When stationed in Switzerland, Jung became entranced by the mandala as he sketched one each day for self-healing. The game echoes this repeated, circular arrangement -- which compensated for Jung's then disorderly psyche --, with its circling motif. By recurrently tracing a "mandala" onscreen you get to help them find wholeness, if you will. Merry Christmas.

I really love this game. It's Sonic Team's magum opus, imo. Just the amount of work and research put into its symbolism, music, imagery, direction... it's an incredible master piece. The story and experience is short, but very well made and striking.... it's probably one of the most layered games ever, and I imagine just the basic info given by Izuka on Jung is simply scratching its surface, considering that supposedly every character in the game is based off a Jungian archetype, and each level are built off his books and research on dreams.
Plus... Christmas NiGHTS is the icing on the cake 😊 One of the most joyful games ever made.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!🌠

Nights feels like an extremely bizarre alternative Sonic game. Guess that was probably the idea of the Sonic Team.
You don't run, you fly. You don't collect rings, you fly through them.
It's fast and colorful, with an amazing uplifting soundtrack... add to the mix the out of this world art design, stunning visuals and sound and a very emotional story to make one of the best games ever, a total blast IMHO and probably my favorite game of the 32/64 bit generation.
And that says a lot to me, bearing in mind all the amazing games from Ps1 and N64, I don't think there's anything like Nights on those systems.
Anyways, this game to me is more "Sonic Team" than any Sonic game, as ridiculous as it sounds.
    Great video. :)

I agree! I used to have all of the consoles and I always, always went back to my Saturn to play Nights and held it above Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot back then and even moreso now. Although my motivation to own a Saturn now was more to enjoy titles like Willy Wombat and Tryrush Deppy, the very first game I bought was Nights and Christmas Nights.

Wow a video that echoes my thoughts and sentimental value for Nights and what it truly means to me comes out just as it is all hitting me again, and all this after just playing it again after a few years on a whim. I wish more people would look below the surface of games to see what value they really hold, Nights is a prime example of that, it has so much more below the surface level of being a cute colorful kids game. I'm glad I am not the only one who gets emotional at the Twin Seeds level, when I got there after playing it on a whim a few days ago I found myself with tears streaming down my face, it is a bit embarrassing.

Something worth noting-- part of the reason that the game's remakes never felt as smooth as with the 3D pad is actually a bug/oversight of sorts with the HD remakes. In the original Saturn version (and PS2 version iirc) the game used full-on analogue control for the game (as you'd expect), but the HD ports for some reason had the game stuck in 8 directions of movement. This was later patched in each version, but only by increasing the directions to 24.
There's actually a mod for the PC version that re-implements full analogue control to the game, and as one may expect, it controls way better than normal. Obviously it's not 1-to-1, there's still some slight differences to the Saturn version when it comes to stuff like acceleration, but it's better than the base release.
(I'm pretty sure Journey of Dreams on Wii had that issue to an extent as well, not helped by all the available control options-- Nunchuk, GCN Controller, and Classic Controller-- all having the Octagonal rim to the stick).

    • @Mitsuraga
      @Mitsuraga 2 роки тому

It's funny; until recently, she really didn't show all that much interest in gaming. She'd occasionally mess around on my Virtua Fighter 4 machine, and she'd happily watch me play Sonic or whatever, but any attempts to get her to play would inevitably result in her very quickly giving up. At best, I could get her to focus on either moving with the D-pad or taking action like jumping with the face buttons - never both at once. Because of this selective focus, I had a little bit of success having her play Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, but that only lasted about three days before she seemed to completely lose interest in learning or trying again.
All of that changed when - after a decade-plus of coveting the system - I finally bought a SEGA Saturn and started feverishly collecting for it. She adores Segata Sanshiro, his commercials and song, and enjoys playing Virtua Cop, The House of the Dead, and Burning Rangers (though for that last one, I pull the old trick of letting her think she's playing with the Player 2 controller). We played Sonic R, and she had a ton of fun just running around in the Sonic World hub of Sonic Jam.
Heck, she played Daytona USA well before she even saw Mario Kart.
It still doesn't take her that long to give up, but now she'll give even Panzer Dragoon a fair shot, and she's much more excited to play games than she ever had been, before. She's been looking forward to playing Saturn Bomberman and NiGHTS, just based on the main characters' respective designs alone.
It's making me quite the proud papa. For context, she'll be four in about two months.
