Hardware List:
1. 4x 30mm Screw Pins
2. 2x 4.8mm Ball Studs, 6mm stud
3. 2x 4.8mm Ball Studs, 8-10mm stud
4. 6x M3 washers, no more than 0.5mm thick
5. 2x M3 Nut (not nylon locking nut)
6. 4x 4.8mm Ball Cups
7. M3 threaded rod for upper link (length needed is less 50mm, two 20 mm screws can be cut down for this too. Actual length is not known. Dependent on ball cups length)
8. 2x M3x18mm screws
9. 2x M3 nuts
10. 4x 4mm x 6mm brass tubes
11. 2x 3mm x 12mm screws
12. 2x M3 self tapping screws, 8mm long
Other Componets
1. 60mm eye to eye shock, standard bore
Special Tools Needed:
1. 3mm-3.1mm drill bit. Do not use a 1/8" bit
Note: In some cases, original Hornet tie rods are slightly too short and need either updated turn buckles installed. This is not an issue with Re-release hornets as those tie rods are much longer.

Just installed this product onto my hornet and let me tell you it is great!! The front end is now better then the back end. I mounted the steering linkage like how you mounted it on your cyclone. I had to cut out the body, but its worth it. Everything went together perfectly. Great job and Great product. Thx
Glad you like it Steve. Just remember that the nylon does not have the flex the stock ABS does. It will break on a hard impact that would not have broken the ABS. That said, I have been racing with mine for 3 years! I hope you like it!
Wow that front suspension works so much better! Its funny, the front looks almost completely dead while the rear is still bouncing all over the place Hornet style:) And it looks really cool too! Definitely getting this mod.

I LOVE these kits! I'm hoping to have a Buggy to do my own "research" soon... I am NOT worried about cutting the body! Definitely prefer better steering geometry over asthetics. The slow mo footage really shows how the front suspension is now far superior to the rear - and tons better than the original!
I know, I love how the front absorbs the landing while the rear is just...all over...

Unrelated to your mods: It was interesting to see the rear suspension actually working. When I had a Hornet as a kid, I was convinced the rear end wasn't doing anything.
Tell me about it. I felt the same way though mine probably didn;t work. My Hornet was used when I got it and someone installed frog rear shocks with no ball pivots on the bottom and then added rock hard springs. Yeah, mine did nothing.
Anyways, great videos and a great way to promote your upgrades. When I get my Lunchbox I'll be sure to purchases the parts for the front suspension and the rear center axle link!

Yeah I am going to have to put one together. Hope you like the front end! Remember stock motors only with this setup and no hard bashing. I always worry someone will not have heard me, haha!
I can definitely see where the 20mm offset would be best. Just that slight increase in length, permits much better shocks, with superior damping. You COULD get a 50mm shock set that performs well.... if you spend at least $50.00! Not on a car like this.
I can't WAIT to see how the rear independent suspension drives! I'm sure you can't either!

I know it would be pricey on Shapeways, but have you ever tried the metal option that Shapeways offers? I thought I remembered there being an option for the Lunchbox version of this a while back. That all said, this is an awesome upgrade for my daughters Grasshoppers. I probably shouldn't have put this mod on as she is a young driver and things will get rough out there when she drives them.... but I just couldn't resist. With Lunchbox tires on her Grasshoppers this upgrade does make quite a difference when driving them. Thanks for creating this!
Yeah I have. It is great but nowhere worth the cost. Plus, I have never broken a sls one on my race car so I think it has worked out well. There is new option for the plastic that is supposed to be amazing. I have that printed for my CW01 front end. Any time!

Hopefully you see this! When I go to the site I’m seeing 2 options with a $10 difference for the 20mm off set option. Which one is the one I should choose?

In the description on shape ways it says that this is not as strong as the injection molded version. How do I get that?
I meant the original parts being the injection molded versions. Only the nylon is available at the moment though some parts may go to MyMiniFactory. Stock motors are all this is recommended.
I don’t remember hornets looking as quick as the one you drive at the end of this video. Is that all stock motor and stuff? I would like to emulate that. (Yes I’m watching your hornet/hopper stuff now because I really am going to get one haha)
That hornet as a tamiya hop up stock motor. It is a super rare motor now but they still make good stock upgrades. I think a mod. motor is way too fast for these.
Will the hornet set for the suspension work on the grasshopper and the grasshopper 2?
This will work on the grasshopper but you will need to make a modification to the body as the upper mount is what the grasshopper body uses for mounting. As for the grasshopper too, I make a version specifically for that and the super hornet that you can find here on my channel as well

I have a grasshopper 2 where the front suspension toes in ward and pulls the tires back

What, if any, advantages does the 20mm offset vs. the 10 or the zero?
Great question. The 20mm allows you the cheapest option for shocks. This allows you to use a 60mm shock, usually a "take off" from a Tamiya touring car. New 60mm shocks are very cheap. The zero offset allows you nothing but the stock pogo sticks or maybe a vintage You-G unit which I do not recommend for driving as those You-G shocks are terrible and very expensive. The 10mm offset is usually paired with the cantilever front suspension option which offers the best performance but at a much increased cost. The 20mm is by far my most used front end, 8 of my Hornets having it. Let me know if that clears it up.
What does "ug" mean when referring to the shocks?
"You-G" was an old brand from the 1980's and 1990's. Very rare, very costly and really not good given the materials used then and their age now.
What is the ground clearance for this? Is it lower than stock?
It is higher than stock. Around 20mm?

Like the Hornet tub or a chassis in general? You absolutely could do this be depending on the design they could required modification. I am working on a SRB chassis right now but It will have a complete cage.
I mean a whole tub for a Hornet but I suppose any 1/10 scale. Not too big, huh? Interesting.
Well, It might be. Depends on the print beds at shapeways. Plus, it will probably be in the $150 range. A simpler version would be much less I suspect.
Probably cheaper to use readyly available middle piece an mount molded front and back, as in a TA-02 tub
is there a set of 60mm shocks you can recommend, or will any set do?
Great question. I used the ones that I had laying around from when I bought better aluminum ones for my FF01 and TA02. I would say that any 60mm shock would work as long as they have some soft options for the springs. What you don't want are rock hard springs like 50mm shocks usually come with. I hope that helps. If not let me know if you have issues finding some.
I ended up buying some Yeah Racing shocks that come w/ 3 different springs, and some different discs for the internals.

Hello! I like your work. Looking to add these to my cars soon. I am unable to find the top mount that does not require modification to the body, the only one listed that I can see is this one: www.shapeways.com/product/XD3SL9ZEW/ampro-upper-control-pivot-for-hornet-front-end?optionId=17123555 . I must be missing something?
Hello Alagarr, sorry for the confusion. The suspension comes with both versions attached to the sprue. The reason for this was cost. It was hardly any difference in price to add both on one sprue. I hope this helps! Thank you for messaging me and let me know if you have any other questions.
