Well, for starters your amazing; i cant thank you enough. This video really helped; very detailed. Liked and subscribed - and definitely sharing your work.
what a brilliant video, if this comes up in the exam i could feed off so many marks, thank a lot hope the others are as good as this one. Definitely liking and subscribing.
Doggo Kiddo That is very helpful, thank you. Aw i love that poem, did it go well for you (your gcses)? Hopefully we get a family one this year as i like those over love ones
I've got my mocks to do and I'm shitting it I've already done crap in my previous English tests and my parents dont know that the tests are this week they know its before Christmas but they dont know it's this week I want to cry I'm so upset I dont want to disappoint them but I know I will when I fail I want to go tell them but I know they'll get really bad but I want to cry and hug my mom but she'll be furious if I tell her
Yes. My point is that the rhyme scheme up to the line 'thy vows are all broken' is ABABCDCDEFEF, which is the rhyme scheme of a Shakespearean sonnet. Following that form, the next two lines should rhyme (GG) but they don't. So the poem breaks from the rhyme scheme of a sonnet on the line 'thy vows are all broken'.
@@mrbruff Would comparing this poem with sonnet 29 make for a good complex comparison? I havent seen many compare the 2, and the similarities between them are evident... im my opinion of course 😀
Can i say that , it could be argued that the poetic inversion of this line puts an emphasis on the importance of how he cannot express his pain due to this being a secret affair?
Can u say that the accentual verse of 2stressed syllables represents his heartbeat and so when it’s broken his hear beats faster (3 stressed syllables in one line) because of the shock he felt or would that not make sense coz of the normal line between them which follows the accentual verse ???
First of all thank you, it was really helpful, second if anyone could jump into the discussion of how the lovers really separate from each other? didn't get this part, thanks in advance
If this poem comes up i'm fine; what is the chance of that though? By the way was that correct use of semi colon because I did it without even thinking, just replaced fanboy 'but' and saw the two sentences would have made sense on their own.Would like a response if this is how you use a semicolon because they love those in English language section B. Thanks :)
In this video you said that the rhyme scheme ended, but it still carries on throughout the poem. So how does the poem stop following a sonnet form at 'the vows are all broken'. Great video nonetheless
could I say that the fact that Byron (or the speaker) valued this love affair so much like a marriage, represents why his feelings are so deep about this lover in the poem? and because he wasn't yet married, it could suggest that the fact that he seems to talk about vows with alot of his lovers in the poems, that he wanted to be part of marriage and maybe was jelous of his love affairs because they were married and he wasnt at the time? Its quite complicated and long :(
Hi Mr. Bruff, quick question - Will writing about context be assessed and will reference to the poet's lives or situations be of any use to me? Im getting a bit mixed up about which sections context is assessed in and how i should go about referring to it. Thanks for your help.
They both will be assessed in different ways. Context will be assessed in assessment objective two by the examiner while the poets life will be assessed in assessment objective 3 by the examiner. You get 12 marks in total for AO2 and 10 marks in total for AO3. So you aren't confused, AO2 isnt only about context its also about work level analysis, structure and from, while AO3 is just all about wider reading which shows you have gone beyond to search about the poets life, who he was, who the poem was about and how it relates to his other poems. Hope this helped!
I have a question- why do we first, in the video, learn about the background of the poem and stanzas which are not there? Do we have to write about it in the exam?
This is one of the few channels that breaks down structure and form of a poem in such a precise and clear way.
