I remember getting letters from the feds telling me that my phone had been tapped after they closed their investigation and they came to my work a few times to harass me. They tried to get me fired and it almost worked. But when my boss realized who they were investigating he saw it for what it was and realized it was essentially a fishing expedition and harassment.

More than that yet! I have lowered my 81 Camaro 3", and put bigger tires up front (225-45-18) and I need more negative camber. I have way to many Shims in there right now and my camber is still positive! (almost 0°) I need to shorten mines! I massaged the fenders and rolled the lip, but still very close. I'll be cutting out 3/4" to 1". Possibly moving the ball joint 1/4" more to the rear while I'm at it to get a little more positive caster for straight line stability. Gona be some work, but less than having to "extend" Thanks for the video!

I worked at the GM plant that stamped out thousands and thousands of these arms every shift. They were a corporate control arm stamping. The major difference was the bushing and ball joint combination spec. By each division Chevy, Pontiac, Olds ....

great vid. one thing you might want to mention for 'beginners' is the triangular shape to A arms and keeping the correct geometry as you did with the spindle still in place, if you extend a square everything stays in parallel, if you extend or reduce a triangle (like in a roof chop) some stuff needs to be bent to match the new angle. its knowing what to bend and what to keep 'square' that might catch out some

just started today to stretch mine 5/8 inch on my 70 Impala. I'm only doing it to get a proper alignment later. first time I've done the newschool method. I certainly see what I can and shouldn't do by actually doing it. when I do the other one, it will be better. really the only thing I did different was I welded an angle iron on instead of flat bar. they are fidgety getting them tacked as I don't have a metal table to work on

Awesome work. I remember in the 70’s we had a v8 Vega that lost steering control at high speeds. We cut the upper ball joint off and moved it rearward to gain more caster and also installed eccentric control arm bushings. Problem fixed. Good video sir 👍
My concern when cutting and welding, want the heat mess up the bushings? Also time is money, if you have a high volume on this type of work, I would make me some sort of a jig to hold work item in place to align and speed work up.. Great Vid and thinks for sharing

I am in to Toyota 4x4 1986- 88 pick-ups xcab, and the tabs for the shocks on lower A arms always crack or break, this video might give me insight how to fix or reenforce the tabs, mind you are using Downey 2 inch lift dual shocks both sides, great for getting air!! Thanks for the video!!!!

I was wondering if this was feasible ! I got a monza i'm wanting to put s10 spindles on but it causes camber issues and looks funny. Most move the lower BJ inboard. This seems like a better solution.
You did a fine job your rite knowledge is key your company need not be worried about people taking your trade away it is about the geometry is very important.People just weld and think it is aldone no it takes skill to do this i to do alot of welding at shop it takes practice.
Couldnt u tig it instead of mig if penetration is a concern and it would almost Eliminate your pile up and grinding/blending? 3/4 wide 20 ft sticks of flat stock is 10-15 $ looks like it would save alot of time over f in around with the plasma table cuttin a little piece out! Time is money!! Other than that it looks great and i liked the way u guys did it
Question, whats the purpose of extending a-arms? Is it for more travel or aesthetics? (I am not a fan of the extended arms with the exception of camber issues with my tires,) thx in advance.
my reply disappeared , but, I have dropped spindles and cut coils, the aftermarket spindles arent bent like the originals to align the kingpin, and it makes the wheels lean in at the top. Back in the fifties, you would heat up the dropped uprights, that hold the spindles, and bend it till the wheels are straight up. I would rather do this a arm trick, rather than heat up the spindle upright, and not know if I did it right unless I magnafluxed it, to easy to mess up. Dont need but about a 1/2 inch to make it right, I like the way Hoppos did it!

Late to the party but extended my upper arms using your method and worked absolutely great (the 2nd time lol) but I was wondering is it still safe to do side to side with extended arms? Seems like it almost binds up on the drop

My friend has a glass eye from using a grinder with a wire wheel and no safety glasses. You only get one pair of eyes.
Not to mention the amount of times I've had one of those cutting wheels explode on me aswell, I prefer safety glasses and a face shield.

It is to accomodate decent geometry throught its entire swing.
It's actually to accommodate the cyl cylinder. That's the reason it had to be stretched and part of the top took out.
Are you using the same wire wheel to clean the grease and dirt to clean the metal before the welds

Late to the party but extended my upper arms using your method and worked absolutely great (the 2nd time lol) but I was wondering is it still safe to do side to side with extended arms? Seems like it almost binds up on the drop
Extending your arms should not effect side motion endless somewhere theybare not true or squared up
