      The only thing unfortunate about this game is that Luka could have had another Atlanta game and decided to stop shooting. But it was super smart! Why? Because if Luka drops 60 or 70 and the rest of his team just sits by, their confidence wouldn't be the same as them participating in this game. They feel like they won as a team rather than Luka doing everything. That could mean a lot later.

      D live opens up the floor with his passing. It really opens up the pick and roll game and then they are able to get gafford involved with lobs. Lively can catch a bounce pass coming off the pick and roll and dunk from way back. When Lively doesn't play, Gafford can still get some dunks but it doesn't really open up the game as much. When lively set the screen and then rolls out, he catches a bounce pass just short of the free throw line. They don't know if he's gonna dunk, pass to the perimeter, or give and go with the guard. It's beautiful basketball

Each one is a dagger ... Boston may have a chance but it will mainly pivot around Porzingis, his larval of play and his health. 1. How much do you think Luka could score if he didn't have such prolific courty vision and a team mentality. He looks like he could drop 20 a quarter at anytime but he wants the team to be hot.

    • @Shiftyy236
      @Shiftyy236 4 місяці тому

      I think what luka is averaging right now is his max, maybe he could add on 1-2 points to get it to 35 ppg. The reason for this is that once he gets as hot he did teams try to double hard off the pick n roll, and in that case it he passes it and it’s a 4 on 3 for the rest of the guys. Plus him scoring 20 was because he went 8-10 80% in the quarter, which for even a prolific scorer for him, is not a common occurrence. Shooting 40-45% for the quarter is way more common. I also think his passing helps get his bigs and shooters going, which is key for any successful basketball team because the role players often contribute 40-50 points

    • @winstonstowers9121
      @winstonstowers9121 4 місяці тому

      @Shiftyy236 I agree 20 a quarter is not sustainable it was more a hyperbole from me but I'm specifically talking about your own point about his passing to get his team going. Some players don't worry about that they just focus on scoring, I'm saying if he wanted to try do that would he score a couple of 50 point games and average 40 for a series? Not saying it winning basketball more wondering what he could average

    9 points to agree or disagree:
    Celtics problems:
    1. They were hindered from growing in the post season due to weaker conference and injuries; didn’t have the blessing of going through rough patches lately.
    2. Don’t have a jordanesque, psychopath, competitive and clutchtime maniac. Jason and Jalen are awesome, just not out-of-this world awesome down the wire.
    3. (Jason said this, not me) Mavs know their roles better, celts are all great and can each do it all, but are less focused or specialized in their specific chores.
    4. They are not as consistent, and tend to go through bad stretches, with turnovers. They still get caught sleeping at times (just remember their 2 losses and lucky-as-hell overtime win vs pacers). All 3 at home, by the way.
    5. Mavs can adapt better to styles of play and team completely different. They can either shoot the lights out or just dunk the lights out; or both. They also can make real time adjustments, because Kidd (kinda like Luka), reads the game in almost real time.
    6. Luka and Kyrie play like 35 year-old vets. Boston doesn’t choke anymore, but the Mavs simply crave on pressure and clutchtime situations.
    7. They depend too much on 3-pointers. Mavs have deeper array of weapons and strategies.
    8. Boston didn’t face any team with Dallas-level rim protection in this postseason.
    9. Too much pressure being favored, having the best record, and having been there and all. Mavs have already overachieved this season. Nothing to lose.

      Those are all great points. I'm taking the Mavs in the series too. The only point I'd disagree with you on is #1. Although the C's have faced little to no adversity this postseason, the core group of guys have been to the finals once and to the conference finals several times over the last few years. I think they've been through enough adversity even if it hasn't been this year.
      It should be a great series!

