You guys should call it AIRRAID because of its military background and the fact that there’s so many things on it that have to do with air like the suspension and the supercharger
This is turning out so good! One thing that I think could add to the effect of the build is having the rear come up higher than the front (when aired up). Kinda like the old school hot rod stance.
R. Lee Ermy was as was the Hartman character he played, quite distinguished and honorable. Private Pyle however was a real piece of work. Please call this build Private Pyle. It is more than fitting and perfect.
You guys are living my dream. I caught the first half earlier today and figured I'd have to wait a month for the update and it magically appeared today. I raced crappy/janky (but super fun) go-karts as a kid and I can smell the fumes every time I watch. Thank you.
You guys ought to look into a couple of push-pull 3-way pneumatic valves so you can get rid of those clunky ball valves. They're cheap, too. Also look at a product called a "Snapindle". It is a floating idler for roller chain, and works for many applications. You knocked it out of the ballpark with that rat cart!
Needs military accents, ammo box, hand grenades and stuff like that. Make the steering wheel look like its the handle of a machine gun. So it looks like you are shooting while you drive.
With that Watts link pivot raised, it’s making the arms have different angles so it’s behaving like a short panhard rod and moving the axle side to side. The pivots where the arms meet the axle need to be raised if you want the centre pivot that high.
An air bag leveling valve would help control the ride height. Also a quick release valve to dump the bags that can be controlled by a single air switch. You can find all of these at a transport truck parts supplier.
If im not mistaken, the front link system you're making for keeping the front axle centered is called a "watts link" I may have spelled that wrong, but you'll get the point. Also the upper and lower links are supposed to be parallel with the axel at ride hight.
If you mig welded one side of the steering gusset, then immediately flipped to the other side, there was lots of heat in the metal for the second weld, hence the better penetration/smoother bead.
I'd suggest using a valve from a truck seat for the suspension. They inflate pretty quick and deflate a little slower. That would probably give it a cool dropping effect and a little less harsh on raising.
My current suggestion is The Armydillo, but I'm kinda sad it went military just because of the engine, should have a contest for the paint scheme ;P I go for a good weird 3-D wrap, or any kind, ya can always change yer mind, and the future, but rarely the past. Keep on keeping on, love your projects! An awesome episode and I learned a bunch as a bonus, wee beasty is quite an engineering project, and definately a knees more up than hanging on the outer edge unless you build a nice dashboard that incorporates some nice padded cut-outs fer yer knees. A wonderful project once again and thanks for the laughs, when you popped the front I near lost it laughing. Though I have some (many) goofy ideas for the rear housing, my last thot was an aluminum beer keg cut to resemble the T-bucket style with some little fenders made fro the off-cuts. You guys are one of my favourite vicariously living channels and, were I a younger person I think I'd have me a shop o' fun :) Cheers from your fans in the PNW!
@@Ogsonofgroo I think that instead of us all saying "if I were younger"...we should start a go fund me, buy a 10,000 Sq. Ft. Shop, hook it up with all the old school machines we all have 45+ years of expertise on, and show these youngins what 5 centuries of combined experience can produce. Don't get me wrong, not this week. Sometimes it takes me a while to get out of my La-Z-Boy. 💺
I know that I have said it before, but damn,y’all have some of the craziest builds I have ever seen! I absolutely love the way you guys have an idea and then y’all just come together and bring it to life! That Diesel engine is going to be so sick and I can’t wait to see it rolling coal and hauling ass! I really hope that you plan on putting a turbocharger on it too, unless you have already? I don’t recall seeing you working on putting it on the engine,I haven’t finished the whole video yet either to be fair. I just had to leave my comment though, because y’all build some amazing stuff. This one is going to be extra bad ass,IMO!!!
Been thinking about a wheelie machine for the drag strip. One that has a frame that's attached to the wheels and a lightweight upper frame that's hinged at the rear and balanced in such a way that the upper portion raises up during acceleration while all four wheels remain firmly planted. The only problem would be constructing a steering system. Steering by wire would be an easy option. The pilot could sit on a seat, connected to the bottom frame or seated on a seat that rises with the top. If the former, the rise has to be limited so the pilot can always see where he's going.
In Australia late 70s / 80 s fords had your rod assembly on the diff , at ride hight the rods were level and the Center link vertical, there were two horns on the car , a high one for the upper arm and a low one for the lower arm . Raise the pivot point of the centre link it all needs to be level and equal at ride hight or you risk bump steer . Cheers
You'll need 8 valves in total for the air system. 1 up and 1 down for each bag. If you T bags together it will roll in the corners as the air will push from the outside to the inside bag as you turn. Isolation of each bag will mean you won't need sway bars.
Just wanted to let you know, they make rocker switches for air seats in semi trucks. Two rocker switches in the dash would work great for raise and lower of the suspension. Also, check out the air ride suspension on a semi, you will notice the air bags set on solid pedestal plates. Keep in mind, those air bags have a rating on them and can pop if over inflation occurs. Hope this helps. You should also make sure you shocks are fully extended before the air are maxed out to help prevent over extention of the air bags.
When migs came out, we were told to run verticals down. That was in the late 1960s. Then, 35 years later it's, no! You have to run uphill! I have been welding for over 50 years and have passed several certification tests running down hill!
IKR,that is one of the best movies for me when I was growing up! Great Military movie and a great movie in general. John really needs to see it ASAP!!!

Beat me to it😅
Was about to say it too
Everyone knows this.

THIS 🙏
I couldn't agree with this comment more it's perfect
Seconded.
This
Perfect
Making the air tank look like 2 side pipes would finish the roadster t bucket look. Fun build.
If you build a bed use a radio flyer wagon. Just cut it to the length you'd like. Great job so far
IMHO, the only acceptable body style is a WWII belly fuel tank,, a Ford Model T body , or a wheelbarrow, nothing else will meet the visual aesthetics.
Private pile. Fits just right. One of best war movies of all time.
The warbarrel
The warbarrow
General Disarray, for a good south park reference
Love the Build Guys keep it up looks Awsome.... FYI That's a Watts Link Not a pan hard bar. Better design than a Pan Hard anyway...

I'm really digging it guys cannot wait to see it finished
I believe the center pivot of the watts link should be attached to the axle and the tie rods to the frame.
I love the idea of the air suspension... it's going to be interesting to see how it performs, I think it has a lot of potential to be great!
100% but for the rat rod thing this is it's a perfect lowrider
Man y’all keep up the great builds y’all are doing.
It'll handle amazing with the engine so far behind the axle

Plus the fact that it's a military engine.
Maybe Full Metal Bucket. Reference the T-Bicket style?
Corporal punishment.. c'mon now 😂
That's good.
If they do that then they gotta get together with grind hard plumbing so they can meet colonel senders
Good one!
Or calateral damage, a military term for the excess damage and life loss. that's just part of war. because of all the chaos in building this vehicle.

Colonel Sender's is still the best build that has ever been built on YT. and probably always will be?
You guys should use a mini beer keg for a gas tank👍🏻

Great ideas, just don’t make it too corny.
It's called a "watts link" for the front. Same as the rear suspension on a p.t. cruiser
However, PT Cruisers are piece's shit.

Private Pyle or Major Disaster? I'll reserve judgement until the end of the video. 😄
You need to put door braces or roll cage around the body to help support that rear

It's called a watts link. Also a panhard bar setup correctly
(level at ride height )moves the same direction up or down in the travel. It's an arc.
