    Great video! I'm really excited about the D750. One thing I was expecting you to point out was that this camera in a lot of ways is what D300/D300S owners have been waiting for. The D7000 series lacked features the D3xx series had, and it lacked a strong buffer. The D600 series lacked several key controls (dpad click to zoom) and functions (wide bracketing) and was designed to be more of a beginner's full frame. I briefly owned both a D7100 and a D600, and returned both of them because I felt like I was losing out on key things about my D300 that I loved.
    But the D750 nails it from what I've seen so far. It has everything the D300 has, and much more. I've been waiting years for Nikon to release a D400 or something similar, but my wait is over. I'll be ordering a D750 very soon!

    Great video! "The most capable DSLR in the market for video right now", wow that is interesting! I really love the flat profile option, but I wish Nikon offered an Intra-frame option in-camera like Canons models.
    Jordan, would be interested to hear if you still think this after the release of the 7D MII!

    Great review of the Nikon D750 guys. Got a Nikon D750 in a kit with the Nikkor AF-S 24-120 f4 VR zoom lens and I'm very happy I did. The Nikon D750 did end up being the Nikon camera I was waiting for.

    TheCameraStoreTV Some hot topics for you guys:
    - 7D II and NX1 (vs X-T1 vs D7100 vs A77 II possibly)
    - LX100* and G7X (vs RX100 III and maybe with the G1X II as well)
    - Panasonic CM1
    - Fuji X100T
    *a video quality comparison with the GH4 and even the RX100 III will be welcomed and please, test some Variable ND filters with the LX100 because I'm figuring that it will be required for anyone wanting to shoot video outdoors

    I'm glad I watched the whole video before commenting. I get a little annoyed when people always assume that it has to replace something. I think Nikon is trying to attract different buyers with different budgets. Some prefer to not spend the extra money because a D610 is plentiful for their needs and so on. Just look at car companies, they have different vehicles for different budgets and purposes just like a Mustang GT will never replace a F150 Raptor. That's one reason I hope a D300 replacement will come eventually :(

    Got the camera today. About the size of my D7100. Deeper grip is nice. First thing I did was to shoot at 12,800 ISO in my garage. Shot some unremarkable items with some fine print. Very accurate focus and the noise at 12,800 is like the noise on my D7100 at 800 ISO. Its simply amazing. Very happy.

  • @BillFerris

    Thank you for producing a review of the D750 that did not try to force this square peg into the round hole of being either a D700 replacement or a D610 killer. Anyone who takes a closer look at this camera's design, specs and performance will find - exactly as you said - that it doesn't fit into an already existing category. I think of it as a crossover; a camera that borrows features from entry-level, enthusiast and professional bodies to create what is arguably the best all-around, do everything DSLR body on the planet.

  • @AndersCMadsen
    @AndersCMadsen 10 років тому +1

    I think your last comment sums it up nicely: The D750 really has a place on its own in the Nikon lineup, and with the price reductions that already has been put in place on the D610 (at least where I live), I think there is room for both of them.
    I think the D750 will satisfy a lot of users who don't need the massive files from the D810, and although they will most likely have to be dragged kicking and screaming into it, I think the D700 users will eventually see that there are some pretty neat features in this camera for them - albeit without the 8 frames per second shooting.
    As for the complains I have seen online regarding build quality not being like the D700: Get over it. I came from a Canon 1Ds MKII to the D610 and while there is a difference, it's not something that bothers me and the camera still feels like a tool, not a toy. I imagine that the D750 will be even better than the D610 in that regard.

    • @TheCameraStoreTV
      @TheCameraStoreTV  10 років тому +2

      I agree Anders! The D610 is still very usable and the new D750 feels so much more like a solidly constructed body. Credit has to be given to Nikon for making a body that is made largely of plastic yet feels solid and dependable while shaving off a bunch of weight. Once people get it in their hands they may feel differently. Thanks for watching!

