I lived in Guam when I was 5-9 years old when my Dad was stationed in Andersen AFB. Some of my best memories as a child. I came to visit in 2009 and 2010 with my wife and she loved it. Guam is not a sh*t hole. And the food... wow.

I joined the US Navy in 1988, first duty station was USS Proteus at Polaris Point, Guam. I loved the island. I’ve been all over the island. Used to catch Coconut crabs with some Guamanian guys who I was stationed with. Great bunch of people. Would love to visit there again….

Stationed on Guam 1969-1971. Best place in the world, wish I could go back! When I was there the only hamburger joint was a White Castle. They were just building the 1st high rise hotel down by the beach. The 3 hour ride around the island was spectacular! While there I owned a Yamaha dirt bike And a Honda S 600 sports car. For a 18 year old kid I was on top of the world and didn't know it. Was homesick the whole time, and counting the days to leave. Now I wish I could go back.

I served 2 years 2 months and 2 days At Naval Air Station Agana. It most definitely was not a shit hole. I loved the weather, and culture of the Chamorro people. It was a magical time in early twenties. The history was great. I scuba dived, cliff dived, even dove of the bridge at the Peti power station channel. The food was incredible at the farmers market near the baseball field in Tumon Bay. Had friends that lived in Barrigada Heights. Always want to go back but cant afford the money to do so. The island was beautiful from Tarague Beach to Talofofo Falls! Thanks for the video.

Thank you for this --- I've been thinking about Guam as an option for the future. My kids have grown up in Japan and the Middle East (born in the US -- I'm a US citizen, wife is Japanese, and kids were born in the US). I want to live somewhere sunny, warm, and within a reasonable flight distance from Tokyo (my kids, who are in college right now, seem to want to live in Japan; but, for me, I love Japan, but after I retire, I would prefer to "visit" Japan rather than deal with the bureaucracy of living here in retirement). Your video was very helpful -- thank you.

It’s so annoying. It seems to me about half the expats living in the Philippines are just bitter. Other than managing to work enough years to receive social security and/or a monthly pension, they essentially failed at life in general and want to blame everything on something outside themself. That’s why anyone in the forums asking, “how do I ______?” are met with about 90% saying, “you can’t, it’s impossible!” “Give up now!” “Don’t come here!” Etc. Out of 100 comments, literally only one or two will actually address the question.

If you get inside the two military bases, you'll be surprised how clean they are. Every now and then, military with dependent volunteer cleaning around the island, but like you said in one week it's trash again. Just so sad and embarrassing.

No video of dilapidated roads, parks, sidewalks, polluted beaches or daily advisory of sewage polluted beaches in news. Ordot dump is one of several superfund sites, regular GPA outages and GWA outages (Boil water notices). Talafofo, one of the nicest villages, is also home of the landfill. Take your camera into villages and show the junk cars, trash, and general dilapidation of spots in Dededo, Baza Gardens, and Sinajana. Y' all are one major typhoon away from lengthy power/water outages as happened in all typhoons going back to Karen. High cost of living, odd zoning with strip bars/"buy me drink bars" situated in tourist area of Tumon near shopping/hotels/restaurants. So far what's not to love and we ain't even discussed recycled politicians, pederast priests, massive military footprint, massage parlors, second rate schools/university, over-fished territorial waters, or affect immigration from close islands, like Chuuk, has on Guam. But yeah, in your little bubble Guam ain't a dump. Rota is far better than Guam because it's more isolated from people/tourism/military.
