2-Base Wire Weave: Modified Soumak, One of the Most Common & Useful Wire Weaving Patterns Around!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 чер 2024
- Modified Soumak is one of my favorite wire weaving patterns, and I particularly love it when worked as a 2-base wire weave. I use this particular wire weave frequently in my designs, and so do a lot of other tutorial makers. So, I made this practical and popular weave a top priority for a new video tutorial.
There are lots of Door 44 Studios make-alongs coming this year, and several of them will feature this weave. And by creating this video just ahead of those make-alongs, you'll be sure to have all the tools you'll need to successfully complete your make-along projects.
If you prefer a written tutorial, find it here: door44studios.com/modified-so...
Today, I'm going to show you how to work this pretty and functional wire weave pattern on just two base wires. Whether you're left-handed or right-handed, this video is for you because I demonstrate this weave both ways. It's a very common wire weaving pattern, and it's also a pattern that's easy to master. I'll have you weaving like a pro in no time. I promise!

I LOOOOOVE your tutorials! Thank you SOOOO much for sharing your ideas, teaching us vital techniques/ tricks, giving us so much inspiration, and your instructions are some of the best out there! Anyhow, is there any way you could do a tutorial for a wire wrapped ring with a faceted gemstone, please?
Mahalo & Aloha!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying my tutorials. And yes. As a matter of fact, I am working on some ring tutorial ideas right now. 😊
Thanks ❤️🇩🇰
My pleasure! 😊
I have been doing this for 3 months and am really struggling with technique. I look at stuff I did 2 months ago and it looked better, in some cases so I've developed bad habits.
One thing I notice is in the tutorials, wire is much straighter. I straighten mine with nylon pliers but they still have an arc. So, especially when they call for example,11 inch base wires, they have a big arc. And they start turning around as I'm going so the arcs are going in different directions.
I have a hard time seeing the copper when it's this long because of the glare.
I can't seem to do it without pulling my wire's together. So, as I get down a couple inches, I notice my weaving wire is no loner sitting on the base wires and instead is floating above it.
I'm sorry you're frustrated, Dawn. If I can see a sample of your work, I may be able to offer some suggestions to help you get back on track with your weaving technique. Feel free to email me for help. You can also join my Facebook group, Wire Weaving with Wendi, where you can ask questions and get help on my tutorials and general wirework techniques.
GREAT VIDEO! Thankyou! Question, many people FREAK out about the thought of wearing copper for either a skin allergy, or turning the skin green. Is there anything that can be sprayed on the backs of pendents that will take care of this problem that won't harm the piece of jewelry?
I've never found any sort of top coat for copper that looks good or that lasts. Some people do react to copper, so educating buyers is important. But I've found that most people who are really drawn to copper jewelry have no trouble wearing it. I wear copper jewelry almost exclusively and I work with it daily. And I've never have any issues with it. So, I've never sealed or lacquered my jewelry.
@@Door44Studios I would concur with you. Thank you 😊
Thank you this is very helpful. It would be better if I could see the ends of the sticks on the left; shorter sticks or scoot camera/ hands over to the right.
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it.
@@Door44Studios I really do appreciate your video and hope my comment was helpful.
@@debbiegaines1362 it is. Producing video is a huge undertaking with a steep learning curve. So I mean it sincerely when I say I appreciate feedback. 😊
Can you do a demo of this using 4 wires please?
Yes! I plan to do many more weaving demos, so I'll definitely add multi-wire Modified Soumak to that list.
Hi, I just watched a video on a bracelet I would like to make with this weave. For some reason I just can't get it with this bracelet it has 10 wires ( may be because I am not that experienced, but it seemed pretty easy). So I was wondering if maybe you would make this bracelet with your version of the weave maybe the same but I just understand you better. The video is by Jennifer Biedermann, open ribbon wire weave bracelet. Would you be willing to make this your way?
Thanks so much for your inquiry! Unfortunately, I cannot copy another artist's design. That would be unethical. I can create a tutorial that shows how to do this weave on three or more wires, though. Once you master the pattern on three wires, you can do it on any number of core wires. I'll see if I can make that video happen very soon.
Missed the first wrap with the message that popped up.
Thanks for the feedback! I can see how that message could be distracting. Video editing is a brand new skill that I'm learning on the fly. I'll be more careful about that on future videos. 😊
When doing this type of demo, don't push the wraps tight, leave separate and the pattern is easier to see. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep that in mind for future demos.
@@Door44Studios you are most welcome😊
