@Living in the Pacific Are you referring to that VA office next to the Harley Davidson? Isn't that just a VA office? Don't Veterans get they're medical for their service connected conditions at the Navy Hospital?///////// Turns out the clinic is just inside the base that the hospital is in. I googled it.
The NavHosp does not treat VA patients.... they must use the VA Choice program and use civilian doctors and hospitals. NavHosp only treats retirees (on a space available basis). That place next to the (old) Harley Davidson place is for the military and VA cemetary.
@@tropicshade If you are on medicare, Tricare for life comes into play. Can you use the NAV Hospital or need to use a civ doctor. We are thinking of moving to Guam to be closer to the Philippines. Thanks for a great video
Guam is not a s*ht hole. I worked and vacationed in Guam. Beautiful island...beautiful people. Jealous expats living in the Philippines wish they were financially able to have multiple homes in two or three different countries. Ignore them my friend. Expats living payday to payday on a limited budget hates on people like you sir. Allen, Northern Samar is a beautiful place with mostly good people. Mayor Suan is a good man.
I lived on Saipan, hung out on Guam all the time. Worked on those ships out in Aprah Harbor. Was in Saipan 1994-99 and shipboard on Guam and Saipan in 88-90. Guam is far from a shthole. Actually it's like living in a resort. Saipan too. The Philippines is rough around the edges.
@@tropicshade I miss the hell out of Saipan. What a place. Stay at the Pacific Islands club. Visit suicide cliff, the Grotto, Japanese jail. Beautiful place. Great memories.

Anyone with base privileges definitely has a COL advantage on Guam. Housing is then the only real expense, but from what I'm seeing, it's cheaper than California!
I was in Guam almost 40 years ago while in the Navy, it wasn't a sh!×=ole then and I really can't believe that it is now, but honestly if I had to choose between Guam and the Philippines I'd take Guam, I know some people would choose the PI but everyone will have their own opinion!
Thank you for this --- I've been thinking about Guam as an option for the future. My kids have grown up in Japan and the Middle East (born in the US -- I'm a US citizen, wife is Japanese, and kids were born in the US). I want to live somewhere sunny, warm, and within a reasonable flight distance from Tokyo (my kids, who are in college right now, seem to want to live in Japan; but, for me, I love Japan, but after I retire, I would prefer to "visit" Japan rather than deal with the bureaucracy of living here in retirement). Your video was very helpful -- thank you.
It’s so annoying. It seems to me about half the expats living in the Philippines are just bitter. Other than managing to work enough years to receive social security and/or a monthly pension, they essentially failed at life in general and want to blame everything on something outside themself. That’s why anyone in the forums asking, “how do I ______?” are met with about 90% saying, “you can’t, it’s impossible!” “Give up now!” “Don’t come here!” Etc. Out of 100 comments, literally only one or two will actually address the question.
I think you're right... I treat most of those fb groups as entertainment and some of the advice being passed around is by the uninformed (bogus). The best real forum IMO is still the Yahoo LIP group... a good solid source of information. It is a closed member group and you can check it out here... groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/LivingInThePhilippines3/info;_ylc=X3oDMTJlNWNqOHIzBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzk3NjYyNDMEZ3Jwc3BJZAMxNzA1MTcxNTM2BHNlYwN2dGwEc2xrA3ZnaHAEc3RpbWUDMTU5NjQzNTMxMA--

There aren't many areas in the world that do not have a trash problem. At least on Guam, it's mostly in the densly populated northern sections. Beaches are clean!
@@tropicshade nope. Any beaches on guam has tons of trash. At least now there aren't that much because of covid. The environment is getting back thanks to a virus.
I don't see "tons" of trash and we spend a lot of time at the beaches. We also pick up trash when we can. Are the beaches perfect, no... because knuckleheads live everywhere. All that trash you see on the eastern side of the island comes from the open ocean. Maybe you should visit the beaches in other SE Asian areas and you will soon have a new perspective. Now, I will have to do a "beach" video. Thanks for commenting!
A lot of people just don't have values, pride and respect for the island. I also saw a lot of abandon vehicles and white goods along the roads. However not the entire Island is trashy. If you get inside the two military bases, you'll be surprised how clean they are. Every now and then, military with dependent volunteer cleaning around the island, but like you said in one week it's trash again. Just so sad and embarrassing.