    I think the Wolves actually thought the job was done when they defeated the Nuggets. They stopped playing defense after that series. They used to pick up Jamal on the opposite side of the court, and harass him throughout. They should have done the same with Luka and Kyrie. Admittedly, they are better than Jamal, but I didn't see the Wolves even trying. They were not better than the Nuggets in the conference semifinals, just had a lot of luck in game seven, because the Nuggets inexplicably collapsed and couldn't buy a bucket in the second half

    Hey Jason! As you've spoken about on the show, one of the Mav's key attributes that has led them to the finals is their rim protection. One thing we haven't talked about much however is their perimeter defense, which ranks among the bottom of league this season. Although this wasn't a factor in the Minnesota series due to Minnesota not being a very good perimeter offense, or jump shooting team in general, do you expect this to be factor in how the finals goes when considering Boston's elite perimeter players in Derrick White, JT, etc. Love the vids :)

    Gobert's fit against Luka and Kyrie was disastrous. Both do not need to go to the rim to score, they abuse the midrange, in addition to having the ability to find Lively or Gafford in the paint after moving him. It's very problematic to me, that an elite defense relies so much on a player who can be so exploited outside of the paint. In several plays, Luka simply received a screen, and shot before reaching Rudy.

    Hi Jason, thanks for the insights. I have been tuning into them for most of this season. Almost each episode I learn something new. Your commentary appears to fill a void in the NBA. Specifically, a space somewhere between novice and John Hollinger. Which is the place I like to think I am at.
    At about the 20 minute mark, you mentioned that ‘it is impossible to win a title while having a centre (Gobert) who is a non-factor on offence!’. This is an interesting argument, indeed, a question naturally arises. If true, then how did Gobert get traded for five first round picks, plus four role players? How does Danny Ainge keep doing it?
    (If you have time for another question, here. If you were the Timberwolves GM, would you ever trade KAT for LeBron? You could sweeten the deal with picks and role players. And you could involve Atlanta, to make it a three team trade. KAT and a guard moves to Atlanta; Lakers get Dejounte Murray, Kyle Anderson and numerous first round picks; Wolves get Lebron?)

    Has this series completely justified why you don’t pay particular attention to individual season awards? We all acknowledge that Rudy is as you say, a top 5-7 defender, but I think it has been proven that AD, Wemby and Bam are all much better all round defenders. Yes the T-wolves were the overall best defensive team of the regular season, and at times in the post season, but Rudy has benefited from having some outstanding defensive players around him. To me it’s clear that the 3 I mentioned earlier are just much better defensive players, so the DPOY award doesn’t seem to truly count for what it should.

If that happens, where do you think is the best landing spot for KAT? Detroit has the cap space to absorb him as a starting C, they immediately gets a go-to scorer & floor spacer to help Cade/Ivey + Ausar can mimic the McDaniels role as well as anyone. NOLA is another option, Pels get their C and can space out the floor for Zion to attack the rim + an Ingram/McDaniels/Gobert frontcourt has plenty of length. Any other spots that come to mind???

    The issue with the idea of Minnesota moving away from their amazing inside defense and focusing mostly on perimeter defense, is that you do not beat Denver in a 7-game series if you value perimeter D more than inside D. And without the double bigmen set-up you cannot slow down Jokic. The T-Wolves do not beat Denver if they do not have Gobert at the 5.

    Mailbag: You mentioned how Timberwolves can be counter lack of defense without Gobert with the example of Gordon in Denver, my thought with that idea is that Gobert (like you also mentioned before) anchors that defense a ton and he’s so good at it because that’s all he focuses on (compared to other players like dray or Ad etc) and so getting rid of Gobert will significantly put a load on those perimeter players to HAVE step up defensively including Ant and that’s a lot to ask on both ends of the floor (in a long term) for a team that only has 1 sometimes 2 shot creators. And so running against a team like mavs, if those perimeter are somewhat useless, that’s a death sentence for Minnesota. I hope my thought makes sense and great show Jason, I really enjoy watching every show

Compared to Tatum Giannis and Embiid rely more on their talent and physical strengths to over power a team’s defense, which can only take you so far.