    Subscribed.
    The front body and front cover are constructed from carbon-fiber reinforced thermoplastics, while the rear and top covers are magnesium alloy: 4:25 -- The use of carbon fiber prevents cracks and increases strength, that it is a thermoplastic means it resists melting. You could probably drop it from from 6 feet a dozen times without cracking the Case, that does not mean the internals would still operate.
    No end of useful Features: 6:05 -- Perfect for UA-cam Videos, but not yours; I had a girl in mind (Thanks, Cpt. Obvious).
    It is Nikon's claim: "In addition, adoption of new algorithms with EXPEED 4 achieves faithful color reproduction and minimizes noise at high sensitivities. Specifically, the D750 even surpasses the D810 in image quality at high sensitivities, and the large pixel pitch delivers advantages in definition, depth, tonal gradation and clear color.". (Source: www.nikon.com/news/2014/0912_dslr_01.htm ).
    Definitely a great attempt to cut into the high end Market without actually dissuading the real Pros from the truly high end stuff. This really does seem to cater well to DSLR Videophiles, I'm not sure you could do too much better (in this Category).

    I'm still rocking the Nikon D3200! Next year I'm thinking about upgrading to mid - range if new models come out. I would love it if Nikon continues the D7000 series complete with 4K video recording capabilities.

  • @nick2var
    @nick2var 10 років тому +5

    I don't know why some people keep complaining about some features. Full frame DSLRs were always a profesional's privilege. Now that we (amateurs and pros) have a more affordable full frame with a great IQ and overall performance in terms of AF you keep complaining!!!!!I mean, if you want the whole thing save some money for some years and go buy a D4s...it is that simple. Yes Nikon has made mistakes and marketing tricks but....take a look at the camera. Maybe if it had 1/8000 speed and 1/250 sync, it would ''kill'' the D810 in terms of sales...think about it. That is just my opinion...

    • @shalamov.r
      @shalamov.r 7 років тому

      Same here. People really use 1/8000 that often to complain about missing it?

  • @agoniavr

    10:54 is the fact you're putting the D750 over the MKIII for video a sensation you had after using it for a while or you actually tested it and it IS better?
    I've been shooting with my old Canon 20D(non professional use) for a while and it reached all its limitations. Now I want to do the big step and considering I'm already a graphic designer/web designer I'd love to expand into some shooting and expecially video since I'm already trained to mount, do post and some vfx.
    The fact is I thought you needed the MKIII to be "taken seriously" or do decent stuff, there's the Canon 7D too but the new one is a disappointment for all professionals I heard about since it doesn't seem a really good update.
    I started watching Nikons and the D810 may be a bit too much but the more I discover about the D750 the more I'm in love with it.
    So, could you take professional video shooting with this camera and Nikon lenses or there's something about it making it more aimed towards the "prosumer" instead of the professional user?

    • @TheCameraStoreTV
      @TheCameraStoreTV  10 років тому +2

      That conclusion was formed by the Nikon D750 shooting sharper video than the 5D MK III, and performing better in low light. Nikon's Flat Profile is also very nice. I can't think of a facet that the 5D MK III outperforms the D750 in, video-wise.
      If you have Canon glass though, I would also strongly suggest checking out the Sony A7S and Panasonic GH4. Killer cameras!
      Jordan @ TCSTV

    • @agoniavr
      @agoniavr 10 років тому

      Thank you Jordan!
      Actually I don't need a video-oriented camera and that's why I wanted to stick with DSLR's but I'll check that two for sure, I love technology in general!
      That being said I was thinking about switching brand because A) my camera is super duper old and Nikon in general is better now and B) I only had the 18-55 which broke accidentally, the 50mm 1.8 which my auntie lent me for a while and the 70-300 which is my only personal lens...so it could be the best time to change without re-investing in the exact same lenses I already had.
      I didn't know much about Nikon but the more I read and listen the more it seems Canon is really behind in every possible aspect right now...and that's why I wonder why the MKIII is so popular if Nikon has more fresh bodies, better performance etcetera.
      There's quite a lot of semi-pro filmers shooting commercials or shorts with the MKIII, still haven't found one using Nikon for some reason.

    Chris, the RX1R has a 24 MPixel Full Frame sensor and they removed the AA filter. So the technology exists, and from their sensor manufacturer even. :)
    i think they left the AA filter on to get moiré and aliasing under control for video enthusiasts, instead. even if their choice of codec is still lacking, to say the least.