Damn, how could I forget the rat snake infestation that's massacred the koko bird or the rhino beetle tearing up the flora. Tangan tangan seeds dropped to hide all the bombing during WW2, but it's a smothering parasite... yeah, Guam is the bomb literally including Guam bombs, lol.
@@tropicshade I know exactly what it is and I've caught the salmonella coated reptile a few times. So your basic selling points for Guam is lots of tree snakes and high cost of living not including all the other problems I listed, lmao.
Guam is important to the US to a military point of view. The Air Force & Navy keep China & North Korea in check. Like an outpost in middle of nowhere!!👍👍🇺🇸💓
The 'soul' of Guam is beginning to return little by little... Every day looks a little brighter. It won't be back to normal though until all the tourists return.
No video of dilapidated roads, parks, sidewalks, polluted beaches or daily advisory of sewage polluted beaches in news. Ordot dump is one of several superfund sites, regular GPA outages and GWA outages (Boil water notices). Talafofo, one of the nicest villages, is also home of the landfill. Take your camera into villages and show the junk cars, trash, and general dilapidation of spots in Dededo, Baza Gardens, and Sinajana. Y' all are one major typhoon away from lengthy power/water outages as happened in all typhoons going back to Karen. High cost of living, odd zoning with strip bars/"buy me drink bars" situated in tourist area of Tumon near shopping/hotels/restaurants. So far what's not to love and we ain't even discussed recycled politicians, pederast priests, massive military footprint, massage parlors, second rate schools/university, over-fished territorial waters, or affect immigration from close islands, like Chuuk, has on Guam. But yeah, in your little bubble Guam ain't a dump. Rota is far better than Guam because it's more isolated from people/tourism/military.
Guam is not perfect and it does have it's issues like everywhere in this world, but it's far from being a shithole....People who call Guam a shithole probably have never been to other parts of the World.
I see so many people commenting in expat videos about how terrible the place is and everyone needs to go back to the US. I always wonder why they're watching expat videos at all. Guam looks like a very nice place to me I'm sure it's too expensive for a poor soon to be retired guy like me. Just wondering, do non-VA hospitals there accept Medicare?
The lockdowns in the Philippines are strict, and even tougher if you are a Senior Citizen... where in some places you cannot even leave your property! Guam is a little cheaper than Hawaii and yes, Medicare is accepted here. I'm starting to see people sharing condos here... making it more affordable I'm sure. I suspect rents will be adjusted downward soon (just a hunch).
I loved the military affiliation there. I had shopping privileges on base there having worked a DOD contract. I would go into NS Guam occasionally to pick up things for our ship. Sometimes Anderson. The watering holes there were excellent. Your video makes me homesick. Is been 21 years. The crazy parties there. Night clubs...

@@tropicshade the one next to the old Harley is the VA office. The Veteran’s cemetery is a couple miles further south.
@@tropicshade If you are on medicare, Tricare for life comes into play. Can you use the NAV Hospital or need to use a civ doctor. We are thinking of moving to Guam to be closer to the Philippines. We were scheduled to go to Catbalgan last March but COVID shut down our trip. We usually stay for 6 months but the hospitals in the province are not good. Also, what's the cost of living like.
That guy probably was unhappy with Himself.
He could be jealous because he doesn't live here! lol
Adorable cat!
Thanks.
I'm planning to visit Saipan soon... when Covid fades away.
@@tropicshade I miss the hell out of Saipan. What a place. Stay at the Pacific Islands club. Visit suicide cliff, the Grotto, Japanese jail. Beautiful place. Great memories.
I've been to Guam twice and I love it wish I could live there and I'm from California
I left Guam once for California. Two years there was enough and I returned to Guam. 😉
Great video 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thank you 🙌
Im grateful for having experienced the times there
I was stationed here twice '74-76 and '78-80. Retired to the Philippines but kept coming back to Guam. Finally, we just moved here. Done. 😉 Check out the Guam group on MeWe... mewe.com/join/guamusa1
Was that Linda’s cafe?
Yes, the old Linda's... since been closed, remodeled and opened under new ownership.
I miss Guam ..Cant wait to get back
Hurry, before it tips over! 😂
I am thinking of retiring to Guam. I am a vet with base privileges and should have a lower cost of living
Both places have changed, for the better, but Guam is better than ever IMO.
Very expensive now and high crime..
Roads in disrepair.
I can't imagine living in the city during a lockdown. I would go insane.
I think many are well on their way.
keep safe po... buenos noches hafa adai!
