JN Howard's music is cinematic magic. It captures a sense of otherworldly awe. That's something we have lost the ability to experience in our world today. Too much reality television and worthless celebrities take their toll on our imaginations.

Merrill : Clear for what? SFC Cunningham : For the rest of them.
I had forgotten about this scene until I saw it again yesterday. What a weirdo. Almost seemed like he was a Jim Carrey caricature, the way he separated everything he said.
That initial part really gives the feeling of something creeping in the dark, lurking and watching and waiting. Everything about this film and soundtrack really elucidates the predator/prey response in my instincts, I cannot state enough how this is one of the only films that genuinely terrifies me.
Did you catch how at 1:10 the hopeful theme from the ending plays? It's when Meril is recognized for having the record for how far the baseball travels. It's foreshadowing his talents that come in handy for the combat scene with the alien, but also musically foreshadowing the reuniting of the family, because this scene plays the same theme that eventually occurs around when Graham puts his pastor vestments back on, and when the cross is revealed to be back on the wall. In this movie, returning to faith is what reunites the family. Graham chooses to "see the signs, see the miracles" when his son's athsma protects his lungs from poison. Which echoes this concept in the recruiting office, of Meril choosing to only look at the positives. He ignores the guy making fun of his strikeout record, and instead chooses to simply state "it felt wrong not to swing," Which of course, foreshadows the "swing away" guidance from God.

Absolutely brilliantly made scene. The vague look on Merril's face combined with the cold almost dead like behavior of the officer was just brilliant.
I remember the first time watching this in cinema: Damn scary! The song perfectly fits the menace the recruiter is describing.
I wonder how this movie had looked like, if they had shown the Army battling the Aliens.....

It reminds me of a young boy looking up to his dad.
This piece reminds me of a very large flat of grasslands inside of a grove, and there's a lot of grey-blue fog surrounding the entire area.
