    I like this for power outage situation. I usually have 5 or 6 fully charged 18v batteries. Also if someone got this specifically for a potential power outage they could buy a marine battery and keep it charged and ready for a longer term outage. I’m wondering if you can plug a solar panel into the 18v input on the side by the battery port. If so you could possibly charge your other 18v batteries with the inverter via solar.

      It depends on what you are running and how efficient that particular device is on a modified sine wave inverter. But I have something like 10 x 4 Ah batteries and 6 x 3 Ah. The older 150W inverter actually topped out at 200W and ran the battery all the way with no problems.

    The rotary tool was skipping because that inverter, like most, is a modified sine inverter, not a true sine inverter (which are more expensive).

      That's a deal breaker for me. When it first came out, I was thinking about using this unit to power my photo printer and strobes for my photo-booth business. However, my strobes require pure sine wave, not sure about my printer ? At first I thought the 12 Volt adapter input allowed you to get 800W, but you only get 120W with that input, 300W with the batteries. A 6Ah battery costs more than the inverter itself !

    I could see using this for tail-gating, camping, maybe in a small cabin or on a boat. It's pretty versatile, in that it can provide power three different ways...but I will also say that none of those ways is particularly great at what it's doing. That MSW inverter is very old technology. I understand that they went that way to work with all three inputs, but having the 120v AC inverter be a separate, PSW unit would have made it a much better product.

    • @GrenlandUnderVann

      @@GrenlandUnderVann - I watched another video, with a Ryobi rep, who stated that it's using a MSW inverter. The smaller inverters that use the 18v batteries are also MSW. Only the larger inverters that work with their 40v batteries are PSW, from this guy was saying.

    Disappointing you can't draw 500w from a one plus battery. I think the max draw on lithium is 30amps.

    • @justinsgarage1125
      @justinsgarage1125  2 роки тому +3

      You’re right, technically you could. But then you’re talking about incredibly short run time…drawing 500w with anything less than the 9ah battery(at the least a 6ah battery) wouldn’t get you much run time at all. Even the 40v inverters top out at 300w even though you can get more. It’s nice that this takes it to at least 300w with an 18v battery. Kobalt has an 80v inverter and even that tops out at 300w. At this point if you want significant power with 18v/20v batteries you have to go with the dewalt power station.

    • @randacnam7321
      @randacnam7321 2 роки тому +1

      This would make a lot more sense as a thing where you could connect 2 or 3 batteries so the load is spread out more between the batteries. A 500W load translates to an operating current of around 30A for the battery once inverter losses are accounted for, which is a lot for the battery contacts. It also means that a 9Ahr battery is being loaded at over 3C and a 4Ahr battery at well over 7C. Lithium ion cells can survive this, but it isn't the best for them on a sustained basis.

      @@justinsgarage1125 Maybe I didn't explain it properly... I'm suggesting taking another inverter, like a Bestek Pure Sine 300W inverter that's pretty low cost and seeing if this can power it with the 18v battery, via the 12v outlet it has, as obviously I can't use the 18v on the Bestek directly and DC to DC should be pretty efficient.
