    I grew up with Jack Webb. I’m a retired Marine. Jack Webb as the D.I. Was our Marine Corps.

    $80 might not sound like much to lose but that was 1953. 70 years later, we are looking at ~$900 for a fake wristwatch and pen/cil set. And $250 back then is nearly 3 grand now--for a phony necklace and stationery kit.

      In 1969 my dad charged 68$ a month for a one-bedroom apartment in the San Francisco Bay Area. So yeah... That's a lot in the 1950s.

    Reminds me of the bible scam, as seen in the film Paper Moon. BTW, Paper Moon has just come on youtube for free. It's a GREAT movie, well worth watching.

      Today it requires a warrant to search an apartment or hotel room but back then the landlord could usually give consent. Maybe they got a warrant here and just left that out.

      makes me wonder why a cop has to put a lock on his locker in a police locker room. Aren't they supposed to be upholding/enforcing the law? Who are they trying to keep out of their lockers?