    Thank you so much for the video. I’m planning to purchase my very first DSLR which is Nikon D750 along with 85mm 1.8 + 50mm 1.8 G lens. I’m wondering is it still worth to buy this camera considering 5 years old?.
    Purpose of buying a camera is for taking Portraits, Still, Landscape, Bird, Product photography (learning) and of course my kids.
    It would be really great if you throw some lights on my concern to make a wise decision.... other options I have considered is Nikon D780 with one of the lens and Z6ii with the kit lens... apart from D780 and Z6ii I have been suggesting to go with D850 with the kit lens.
    Thank you and looking forward to your recommendation.

In the online manual that's been released online it appears that depending on the lens used the number of cross type focus points available may be limited as well as how many of the 65 focus points are available to use.

    Excellent review Chris and Jordan. Best on the web - as always! As a D7000 user thinking of my next upgrade, the D750 sounds really impressive. Maybe the name is simply from the camera's weight? Anyway, I really like the fact that it's not too heavy yet is a weather-sealed full-frame with the focusing system from the D4S and D810, plus has U1 & U2 custom settings, a great battery life and a tall grip. The swivel screen and built-in Wi-Fi are a couple of extras which could be useful too. No camera is perfect but this all looks very nice indeed. Next time I travel from Northern Ireland to Canada I hope to call in to The Camera Store. Regards, Mark

    Great honest unbiased video!! Thank you for this!
    I had a question which everyone seems to be asking. How noisy is the shutter? And how's the feel when you take a shot? Does it feel like the D810 when taking a picture (the shutter has a softer clicking) and is it as quiet as the D810? Thank you!

    • @TheCameraStoreTV
      @TheCameraStoreTV  10 років тому +2

      Hey Thanks for bringing this up because I failed to mention it in the video. Its not the same shutter as the D810 but the shutter has a similar and very discreet shutter sound coupled with the incredibly smooth and dampened shutter response when firing. I will say the D750 and D810 are some of the most stable platforms I've used and make slow shutter speeds even more usable.

    Hello there,
    I actually just bought the Nikon D750 with the kit lens & I wanted to buy a second body & I'm debating between the Nikon D3s (used but good condition), or another D750 (brand-new or just used), or a used D810 (also used but good condition), I only shoot JPEG, I don't shoot sports, or wildlife, but pretty much everything else, from Weddings, portraits, live events, fashion shoots you name it… I was originally using the D700 & I was extremely happy with it (I still own it)|… It's only drawback it did not have video, I also don't use postprocessing that often except when highly needed… I shoot small clips and/or small episodes… So what is your recommendations for me is the video on the Nikon D3s, horrible? Considering the fact that I shoot only JPEG would the large files of the D810 really make a difference?
    Please provide your opinion based on picture quality/sharpness/colors and focusing system.
    Thank you very much for your time, I highly appreciate it… :-)

    I only have one thing to say, even though the body is 1000 dollars more. Sony a7iii, no questions asked. What you get and the quality you can put out with real time eye AF is just so epic and changes everything. That 1000 you put down will give you features that are found in much more expense cameras.
    But I'd get one of these too

    Jordan there's nothing to blame you for since you probably didnt know that at the time you recorded the review, but for video the 7DmkII is offering the full-res 60p too and since you will probably review that too i guess you're gonna be pleased for the ALL-I coded there, even tho i have no idea about the moiree and aliasing on that thing. I hope to see a review of the new lenses presented at photokina too, that'd be great! :D

      ***** Also, loneinshades was talking about video. In my opinion it's not a comparison of apples and oranges, look at the GH4 and A7S for example. People have been comparing those two cameras for a while now, because they are quite competitive for video, regardless of the sensor size. The surface area of the full frame sensor in the A7S is 4x larger. DSLRs could do so much better in the video area compared to those video beasts. The output of the D750 does, however, look pretty decent. I sincerely hope the 7D Mk II output doesn't look as mushy as the other Canons (without ML firmware ofc).

