Honestly I've never used the pathfinder tool with the compound shape option, but I can see how useful it can be, a lot of times I would have liked to be able to still have control but never thought there's a solution for it, thanks for the video!

Can you show us how to do a layered 2 level cake look? I also want to fill in the cake layers with multicolors, like a rainbow cake, But it actually has to look like a cake that can be filled. I really want to learn how to do such a unique pattern. But really love your videos and you explain it all so well, which is why I ask.

    Excellent as usual 👍
I find the terminology they use for tools and methods in Illustrator hopelessly confusing! They should rename things to something more appropriate such as 'Minus Front' being called something like 'Delete Back' etc, etc.
As for Masks? I've been using Illustrator and Photoshop for years and I still can't get my head around them! 🤐

How were you able to get a while fill on the inner circle when you made a compound shape out of two circle in point #3?
I thought compound shape takes the fill of the object on top?

Hi Nathaniel, thanks for a great video. I have a question, how do I join a shape with a line. First, I make a square shape with square tool, then I make a line using line tool. But when I try to joined both line (trying to joining both anchor of box and line), it give me this "The selected objects cannot be joined as they are invalid objects (Compound paths, Closed paths, Text objects, Graphs, Live Paint group). You can use Join command to connect two or more paths, paths in groups; or to close an open path." Can you make a tutorial for this in future?

High quality microphone, with windshield, isolated from computer vibrations through that desk-lamp thing, he modulates his voice a bit like a radio announcer, speaks close to microphone, and is probably in a room away from street so you don't get the sound of garbage truck hydraulics and a beep, beep, beep!

I tried to merge two rings and a warning showed up telling me I need to select two or more filled and overlapping paths in order to merge them but you didn't have to do it...
    I don't get it ...
Would be thankful for some help!
