It's the Catalina Fun Run!

- Every year on Fathers Day, a bunch of offshore power boaters gather to go boating to Catalina Island. We call it the Catalina Fun Run. Starting from Long Beach, we made the 26 mile, high-speed run to Catalina in approx. 20 minutes. Due to COVID, our turnout was small with only 12 boats, but the caliber of performance boats that made the run were top notch.
As a co-producer of this event, I get the added benefit of being the built-in "official photographer". As usual for this time of year in Southern California, the marine layer (known as "June Gloom") was heavy in the morning for the run to the island. But just like clockwork, it eventually cleared to reveal blue skies, beautiful turquoise waters and the ultimate island vibe at our favorite lunch destination, Descanso Beach Club.

those fountains omg are beautiful
15 to 20 minutes drive... awesome video..A1
How can I join this group these fun runs?
Nice! A couple outboards were moving right along too.
For sure! 80-100 mph MTI and Midnight Express Center Consoles.
Looks great. I’d love a run over there.
Dope. Sorry I missed it this year...
Come out for the big one in October!
....... go fun run with a freeman 37vh with some 450 racing motors..... smoothest ride and made for fishing
Nice! How fast were you guys going?
We ran in the 70’s and 80’s. One of the center consoles got close to 100. But that’s not easy to sustain in the ocean.... or very pleasant. Lol
@@FastLoudPhotography wow you guys were flying!
Hey, How is the 2022 run looking? First-timer here hoping to make it down there this summer. Have you decided on dates? Thanks!
Hi. So, a couple of our regulars are getting married on our usual weekend, and our co-organizer of the event is going to the wedding. With that and the fact that June Gloom is a constant problem for me in the chopper (heavy marine layer typical for June) we decided to move it to sept/oct. keep an eye on the website for firm date. www.Catalinafunrun.com
You thought about craning your boat in the water instead of getting the trailer wet in salt?
Some do. But most of them just have Aluminum trailers for that reason. Some have aluminums as Thierry second trailer just for salt.
When is the next event ??
Right now we’re planning June 20th, Fathers Day, which is a CFR tradition. We’re hoping to go back to our overnight format. Like our page on Facebook for updates. Link is in the video description, above.
How can I be a part of this, (38 Fountain)
Thanks for asking. We’d love to have you! Check out our website at https:/www.catalinafunrun.com for updates. As of now, we’ve cancelled our overnight event in October due to lack of sponsorship thanks to COVID. However, if something changes, you’ll see it on our website, as well as our Facebook page. Hope to see you at the next one!
how can i join you guys?
Check out our website and Facebook page at https:/www.catalinafunrun.com
That’s where we’ll be announcing the next events.
Would a 35’ 1000 hp (500x2) Nordic Flame be reasonable for this trip? Never had it on the ocean but it’ll do 75mph at Lake Powell all the time. Looks like it doesn’t take you long to make the
Dale Taylor oh, absolutely! Taylor made for this trip! In fact, Nordic was our presenting sponsor last year! The Flame would make quick work of the channel.
Dale Taylor and yes, we typically make it over to the island in 15-25 minutes depending on power and sea conditions.
Of course. Anther GD music video.
Don’t know what to tell ya, bud. If you like 80mph wind noise in the microphone, go stick your head in a blender. Sounds about the same.
Need to loose the music
Microphones aren’t a big fan of 70mph winds. Just go stick your head out the window while driving down the freeway. That’s all you’re going to hear, anyway. That should make you happy.
@@FastLoudPhotography I have a HOWARD 22xl. I know but it is possible.
