Known for his work with artists like Beck, Nine Inch Nails, and Paramore, Justin Meldal-Johnsen has provided basslines and top-notch production across a variety of genres. Whether on stage or in the studio, JMJ has relied his '67 Mustang Bass to deliver the versatile tones needed to fit any project. Now you can get a slice of this sound for yourself with the newly released Fender JMJ Road Worn Mustang Bass.
A replica of JMJ's original, this Mustang Bass features a tastefully road worn nitrocellulose finish on the body and neck for a comfortable feel, as well as a custom-spec split-coil pickup built for monstrous tone.
We recently chatted with JMJ about his new bass at Summer NAMM -- check out our exclusive video interview on the zZounds Blog:

I just saw BECK play in Concord. I've been a professional studio/touring musician for 46 years.
I nominate Justin as the BEST POP BASSIST in the WORLD!!!! I've seen him with NIN and BECK several times. I just wish to hell I had a bassist where I live as good as he is. KUDOS, JUSTIN!
Not bullshiting, this is one awesome bass.
I absolutely love the thought process of making an instrument that is so true to its vintage characteristics, well built, yet remains affordable. Great work, there, Justin, and kudos to Fender for actually making it happen.
the best mustang bass.
So great👍
I'm so glad I chose mustang bass
Love mine!
I would love to hear this bass being played, not just talked about .
Is the Corona version with the extra pick up a bargain at $200 extra or am i missing something?
Genuine question.
It's an interview, not a demo... plenty of demos out there
What Pick Ups are on those?
it has a custom Seymour Duncan split single-coil mustang bass pickup.
@@zZoundsMusic What Gauge Strings Does Judtin Play On HIs Mustang ? And Does It Ship, Set Up With That Same Gauge? Thank You!
@@tootory9506 just buy it. It plays great. Sounds great. Strings are very nice and smooth. This bass will be sharing time with my Rickenbacker 4003w.
@@tootory9506 Late response I know but they sell them with Fender flatwounds. Justin uses daddario chromes
@@McDoinky Thanks good to know I'll try chromes at some point. I bought this Bass in 2020 had to get four of them before I didn't get a lemon🤪 can you believe it? Extremely dry neck with frets overhanging - one had an electronics issue, they all sounded different, and all the necks/frets felt different.. oh and one I couldn't put any more relief into it The truss rod was Maxed out...
They all shipped from different music stores around the country.
All things considered I still love it but it took a village to get the right one. Thanks again
I'd love this bass if it weren't aged/fake worn.
I can't believe JMJ left out Danny Bonaduce as one of his idols!😂
Spends the whole video talking it up and then we don't even get to hear it?! :/
Maybe there's enough video on that alone? Don't end your research here
"interview"
10-minutes and he never plays it. LOL So it is in interview, I get that, but so what, play a few notes on the the f&^%$&* thing while talking. LOL
