  • In today's video, my friend TJ and I take to the streets of Louisville to see what kind of guitar deals are to be had in a few of my local pawn shops. Sometimes I'll go look even if I don't need anything. Never know what you might find.

    I'm one of the owners of the 2nd (good) pawnshop in the video, lol! I'm the guy holding the guitar supposedly signed by Johnny. You can barely see it and I doubt it's really his signature but you never know! I'd like to thank The Guitologist for coming by and filming in our store! We've had several calls and sold a couple guitars thanks to your great video! We're a family Pawn Shop verses some of these Corporate ones that treat you like you're at a fast food restaurant! You're welcome to come back anytime and film again! Thank you, Gary

      @@petercarlson811 , I like how ego free these dudes are. Like good luck trying to find something so normal on cable television, you have to be a weirdo, egomaniac and have a low IQ as a prerequisite for being on any reality television. I am ashamed of virtually most television programs and the self serving people they employ.

    I have purchased many pieces of great gear & guitars at pawn shops in the past. The guy at the first store was a prize. Talk about being overly paranoid and having a crappy attitude about the whole situation. He will now probably lose future customers at that store by going off on you as he did. Oh well... he gets what he deserves.

      It shouldn't surprise me that people in comments come up with stupid shit like this but it still does, year after year. And year after year I continue to be the definition of insanity, by explaining where people are in error and expecting that this time it will result in a person learning something rather than them doubling down and talking shit as they do almost every other time It's not theft if they give it to him. Which he wisely did not . He asked, he was denied. He never got any ID or identity to steal. Not to mention identification and identity are hardly the same thing. I know, they both start with an i so they must mean the same thing right ? And an identification card has information about a person so it must be their fucking identity right ? Face, meet Palm. Not identity theft unless he uses the information on the identification card to assume that person's identity in a way that would leave him liable for something criminal or monetary.

      The thing about pawn shops is they often will get a good enough deal on stuff and if it lingers around, they will get the itch to just unload it at a modest profit, then you're good. Who wants to deal with ebay or Reverb returns or fees or boxing shit up and driving to and from the Fed Ex store?

    Guns and Guitars - two of my favorite things. :) When I was in my 30s and had a stable job, I used to haunt the small ma-and-pop guitar and pawn shops (around Chicago suburbs) and picked up a lot of odd duck guitars, FX, and a few amps. I wish I kept most of them because I bet they'd be worth some coin now, but I'd clean them up and flip them for very little profit. I was mostly in it for the learning process of how they worked, how they were designed, different sounds and feel I'd never known before. I feel like I have this huge catalog of guitar sounds and textures in my head from it...much more than you could get just from plugging in at the shop. This video makes me want to do this again now that I'm in the Denver area...but the internet has most of these shops think that everything is made of gold. :P

He’s entitled to decline to give his permission, but you know what, I seriously wouldn’t buy anything from a store where the owner is that suspicious and paranoid. It implies he’s worried about the stock appearing online. I’d immediately assume it was stolen, even if it isn’t.

    • @djdale262
      @djdale262 5 років тому

      You assume he's shady because he doesn't want you to film, that his stuff might end up online (like a drop-shipper marking up someone else's stock as their own perhaps?), but you never consider he might think 2 scruffy looking guys filming in his store in a high crime area might be shady? Interesting! No one ever considers the other guy's perspective today. It's all about me.

    Can I just chime in on the shots being taken at the first store owner...sure, he sounds paranoid as all hell...and didnt handle it well...but....Ive workd in a second hand/pawn shop selling music gear. We once had some teens come in supposedly filming a youtube show on pawn shop deals. Not specific to instruments, just anything....
    They were interested in certain items like power tools, bikes and some music gear and seemed legit......
    But....a couple of weeks later, the store was ripped off. Most of the items those kids showed interest in had been gathered and stolen.....just coincidence? No.
    They were later caught red handed with the gear. The same guys who had been 'filming' were actually casing the shop out for their raid.
    You can't assume anyrhing. The owner might have had a similar experience. Just saying.
