????????????????????
Yay!
Adam incognito idea...from Brazil....di Nero's death scene retold in cosplay.
Compositor here and I'll second the statement about working on a lot of crap vs cool stuff. 😅
Finally we’re going to get an Adam only science channel show!!!! Thank god cause mythbusters jr was terrible
I know I should know, but can someone tell me what that bug on the back of Adam's couch is from?
I believe it's from Pacific Rim?
Another movie added to my never ending list of media i want to consume one day.
i wouldve loved to help with props on BTTF....!
the Thing
I was expecting The Maltese Falcon so that he would know the right way to make a Maltese Falcon.
Gentlemen, take me to work. I am a crafter with experience and learn quickly))
Terry's films are some of the best and mostly not understood film in history..
*Interesting*
The one he chose isn't a mainstream film
thanks Adam!
Oh man Adam, I knew I liked you for a reason. Your taste in movies is exquisite, and my envy over you having a meal with Terry Gilliam is enormous.
*AWESOME* ❤❤
Look at all those lightsabers behind him.
Ridley Scott will call you soon!
When did you shoot this? No tattoo.
Hard to believe he didn't say "Blade Runner" outright, no second choice. I thought that was a shoe-in.
I almost worked on Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes. I had the job offer but my sister was getting married in the middle of the shoot that I would have been a part of. I turned it down and went to a wedding. My father skipped the wedding to work overtime. Just one of the reasons I hate my Dad.
Why does he have so many vibrators in that glass cabinet?

NEED MORE LIGHT SABERS?

Adam needs to build the new Lunar lander module Lego set
I’m surprised he didn’t blurt out Blade Runner 2049

This is literally a question I've always wanted to ask him I would think the answer would be Blade Runner