    • @loneinshades
      @loneinshades 10 років тому +12

      ***** you clearly are not really into films are you? a super 35 sensor, that basically is the size of an APSC sensor is found in cameras like the c100 or the RED epic if you will... most of the hollywood films are shot on RED cameras, and all of them are having a super 35 so a close to APS-C sized sensor... And for example cameras like the Canon film production cameras are having a great low light performance... Trust me, if you are into video production, sensor size is the absolute last of your problems. Get informed before you make statements that are absolutely wrong and nosense :)

    +TheCameraStoreTv I was thinking of getting a D750 but recently the price for the D4 (D3s) is quite comparable. I mainly take photos in low light, portraits and sports. Others such as landscape, wildlife photography and videos I do once in a while take. Which camera would you suggest or rather which is bang for buck? Cheers

    Great review! I'm currently a Nikon D7100 user looking to upgrade to a full-frame camera. I was looking to invest into a Nikon D810 as first until Nikon announced the D750. I'm glad I waited. The initial press release was mostly introduction of the product and a few text review. I was looking more into a video review. I'm glad you guys did a more in-depth look at this new camera and have given some enlightenment to a few questions in mind. I'm a huge follower of your channel. Keep up the good job!!! I'm looking forward to more videos in the future.

Previously I have used nikon and canon aps-c format. I am really confused among nikon d750 and canon 6D and the sony a7 series. My budget is not more than 2000-2200 usd. What body should I go for??

    There is so much I love about the D750 on the spec chart, and I'm almost convinced to purchase it to use along side my D800. However the difference in ergonomics (button placement), the lack of AF-ON button, and to a much smaller point the 1/4000" max shutter and lower flash-x sync I don't know if it's worth it anymore for me personally.... I may rent to try it out.
    On the note of flash sync, would you guys at TCSTV be upto doing some reviews of flash/studio gear? I'd love a feature on the Prophoto B1 :)

    and what is the way to go if you want to go mirrorless ? I want to go mirrorless, but no mirrorless camera is 100% wear it needs to be yet, the GH4 is great if video is your number one priority, but for stills I don't want a 4/3 sensor, the XT1 is maybe the best compromise as far as having close to full frame image quality and ISo performance, but being able to have smaller than full frame lenses, the Sony A7 series of cameras are amazingly close to ending the DSLR market, but still need some improvements and more fast glass, but if the next generation of A7 cameras, would ad articulating touch screens, and faster focusing, and silent electronic shutter options, you can say goodbye to a huge part of the DLSR market, I would sell my Canon gear tomorrow, and If Nikon would put out a D750 or D810 mirrorless, and join the future, i'd be a happy man, because the future is mirrorless, but at least this D750 is 750 gram, and not 950 like a 5Dlll, if the D750 was out when I bought my 5Dlll, I wouldn't of switched from Nikon to Canon

      I agree, the best right now for stills and size is the X-t1, but sadly it doesn't have hygh speed sync...I'm looking at the X100T, if you don't need a zoom it seems the best option.

    • @Thalestin
      @Thalestin 10 років тому

      I agree with you. Mirrorless is coming along but it still has a long way to go in the lens department as well with some fine tuning with things such as auto focus. Maybe another 5 years or so and our big bodied friends may be history, but only time will tell.

    You said the camera doesn't have RAW processing yet? Does this mean when I take photos in RAW, that I cannot upload them to my computer and edit them using Lightroom and/or Photoshop? I only shoot in RAW, so this will be a deal-breaker.

      Because most people want to watch some reviews that are not boring and worth to sit through, like top gear, DRTV does the job and still provide useful information that most people wanted to know, most of the photographer viewers on youtube are amateur shooter, they want fun stuff like what's on TopGear, and DRTV does that, that's why people call it Photography TopGear.
      Not saying this channel isn't good, it provide more useful information than DRTV, but it has less diversity than DRTV like tutorials and funny ideas.

    "If you're still into DSLR video, and don't want to go mirrorless." That statement by Jordan pretty much sums up the video market right now. Canon doesn't give two shits about the budget-minded filmmaker. Panasonic, Sony, and I guess Nikon now deserve your money.
