I can't thank you enough for this beautiful tribute to my son Ron, and his band. I miss him SO much, that my heart hurts. This video showed him in his true element, and made me laugh and cry at the same time, he was such a goof ball at times. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I was in a band called Doomsday Mourning during this era and played with these dudes many times. FFD always killed it and I have some WILD stories with these guys. RIP Song’s Watergrille. RIP RON GILBERT
@@DieboldTSZthank you! I left in early 2013. They kept going, put out another record in I wanna say 2014-2015 and toured a bunch more before kinda going on hiatus.
Float Face Down, Scattered Through The Woods, Years Spent Cold, and At Rest were some of the best, if not the best death metal bands from South Jersey.
Thanks a lot buddy! I remember finding them through the ol classic blogspot days and downloading Bury Your Beliefs and it was gnarly! Exitium Verum was also always a favorite of mine growing up in high school. I remember when it dropped, picking up the cd and just being so stoked showing my friends being like TURN IT TF UP AND WITNESS THE HEAVY. Memories & moments of pulling over the car with everyone and throwing down in random parking lots😂😂😂 That’s how stoked it got you cruising around. The Broken Switch was on loop as well as the rest of the album. Listening to Ron always got me so hyped. Gone too soon RIP💎🎆
Ron, Rich, Mike were all good buddies of mine and my band (The Priory of Sion) back then. We'd run up and down Jersey weekend after weekend playing shows / going to shows / just being chaotic. The any combination shows of us, FFD, At Rest, The Charming, LIFES COLD GRIP, The Kisscut, Authors and so on never leave my brain, so much of my cash went to gas, wendys, and shows. Watching FFDs rise to popularity and being a part of that era, and friends with those dudes was nothing short of a good fucking time. Time separates people but the love was always, is always there. Seeing that Infest 2007 poster is crazy cause we were also on that bid, and we were all forced to sell tickets and since we shared the same friend group it was hard trying to get those tickets out lmao. RIP to Ron, we all miss you man.
Got to meet Ron when Float Face Down and Sea of Treachery were on a west coast tour like 12 years ago. He was so chill and cool to talk to and their live performance was top tier. Still one of my favorite shows
I was at their very very (actual) last show, it’s something that will stay with me for a life time. It was the most fun, energetic, unhinged night of my life. Got locked in, and nobody was getting out, and it was absolutely WILD. I miss them, and that era of time so much. The memorial show was also..absolute chaos..there is no way to fully describe the air that night. RIP to the legend Ron Gilbert.
Thankful I got to be around so often and see so many FFD shows. Awesome dudes. Awesome riffs. If I had a Time Machine…. Maaaan. Shoutout to Ron for the scar under my eye, I will miss you forever buddy. RIP🤘🏼
Good mention of Bamboozle! I was hoping that would come. When they won; it was HUGE for all the locals. Bamboozle was in the parking lot for MetLife stadium, where’s the NY giants play. Shit was P A C K E D and VIOLENT 🤘🏼
One of the hardest bands next to Elysia. Your channel is dope gonna watch all these 🔥🔥 I remember when Elysia Masochist first came out I was in middle school and then when I got hip to float face fown in highschool i will cherish those memories
Being a part of this era and playing shows with these guys all the time was nothing short of amazing. Ron, Rich and the whole FFD lineup evolutions were always amazing guys to play with and always pushed the scene forward. So many great memories playing countless shows with these guys as a part of He Among Us & Relics. RIP Ron
Experiencing this band first hand in the north east music scene was absolute insanity. Played with them countless times. True friends and such a fire band.
Rest in power Ronny!!! I was good friends with all these guys. These shows were always so much fun! I actually got to play with them at the emmure show. My ex singer from like the stars was their bassist, aj. I was there during the writing of many of these songs actually at the jam room in Howell and other studios. These are some of my fondest memories
They were an insanely heavy band. Growing up in that scene in New Jersey they were a band where you were absolutely terrified to get in their pits. One of my friends was knocked out cold and I had to drag him out of the venue it was gnarly.
This was an incredible video. That myspace footage was so nostalgic. There was nothing like a Float Face Down show. I remember walking to school jamming Bury Your Beliefs on repeat. Growing up in the NJ scene I can confidently say Float was one of the most inspirational bands around. A lot of us looked up to them growing up. What a sick era. RIP Ron
I played with these guys back in 2010 with my old band The Distance Between at show at a VFW in CNY, they were headlining and just started playing and they shut the lights off and their strobes caused a girl to go into an epileptic seizure and the show was stopped after that 😢 but they went hard out the gate!
gonna be honest i have been listening to deathcore since i was 15 and i had no idea about the existance of this band, will surely check them out, its also nice to see more youtubwrs like you covering the genre and its history, much love
Some of their legacy lives on with “Bleed NJ” ! They have one of Float Face’s previous drummers , Jimmy, behind the kit for them. There’s even a callout/tribute lyric in their track “Rythm of the Knife”. FLOATTTTT FACEEEE DOWNNNNN ! 🤘🏻 RIP Ron Gilbert.
Dang, I was just trying to find some old FFD merch the other day. Great video. Saw them back then at Dingbatz and MainStage.. the NJ deathcore and metalcore scene felt HUGE at the time!
Dude this made me so nostalgic and i'm definitely going back to hear some float face down. You should do a video about bodysnatcher, especially because they are linked with so many bands of this era.
So awesome you did this! Float has been my favorite local band since I saw them open infest 2008 and I was hooked. I still think they had some of the best guitar work in deathcore. I have footage from the last 2 shows with Ron on my channel. I think a clip in your video is from my video. Thank you 🤘🤘
Bro I’ve been following your content online, and listened to several of the podcast episodes so far, and am JUST realizing you’re the same person 🤦♂️🤣. LOVE your content ! Gonna follow on twitch right now!
Also, I got to open for float, my bitter end, TLTSOL, and Aegaeon on that Artillery Tour in Raleigh back in like 2011 or 2012, and was so cool to hear about that tour on the podcast, and was such a mind trip to hear about those days. Keep up the awesome work!
Loved this band and weirdly enough was just thinking about them. I have their CD somewhere around here from when I saw them in Salem, OR. Sick band and great story!
seen them since 09 all over NYC, from legit venues to bar backrooms and warehouses in staten island (RIP THE WAREHOUSE AND WATERGRIlLE) RIP ron hope you're at peace brother, thank you for this

I literally grinned when I saw this video. Thank you for talking about these guys! Also, literally as you mentioned Will Putney, I had paused the video and said, "That dude is literally fuckin' everywhere!" So it was funny after I unpaused the video that you immediately said something along the lines of that as well lol.
