I am as white as they come, but I love this so much! I am eating this up like candy. I understand how this practice came to be, and I am so grateful for the work the ancestors did, and have so much admiration and respect for the way they had to practice to keep themselves as safe as possible. When I hear words from the Bible, I tear up and it hits me right in the heart. I want to learn all I can; and you are an amazing teacher!! Thank you for the work you do. Much love and respect to you!

Funny thing is I’m a southerner that grew up in church and considered myself Christian. So much of what I am learning from hoodoo, I watched my grandma and aunts do. I always thought it was the southern Christian way … lol

Yes I agree. The marketeers have things they add......including glitter and shiny things....to get people to buy stuff. Keep it simple, and do the research. ❤

    Marketeers are so frustrating.
Pro tip: if you find books on hoodoo. And they don't mention the Bible in some proper capacity, or its origins. Or they try to mix it with other magical practices. Or they try to generalize it by calling it a "folk practice that anyone can do"!
    Throw it away.

Pro tip from a real pro: Marketeers have been putting the Bible in hoodoo books for 20 years. So that’s not always reliable. The only reliable way is to avoid the books altogether.

I agree to a certain extent, however, the stars were studied since the beginning of time and in many cultures and civilizations. The ancient Egyptians studied the stars and planets and that was way before slavery so I don’t ,personally, think that our ancestors knew nothing about the moon and its phases and how to work with it. Even when they were out in the fields I’m sure they knew or had some idea because seasons existed too and seasons were also marked by the position of earth and astrology. I don’t know about anyone else but I like to think that my ancestors were very intelligent and were able to work under different conditions accordingly with or without the use of the moon, blood, etc. Under the circumstances, they did what they had to do. I agree, you don’t need all the extra stuff. You can work the root and hoodoo any day of the week, honestly. They did work with what they had. I agree with that.

Anytime you add, “I don’t know but I’d like to think that…”….
You’re writing a paragraph based off of emotion and assumptions. No fact. But there’s some if you’d like to learn.
      1. Never had I said we knew nothing about the moon. Just that we didn’t work with it. During slavery we had VERY limited time to do workings. If I had to wait 28 days for a moon phase to circle back around, we’re all dead. Fact. We’ve always worked with the sun. Fun fact from middle school science: moonlight itself is just reflected sunlight.
      2. We aren’t Egyptian. The vast majority of us in this country came from the west coast of Africa due to it being easier logistically for the slavers. Yoruba, Benin-Togo, Congo. (Orisha, Vodou, Palo respectively)
      3. Who said anything about seasons and earth positions? Useless argument filler when you lack factual talking points.
      4. Come to class or message me. Would love to talk more. 🙏🏽
