It did in the manga, Sesshoumaru finds out about his human form- calls him hideous and disgusting looking, but doesn't attack. They cut out way too much from the manga- like how Sesshoumaru is always calling Rin annoying and irritating and to be silenced, not to touch him, barely has any patience for her (apparently to many fans he's a loving doting father to her??) causing Jaken to take on an role of guidance/advisor/fatherly role to Rin (especially in the later chapters) - verified by Rumiko Takahashi and the Japanese voice acting staff. In the manga Sesshoumaru randomly picks up on Kagura's scent when she's dying (while trying to sniff out Naraku)- not during battle, he goes to her to save her because he wants her to keep helping him in the war against Naraku. He felt great pity for her death- causing tensaiga to call out to Totosai. Kagura's love for Sesshoumaru was unrequited (confirmed by Rumiko Takahashi)- it just fan baiting encouraged by the studio. It wasn't until Rin's death that Sesshoumaru finally truely felt/learned grief and sorrow and compassion for the 1st time. When making the sequel, the director asked Rumiko Takahashi who she wanted to be Sesshoumaru wife - she freely choose adult Rin (after being raised by granny Kaeda) - saying that she was the woman who changed Sesshoumaru heart, and finally revealing the true meaning of Rin's name = dignified.
