Except modern diesel locomotives dont produce steam, and using air for whistles doesnt sound the same unlike being steam powered. Not to mention, steam whistles are more expensive and no company mass produces whistles anymore
That Mournful, lonesome sound of a steam whistle, especially in the hands of an engineer good at quilling it like that, is the real sound of railroading
Steam engines don’t need to worry about red traffic lights, they just blow their whistle once and all the traffic will move away, and if it doesn’t they just shove them out of the way
This is an actual L&N 3 chime freight whistle that was borrowed from a member of the Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation. It was part of the masquerade. The 4501 is also wearing a L&N headlight.
And this is why the railroads should bring back whistles. Did you see that guy jump on the brakes when he heard that whistle?
Horns exist, but they are not as effective sometimes. Also the Southern Pacific Daylight 4449 has a whistle and an 'air horn', pretty interesting.

@@LateRegister some whistles use compressed air. Like Diesels
Diesels have horns that use compressed air. Horns are different from whistles.
@@steamfan I got a good comparison: diesel horns are like trumpets and steam whistles are like an accordion or calliope.
So friggin cool, I wouldn't mind being at that gate crossing.😲
This is why steam is so cherished and beloved, when you say train; THIS comes to mind.

Those whistle chord skills are top notch! Holy smokes that sounded so good.
Literally thought the train was on the streets lol
i love those whistles
Man those old trains have personality
The whistle sounds beautiful
I would be good if 4501 kept this whistle honestly and I can nearly recognize her it looks good I love it!
I wish I knew about that. I would've loved to have seen that in person!
Don't worry about that RED light buddy. LOL

@@gabetrain8834 Pretty sure he’s meaning the car at 0:10 the light is red and he made a left turn even when theirs a train coming

@@johnathanhardin152 Not to argue or anything, but Consolidation works at TVRM.
4501's 1st Masquerade.
this sound is just....georguose
Considering how many cars ran the red light... no wonder he had to blow the whistle that much.
The engineer most likely drawing it out for fun
I was so curious about the new whistle that toby have and so i searched it and it's actually cool
I love old coaches
God. Imagine seeing this on a regular basis
They have one at cedar point
That's 4501 painted into L&N Paint with a new whistle. The bell isn't changed. I know that bell from anywhere
It is SOU 4501. There never was an L&N 1593. If I remember correctly the numbers ended at 1592.
@@steamfan didn't know the numbers stopped at 1592. I'm not familiar with many ralroad's road number assigned to certain models.
I thought that whistle sounded familiar!
Should get a whistle like that for Strasburg 89.
So it does sound like a class 91 horn
princeton 3 chime
Southern Top lever whistle?
Nope, flat top L&N freight 3 chime.
To be honest I don’t here the difference between her Crosby 3 chime and her Current Southern 3 Chime
nice train! I'd luv to be a....coach roach...in it..
Isn't 1593 just 4501
Yes. It is SOU 4501 "dressed" as L & N 1593.
Nobody talking abt the fact that the train in this video Is from the polar express?
No.
The polar express is based off of Pere Marquette 1225 and Nickel Plate Road 765. They’re sister engines.
@@thatoneguy611
Ooo so close, real railfans all know that 1225 doesn't exist and is just a figment of your imagination.
Sounds more like a Southern 3 chime than a Crosby😒
It is a Crosby 3 chime installed especially for these runs of the SOU 4501 "dressed" as the L&N 1593
What genius thought it was a good idea to put a crossing in a 4 way intersection
It's possible the rails were there before the roads.
@@steamfan whichever came later was just stupid
What kind of railroad crossing is that?! It’s ridiculous.
