Congratulations on your new pick up (E7); very well deserved! I share your content with my squad nearly everyday. As it helps me im sure it can help others.
in the Marine Corps they used to call these "career billets" as they were required if you wished to stay in the Marine Corps past 12 years into a career contract or have any reasonable chance of making Gunnery Sergeant (E-7). Your main options were Recruiter or Drill Instructor though if you got in on it early you could choose Marine Sentry which had a very strict age, fitness, and evaluation standard most Marines could not meet and most didn't get into their career billet till their 2nd shore duty tour which would put them at their 8 to 9 year mark which would make them too old for going into the Sentry program. Your other option for avoiding the need for a career billet was to ether be so high flying and "important" that your deemed essential to your Marine Corps as a whole (super rare and only the best of the best ever get this honor) or go special operations aka Marine Raider (Marine Version of SEALs) but that's a whole other can of worms that also requires you to be the best of the best.
Question I’m a Drill Sergeant in BCT now and on my NCOER broadening assignment the senior rater put Recruiter. Does that matter? Knowing it is his overall decision of what he sees but he knows I would like to go to the Drill sergeant Academy as a DSL hopefully. I was thinking about reaching out to him. I knw Recruiter is good but I Dnt feel it is in my path at all
Yeah it’s in your career map but if you do drill normally you won’t do recruiting. SGL at NCOES, instructor for AIT and yeah even DSL is good. It won’t hurt your ncoer whatsoever though.
There are 4 basic training locations, but only 1 DS Academy. Edit: nvm. I’m a little lost now myself when he said Fort Knox. I know some NCO’s who went there but no new soliders
