Battle of Manzikert (1071) | Sultan Alparslan - DOCUMENTARY

When Sultan Alparslan went on the Egypt Campaign, Romanian Diogenes attacked the Seljuks with the largest army in the history of Eastern Rome. Upon the arrival of the Roman army, Sultan Alparslan had to gather the Great Seljuk army and take action to meet him and postpone the Egypt Expedition.

Great video but the Byzantines had no where close to 200k men. The best estimate of their manpower was around 40k, anything over that is a gross exaggeration of numbers from the medieval period to inflate the turks own's prowess. The Byzantines never fielded an army over 50k in one place. According to John Haldon's "Warfare, State and Society in the Byzantine World, 565-1204," the entire byzantine army under Basil II never reached 150k, with the best estimate being around 110k for the entire empire. No where close to Justinian's time of 150-160k for the entire empire.