👌
The shit hole term apply to places like Bulacan where Curfew Violators get abused or people get killed for violating quarantine restrictions ...
I agree.
Well said Sir.
👍
I'll be back, you can take the boy outta the island but you can't take the island outta the boy.
So true! I first came here when I was 19. Got hooked early. Hurry back!
Glad I could help. Many Japanese here also.
it was a beautiful island 55yrs ago when lived 4. 2yrs usn. The hotels killed. That image. It is hot. And sticky. With no where to go.
It's the tropics, of course it is hot and humid. We came here to retire, not to go anywhere except the Philippines.
idiots on facebook no nothing, I visited Gaum in 2001 and loved every minute. Hope to return one day!
Some people would complain of having too much money.
It is a closed member group and you can check it out here... groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/LivingInThePhilippines3/info;_ylc=X3oDMTJlNWNqOHIzBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzk3NjYyNDMEZ3Jwc3BJZAMxNzA1MTcxNTM2BHNlYwN2dGwEc2xrA3ZnaHAEc3RpbWUDMTU5NjQzNTMxMA--
NOTICE>>> the group I mention above is being shut down by YAHOO as they announced they will be turning off their "groups" function Dec 1st. YAHOO Groups is NO MORE!
i like your cat!

Hello beautiful 😍
Hope you’re doing good today??
Hey there:) from all the way here in OHIO:).....thanks for this video:) it means alot....im born and raised from Guam and ive been out here since summer of 2019....theres no place like home:) 671GU all the way:)
This was the summer me and my wife were going back to the Philippines, but that got changed, the you tuber Lanhawk 59 has been here in the States since Jan.2020, and don't know when he can go back to the Philippines. James
I think many travelers are stranded... in both directions. Come to think of it, I wasn't aware Lhawk59 was still back in Chicago. I thought he was married and a permanent resident?
@@tropicshade he came back for his daughter have her baby, his grandbaby, he hasn't married her yet, her annulment is final, then right before he was going to marry her, he other daughter died in the states, and haven't married her yet. I know Bill personally and have ate at his Pizza shop, we are from the same city, Bacolod City,Philippines. James
Thanks for the clarification. Stay safe!
personally the 13A visa is the only way to go. you can enter the philippines as a citizen. no more every few months running to immigration. still have quarantine to deal with of course
Yeah what a comparison Bulacan to Guam that guy that said that is a Doofus lmao
Probably so.
Was stationed there 88to90 loved it
Me too... '74-76 then again '78-80. Caught the Guam plague and the only cure is to live here! 😁 🌴 😎
I LIVE RETIRED IN SIBULAN, ON NOGROS ISLAND. IM SINGLE, IM ON SSI....I DRAW 1800 MO. COULD I GEY BY, ON 1800 /MO. ON GUAM?
I doubt it... unless you wanted to go back to work. 😕
I want to live there
One call to United Air Lines is all it takes... and some income! lol
Guam is nice but its really dirty. Trash everywhere. Its like we have a community come together to clean, then in 1 week its trashed again.
Good video
Thanks for the visit
Someone said you need a passport to go there I thought because it was a US territory that you didn't need a passport
@@tropicshade bud when I come home becoming on a sailboat
@@duded2268 Let me know if you need an extra line handler! 😎
Actually, the snake you are referring to is the Brown Tree Snake. If you can afford to live here, Guam is good!
It looks nice in Guam , but just a bit ' Soul Less '. It's important to have daily challenges .Just to keep sane .
I'm guessing Guam is your first tropical island rodeo.
@@tropicshade Not all islands are shitholes like Guam. I've lived enough places I know there's no paradise.
@Deathevokation....Guam does have it's issues, but trust me their are other parts of the World that have it much worst.
Guam is not perfect and it does have it's issues like everywhere in this world, but it's far from being a shithole....People who call Guam a shithole probably have never been to other parts of the World.
Agree!
Guam and P.I both have similarities.
The Politicians are corrupt as F!
Both are beautiful place though only problem is the politician
You got that right but in the PI, it reaches street level.
another good vid. Thats is a pretty nice "shithole" lol
One man's shithole is another man's paradise! lol
You still stuck in Canada?
Guam is a beautiful island.
Most certainly is!
Gloria Estefan once said it's a slum.
What does she know?
@@tropicshade congas, and something about a rythm getting you...
Just a cool place to live.
